6-Apr-19Maryam needs special attention / consistency in teaching.

1. I’m helping Maryam to gain confidence in all that she does and take risk as a learner. Please continue to encourage her.
2. Maryam has not mastered at least half of the consonants, which is the foundation of learning English. I believe it is the best that she gets all consonants right first, before moving on to blending of sounds, then introducing words.
3. So my focus of the one-on-one is to lay a good foundation, instead of helping her to complete (copy) her homework.
4. My target in April is to help her know and applies phonics to decode 3-letter words. Once she gets that, help her to blend sound of letters to read unknown 3-letter/high frequency words
Keila is easily distracted by her surroundings and needs a bit more effort on getting her focused. Has problem in Maths especially Multiplication, Divison and Subtraction/ Chinese

Tried cutting stickers into groups of 2-3 to get her more motivated and focused with work. She was also not feeling very well so she took even longer today to finish one set of homework compared to last week.Tasneem had been assigned quite a bit of homework for over the Easter holidays. Subjects include English, Math and Chinese. English homework is quite self explanatory and Tasneem should have no problem completing the work. As for math, she is currently working on multiplications. She has a basic idea on the operation for double digits multiplying double digits questions but may require some guidance. Chinese was the most challenging subject for her as expected. I was able to go through part 1/3 with her. I suggest taking the extra time to help her on her chinese Homework next week. For her assignments, since they are due on the 24th, I have asked her to concentrate on completing her English and Math homework. She should attempt part 1 of her chinese homework and seek assistance with us next week for part 2 and 3. Overall she is smart, hardworking and a delight to work with. Ask for handbook and for her to bring handbook

20-Apr-191. Consonants - Maryam is weaker in these sounds: Q, R, W, Y, I, H, L, N, O, E, G, U
2. Blending of sounds - Using the flash cards, we’ve done these words: cab, dab, lab, tab; bad, dad, had, mad, pad, sad
3. She seems enjoy reading English stories.

27-Apr-19Adam has been showing more interest in his learning. He is smart enough to figure out the answer of the question without fully comprehending what the question is asking. I think it will benefit him greatly if the tutor can walk through each English word of the question with him Maryam is motivated by the stars and the prize, but not so much the beads this week. She is easily bored and loses motivation for flash cards because it is diffcult for her to remember the phonics. She showed up late so we did not have time to do blending. She showed a willingness to erase and clean up her english writing homework. talked about the use of "too much" "too many" "fewer" "less" "a lot "a little" "a few" Ira did not bring his handbook I asked him to bring it for next time. Please follow up and ask him next time so we can double check what his homework is next time

4-May-19Maryam arrived on time this week, and was very motivated to earn the stars. We worked on finding, naming, and pronouncing consonants. We also worked on her math homework, using physical aids to teach division. She understands using the division sign, but not so much long division. She enjoyed reading a book about colours and food. We also created a bracelet from all the beads she earned from phonics practice.Ibrahim seems to be easily distracted in the beginning, but then he is only distracted when his little brother is around as he cares alot about him. Any noise he makes, he would like to check on his brother - so it might be good to arrange his desk somewhere closer so he doesn't need to run around all the time. Stickers also works like a charm and can encourage him to finish his homework & help him focus

11-May-19Adam is really smart and is quite focused with his homework. He knows that we are here to help so he will automatically bring out what needs to be completed. He also shows a good understanding with his math homework. We managed to also have alot of time left so we did extra worksheets and word search. Maryam arrived late as her parents were praying. She was extremely motivated to finish her homework, so we did English, Chinese, and GS. She can consistently read two-letter words when she looks carefully, and she guesses repeated words from her English reading (they have not become sight words for her because she requires the context of the book or illustrations to guess correctly). She is increasingly confident to try harder and do more things independently.
Tasneem arrived on time this week
and had brought her planner to show
what she was assigned for homework.
Tasneem was very motivated to finish
her work. It was great to see she
actually attempted her math prior to
arriving. She is currently learning
about measurement conversions -
From litres to millilitres. She is doing
fine, but requires point of references
to understand different volumes in
relation to daily objects. Her english
level and competence continues to
impress. Besides a few spelling errors,
her english homework were completed
without major issues. One thing to
note - she did not bring her chinese
homework

His Dad wants teachers to help him more with Chinese
Maryam arrived late again, but according to her she was frustrated that her mom was slow. She did not bring any homwork because she did not go to school yesterday. We read a book on "I Can See" together, and she was motivated to learn about different occupations and show me what she learmed. She complained about the flashcards, but when I wrote the flashcards on the piece of paper she was motivated to prove she knows how to do it. We went through -at, -ag, and -an. In the beginning of the class, she complained a lot about not wanting to do phonics or reading because it is boring, but after probing she revealed she was scared because it seemed hard. However, we talked about confidence and trying hard, and in the end she was excited to do both. I also noticed Tasneem calls her a baby since her reading is poor, and it hurts and embarasses Maryam. Maryam's dad wants teachers to help her more with chinese readings and writings.
Her mom told me that she has improved in reading English Alphabets and her mom wants teachers to help her more with chinese.
Ibrahim needs someone to sit and
read with him. He is willing to read
if you take turns with him. when
he is done homework I choose a
book to read with him. Today we
read "Sixteen runaway pumpkins"
He reads at a beginner
intermediate level
Worked on English writing, Chinese writing. English writing needs to be corrected many times so that it is according to teacher’s instructions.Copying Chinese & English words. For chinese she needed constant reminder on how to write the words using the appropriate strokes. She was easily distracted but eventually finished. Likes to cut and glue paper so we did that after she finished hw.

David is new, he is 4 and was able to do his homework. He can focus and do his work on his own. His mom wants teachers to help him with readings.Jenet is excellent at working independently. She asks for help when she needs it. She can read English very well and is also good at reading and writing Chinese. Although she is a focused student, she still works best on her own without distractions. Her mom wants teachers to help her with Mathematics.Angeline is friendly and talkative. She gets frustrated when she is confused or needs help. I think she needs plenty of encouragement. Ideally she should have one to one help. Her mom wants teachers to help her with Mathematics and readings.
