I would like to see a place where our houseless neighbors could use the restroom and be safe from the elements. I have seen several people using the restroom in public and I think this causes a health concern, but also a human rights concern about how we treat our neighbors. Policy & Programs
3
I would like to see more co-ops or alternative businesses. I’d also, like to see more trash cans up on Howard/marshfield/Juneway. Policy & Programs/Parks & Environment

I recently moved here after living in lakeview for over 40 years. I would hate for the properties that will be sold over the next few years to be torn down and multi-unit properties and mcmansions added. A comprehensive zoning assessment needs to be done (if it hasn't already) and a plan made to ensure that Rogers Park keeps the zoning to keep the feel of the area. The numerous trees and large lots along with the diversity make this a wonderful spot. More density is not needed with more multi-unit "luxury" condos.Policy & Programs

While I know that this can't all be addressed through the PB process, defunding the police and reallocating that funding to front end service delivery that addresses economic inequality, racial inequality, and mental health and civil legal services.

Continued increase in investment in our Rogers Park area schools as well, as my husband and I start to consider where to raise a family we would love to stay in Rogers Park and send our kids to their neighborhood school.

On a more frivolous note, a dog park would be a lovely addition to the neighborhood for the many four legged friends that frequent our lakefront.

I know this is more than one, I apologize but I love the question and more open ended process. :)

I'd love to see more small local businesses. It has definitely gotten better in the last few years, but I think there is so much potential for small businesses in Rogers Park.Policy & Programs

Help to fund an emergency mobile team of mental health/ social service workers who will work out of the 24th precinct WITH the police department. Police have not been trained to address homelessness, psychiatric decompensation, domestic violence, etc. Trying to implement "deescalation" techniques in their training isn't sufficient. Funding from the neighborhood grant and, perhaps, reallocation of some funds from the police budget could support this pilot program. Policy & Programs
16
Provide more infrastructure and opportunities for the young people. Remove the liquor stores from our community. The young youths on the streets selling drugs to our people is a giant problem they're in your space and face daily no regards to the destruction of our community. Howards St is slowly becoming skid row in LA. Underneath the Red line train station is in a deplorable condition the sidewalk
Is extremely dirty it need to be power wash it smells horrible. The park is filled with junkies and crack head. I am disappointed with the condition of the neighborhood.

Safer after dark without negative impacts to peaceful residents living their lives! Maybe this means more support to the people experiencing homelessness/mental health/addiction issues in our community or leveraging the RP-CRT to provide some kind of additional support to the communityPolicy & Programs
23
I think we should have more community engagement events! In the wake of COVID-19 that might be a little difficult but I feel like having more block parties, events for children, food drives, bike-a-thons, building community gardens or painting murals etc would help bring people in the community together! The rise in gun violence, particularly in the wake of the pandemic, has made me feel much less safe in my neighborhood. I live just a block away from where a man was fatally shot in the abdomen at the Morse red line station. I don't think we need more police presence, but investing in organizations that address the roots of violence and provide opportunities to foster community relations and offer a viable alternative feels like a good first step to addressing these issues on a community level. While I am less affected by the violence on a daily basis, it does pertain to my safety and the safety of everyone in the neighborhood.Policy & Programs

Need more stop signs or more lights on Devon especially the stretch from leavitt to Kedzie. A lot of the older generation feel so comfortable because of how close to home it feels that they tend to disregard oncoming cars & bikes and walk across the street without looking both ways. They also don’t cross at lights or stop signs and cross when leaving stores so it creates traffic that’s backed till about 8ish.

Also need more free monthly programming for the neighborhood youth

More food drives/ clothe drives/ job fairs with places that pay well & hire on spot for youth & community residents new to the country looking to work

build a safe house and bring Englewood Barbie to run it similar to how she does hers in her neighborhood

I would change the fact that there is really no tax-revenue-supported Cultural Center in East Rogers Park to indeed help cultivate local talent, create opportunities for personal and artistic learning and expression, facilitate community and support network building. I see so many blue lights all around making sure every broken brake light is questioned about, but I don't see how that helps our community, so maybe some funds can be redirected to stage lights instead. I am concerned about the former Heartland site, what it means when a developer can use our community solely to make a profit, then leave their construction site an empty desolate lot for more than a year and a half. I'm not sure what one thing I would change, but I feel the community could make better use of that space.Policy & Programs

I wish that Rogers Park and the 49th Ward could reduce its police presence and be a home for community supports outside of policing. I haven't even been in Rogers Park that long, having moved here only seven years ago, but over time have seen both rapid gentrification and the increases of policing and surveillance that often follow. I do not think that the "community policing" model has increased safety or supports, since it still funnels resources to policing rather than to community solutions that get at the root causes, like physical and mental health care, affordable food and housing, employment opportunities, youth programs, and family supports.

Add'l note re: volunteering - ideally I would like to but due to capacity, cannot commit at the moment.

There are many good answers to this question but what I notice most often is a need for more trash cans and benches in public spaces outside of the beach parks. The Lunt exit of the red line needs a trash can, and the folks who congregate in the bike area need access to services. Especially with Covid now, we need places to be outside safely without having to be a customer at a business.
Have we tried a gun buy back in the neighborhood?
Will care for reals pantry be extended into the fall, and ongoing, or does it have an end date? It meets a real need and I’d love to see it expanded (add weekend access? Would make it easier for me to volunteer!), and would like to see coordination between them, food not bombs, and other organizations and institutions in the neighborhood—like library and parks—to make food and supplies ubiquitous!

Of course, I want to see adequate fair housing, community services, etc in our community. But above all, I'd love more "trendy" restaurants. I'd figure out how to mandate that EVERYONE over toddlerhood must wear a mask that completely covers their mouth & nose at all times whenever they step out the door of their individual apartment, condo unit, or single-family house for any reason, wherever they go, & until they return home, & face serious & escalating consequences for failure to do so (like, I don't know, arming all our meter maids & school crossing guards & so on with citation/ticket books & means to document violations via photo).Policy & Programs

Actual plan to decrease gun violence in our community. We need programs for the homeless than wander the streets of Morse and the consistent drive by shooting having in almost broad daylight/peak times. Appreciate the prompt response with events as they occur but what about the aftermath? What are our next steps to denounce this behavior. What are we doing to promote community safety and engagement. This means a relationship with our CPD and I don't see their presence or activities that include them outside our townhall. This is unacceptable. I'm not an SME on this but I know when my neighborhood of 9+ years has changed and in matter of months. If you want to take "holistic" approach to this, consider funding programs that is a liason with the police/social workers. Publicy Health & Safety/Policy & Programs

Support/encouragement/infrastructure to form/sustain block clubs. A structure that facilitates neighbors meeting neighbors could also help in Ward outreach efforts, while building community and resilience. I know that there is an office at the City - but the support seems minimal.
