This model attempts to understand what is required to make a remote rural village viable, economically and socially. Generally all numbers with a green background are inputs; you can sensibly change these to see what happens to the model. Numbers with a pink background are outputs; they are calculated from inputs and you should not change them.

Generally, my assumption was that to be viable, a village must have a school. All outputs are therefore fundamentally driven off the number of children in the school.

These numbers reflect only those residents of the village whose incomes (when of working age) depend on the local economy. Retired incomers bringing pensions earned in the cities do slightly increase the amount of money in the local economy, but don't contribute to children in the school and substantially raise the cost of housing.
