3	1	AMCAS APPLICATION CHECKLIST The application process for medical school takes approximately ONE year to compete, in addition to months of preparation in advance (MCAT, personal statement, letters of recommendation, etc.). Use this checklist to keep track of your application materials to track your programs!

8	6	JANUARY	2023			Open an AMCAS account to preview what is going to be needed. Do NOT input any information yet.
9	7					Start brainstorming personal statement ideas
10	8					Update your Experience Log
11	9					Pick up to 15 top experiences and start brainstorming descriptions for them.
12	10					Pick up to 3 most meaningful experiences (MMEs) and start brainstorming descriptions for them.
13	12					Create a Letters Grid to figure out what types of letters you will need.
14	13					Start thinking about who you will to ask for letters of evaluation (LOEs).
15	14	FEBRUARY	2023			Start composing your personal statement (5,300 characters max.).
16	15					Update your Experience Log with number of hours of each experience and any new experiences.
17	16					Start composing descriptions (700 characters max.) for up to 15 experiences.
18	17					Start composing 3 MMEs (1325 characters max.) See the AMCAS website for more information.
19	18					Start compiling packets for potential letter writers.
20	20	MARCH	2023			Share your personal statement with Kristen or other resources
21	21					Have your personal statement reviewed by 2 physicians and/or healthcare professionals.
22	22					Update your Experience Log with number of hours of each experience and any new experiences.
23	23					Share your 15 experience descriptions (700 characters max.) and 3 MMEs (1325 characters max.) with Kristen or other resources
24	24					Continue compiling packets for potential letter writers.
25	25	APRIL	2023			Register and start studying for the AAMC PREview Professional Readiness Exam if the schools that you are planning on applying to require or recommend it.
26	26					Revise your personal statement, experience descriptions, and MMEs as needed.
27	27					Update your Experience Log with number of hours of each experience and any new experiences.
28	28					Ask potential letter writers for LOEs. If they say yes, send them your compiled letter writer packet.
29	29					Review the AMCAS Applicant Guide for general application information to prepare for the opening of AMCAS in early May.
30	30					Finalize the list of schools you are applying to
31	31	MAY	2023			Once AMCAS opens in early May, begin filling out your application.
32	32					Apply to AAMC Fee Assistance Program (FAP) when AMCAS opens. Funds are awarded on a first-come first-serve basis.
33	33					Request your official transcripts. Send one copy to medical school(s) and one to yourself.
34	34					Use your copy of your official transcripts to fill out the Coursework section.
35	35					Copy and paste your experience descriptions and most meaningful “mini essays” into the Work & Activities section.
36	36					Add your letter writers to the LOE section and send them the Letter Request Forms.
37	37					Copy and paste your personal statement into the Essays section.
38	38					Check that your MCAT score(s) are accurately displayed in the Standardized Tests section (scores should automatically upload after they are released).
39	39	JUNE	2023			Read through application for spelling or grammatical errors.
40	40					Submit AMCAS Application.
41	41					Check the status of your application to ensure that it is processed (may take up to 4-6 weeks). Resubmit documents if necessary.
42	42					Start drafting Secondary Application essays.
43	43					Share your secondary application essays with Kristen or other resources
44	44					Start preparing for potential interviews.
45	45	JULY - SEPTEMBER	2023			Check your email regularly for secondary applications. These are typically school-specific and often require additional fees.
46	46					Submit secondary application(s) by the deadline(s).
47	47					Review sample Interview Questions.
48	48					Complete as many mock interviews as possible. • Ask healthcare professionals with whom you have worked/shadowed, particularly those who are in the same career that you are pursuing. • Ask Kristen!
49	49	OCTOBER - JANUARY	2023	-	2024	Set up interviews as soon as you are contacted about them.
50	50					Schedule flights and book lodging and transportation, if applicable. Many interviews are now offered virtually.
51	51					Research each school beforehand and generate a list of thoughtful questions for your interviewer(s).
52	53					Complete your interview(s).

54	55	Congratulations! You have completed the application process for medical school.
