Introduction to your SIP/ School Profile

Built in 1951, and located in the northern part of St. Mary’s County, Mechanicsville Elementary School is home to approximately 290 students in grades K-5. At Mechanicsville, we are Mustang Proud! We focus on the whole child, and build positive relationships with all community partners to challenge, nurture, and inspire students toward active and engaged citizenship. We are a PBIS Gold School where students are Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Succeed. On these expectations, we build a positive school culture and climate where learning and growing is the focus.

Equity Vision Statement

Mechanicsville Elementary School provides equal access to a rigorous and well-rounded curriculum for all students. We carefully monitor our students' in order to provide persistent and proactive interventions and supports to help all students make progress and close existing achievement gaps.

Your School's Key Strengths

MES has a dedicated staff that provides instruction aligned to the Maryland Common and Core Readiness Standards, and provides a strong focus on character education. In addition to our core curriculum standards, MES provides students with additional opportunities for enrichment, such as Green Team, Stings, Chorus, and Destination Imagination. MES has positive relationships with the community and parents, as evidenced through our supportive and active PTO.

Progress Made During Prior Year

MES exceeded AMO targets in ELA as a school, and among subgroups. MES was recognized as a PBIS Gold School for implementation of PBIS strategies to fidelity and referral and suspension rates at or below national levels.

Areas of Continued Growth
for Upcoming Year

MES will focus on improving acheivement in Math Standards as mesuared by MCAP and continuing our growth in ELA Standards. MES will implement focused PLC meetings, with clear goals, monitoring of student achievement and regular formative and summative assessment of student progress toward those goals, particularly in math. Through continued implementation of Tier I & Tier II PBIS strategies, and training, book studys, and implementation of Conscious Discpline, MES will continue to make progress in character education.

Connection Between School's Work and SMCPS Mission

MES focuses on the progress and learning of all students. Additionally, the MES Vision incorporates the inititiaves of the SMCPS including: PBIS, Concious Discipline, MCAP, MCCR Standards, persistent and proactive interventions to meet student needs, and formative assessments.
