Provide roses/flowers for those who'd like to give one to anyone they meet or see that night, and say it's in exchange for a kiss on the cheek or a hug. Then, people can go with that fun expectation for nothing more than a kiss on the cheek, and if they choose to, go for more. I do not think banning FMOTQ will solve our issues of sexual assault-- it is not a bandaid solution. However, I do think instituting programming targeted toward sexual violence prevention, similar to RA training events, during NSO would help introduce incoming students to the issue. More importantly, it would cause a gradual shift in culture and change the way we approach issues of sexual violence as an institution. I also think the University needs to provide more spaces to discuss these issues and put on various programming events throughout the year that would facilitate conversation among students, giving survivors of sexual assault, harassment and abuse an opportunity to share their story and that would give others a chance to engage with the issue.None.DisagreeAmbivalentAmbivalentDisagreeDisagreeDisagreeAgree

The idea behind the tradition, to welcome new students to Stanford and welcome returning students back, is great. The food is awesome, the music is fun. But the premise that this event is based on making out with strangers means that a lot of people won't want to participate and will feel uncomfortable going, even if they don't plan to kiss anyone. Students should have the choice to attend; if someone is uncomfortable attending, then that person doesn't have to participate.AmbivalentDisagreeAmbivalentDisagreeDisagreeDisagreeAmbivalent

3/7/2016 21:38:57Class of 2017I like FMOTQ as it isI think FMOTQ does a good job of emphasizing that consent is important; you can go, but don't have to kiss if you don't want to. (Obviously people abuse the event and act inappropriately -- but the same could be said of literally any social event on any college campus at any time.) Also, there is food beforehand, and watching LSJUMB is fun, so it's a good social event even if you want to leave before kissing starts at midnight. I think as long as there are still people there handing out mouthwash and telling people not to participate if they're sick and emphasizing that bodily autonomy, as always, is incredibly important, the event should stay and be weird and fun.DisagreeDisagreeDisagreeDisagreeDisagreeAmbivalentAmbivalent
