Psychology of COVID-19 Preprint Tracker
Last Updated: 9/19/2020, 9:00pm CDT
2
What is happening here? Preprints related to the COVID-19 pandemic are regularly being posted on PsyArXiv. The high level of interest in these studies, paired with the speed with which they are being produced, calls for the research community to actively review these preprints. This tracking sheet includes all preprints posted to PsyArXiv. The preprints are retrieved by running the following search in Twitter: (covid OR covid-19 OR coronavirus OR corona OR pandemic OR nCoV OR infection OR quarantine OR "social distancing" OR outbreak OR SARS OR virus) (from:psyarxivbot), which is augmented by a manual search directly in PsyArXiv. The list will be updated daily. At this time only PsyArXiv is included in the tracker, but additional preprint servers could be added if there is sufficient interest. Beyond the scientific and public need for vetting preprints at this time, one motivation for this project is that it serves as an early prototype for a community-oriented overlay journal. This collection may also be of interest to meta-scientists who want to examine how psychology responded to the pandemic.
3
How to review: Scan the titles, abstract, and/or full papers and find one that you have expertise to review. Your review can be extremely detailed, briefly focus on just a few core issues, can be communicated via Twitter thread, or any other format. The ideal approach would be to save the review as a Google doc. Post a link to the review in a comment in the appropriate reviewer slot for the paper (you cannot edit this document directly). Reviews must be open, i.e., publicly accessible, but they can be anonymous (although you are strongly encouraged to sign your review). If you are aware of an existing public review of one of the papers, please post the link.
4
Am I qualified to review? Yes. Any member of the research community is welcome to conduct a review, regardless of career stage. If you feel like you have relevant expertise, even for only a portion of the paper, please go ahead and comment. Graduate students and early career researchers are especially welcome to contribute. Traditional peer review requires editors to find and invite potential reviewers, whereas in this project individuals can self-nominate and complete a review at any time.
5
Who's in charge here? This tracker was created and is maintained by Moin Syed, University of Minnesota (moin@umn.edu, @syeducation). Anyone interested in joining in, improving the workflow, etc. is welcome to it! Just contact Moin via email or DM. He will serve as the "Editor" of this group of preprints, conducting general checks of the reviews for quality control and sending the reviews to the corresponding authors. Review links will be posted as suggested comments and will be accepted by Moin following the quality review, and then transmitted to the authors and posted as comments directly on the preprint in PsyArXiv.
