Identify people willing to serve in officer positions.
People do get confused by the TBP HQ solicitations and those of the alumni chapter. This is especially confusing to newbies not familiar with the org structure - the two brands tend to get blurred.
Supporting the 2022 annual convention in Knoxville.
From our bylaws: This Chapter supports the goal of lifelong alumnus member involvement through hosting networking events and tours; sending a voting delegate to the Tau Beta Pi annual convention; assisting nearby collegiate chapters with their programs to stimulate better student-alumni relations; aiding nearby collegiate chapters with recommendations of suitable alumni and eminent engineers for election to membership in the Association; and providing opportunities for members to meet and discuss common interests.
Zoom officer meetings are much easier to arrange vs meeting in person. We have found that meeting virtually on a Sunday evening is optimal from a scheduling perspective.

In 2022, we had a very large exec/officer team, so it was hard to find a time to meet that worked for all of us. In 2023, we have a small exec/officer team, so it is easier to find a regular time to meet (we agreed on once every 2 months for this year) as well as get responses to emails amongst each other between meetings.

Issue: Member participation

How are we trying to overcome these struggles:
- Keep hosting events and see what seems to get participation.
- Reassess what is our value proposition.
Goal 1: Host at least 6 events in the next year.
Goal 2: Host at least 1 event with at least 10 alumni members in attendance in the next year.
We don't think our chapter's issue is lack of support from HQ.
Hosting 6 events this past year.
See above.
Regular outreach to collegiate chapters to seek out collaboration opportunities.
It would be nice if we could preview all of the survey questions before completing the survey.

Trying to get people to show up for events. We've had a decent variety of events to join, and there seems to be some excitement involved in selecting them, but when a date is set and we ask for RSVPs - crickets. And few people come. We tried sending a survey to membership to see what types of activities would be of interest, but only received 3 responses, one of which was from the current VP and one from last year's President. We'll keep trying.
Need to reach out more to folks we have on our mailing list who are not active members. Maybe if we can get them interested in activities and such they will choose to become members and participate more. The list is there, email just needs to be crafted and sent.
More opportunities to network and get involved at the national level. The Alumni Officer afternoon and chapter chat panel were both awesome and I got a lot of ideas from both. Both were also highly encouraging because I realized that many of the other alumni chapters are struggling with the same issues that we are.
Re-establishing a good relationship with the Penn State student chapter. I think they were ignored for a long time because they are a distance from Pittsburgh. Prakit made the effort to drive up and attend their December initiation and that made a huge difference.
Get more people involved. I think we have a core group who don't mind taking the responsibility for keeping the chapter running, but it would be more encouraging if more people were attending events. Continue to stay involved with the student chapters. Try some new ideas to get people involved and participating.
I think we've formed good relationships with our student chapters by making ourselves available and making collaboration with them a priority. Some officers are more interested in collaborative activities than others, but we put the offer out there and make sure they have a point of contact they can reach and see what happens. We try to check in with them every couple of months at a minimum.

Member participation. We only had three signups for the huge (~3,000 student) Science Fair and four for the Texas Alpha career night. We are working on better events, such as a Tesla Gigafactory tour as well as considering purely social events. We are also trying to team up with the local MIT and Harvard Clubs.
More appealing events
Headquarters has done quite a bit. Publication of events like the Gigafactory tour will be helpful
The Texas Alpha career night- about 25 students showed up and we had good discussions and an engineering building tour
Better events, more lead time between announcement and event, teaming with other organizations
One thing we are thinking of is having events where rival schools compete, such as Texas A&M against Texas alumni in Top Golf or some other activity. I think part of the issue is identifying with TBP. I belong to the Penn Club and events are well attended. The last one was purely social (Drinks and Tappas at a restraurant) and had about 25 attendees from several Penn schools, including nursing, Wharton, and engineering.

For member participation issue, we are trying to increase the variety of activities such as social nights. We planned for a July 4th event, but was canceled due to weather.
We wanted to have more officers be involved. Six people were elected as officers but only four have actively participated.
It would be nice for new starting chapters:
It would be nice to have access to the previous officers as we were not able to meet with them. We started on our own with Tricia’s help. Some of our officers believe that if we were also given money to start the chapter that would be nice to rather than having to restart a chapter using our own money.
We had a very successful Pi day with the Orlando Science Museum in Florida. There were about 3,000 people in attendance at the museum on the day. We had math games and math tournament, and Pi-day trivia with kids who were able to win science prizes, such as chemistry sets.
Our goals for Central Florida Alumni Chapter remain as:
1. Expand the alumni network
2. Provide mentorship to students and young professionals
3. Create positive impact on our community

We will try to hold more social events, try to plan events with longer notice, to have a survey on event preferences. We plan on having another great Pi Day and a large social summer event.
Members began returning messages once they saw in pictures that we had fun at our social outings. It made people want to be a part of the activities.

Participation outside of the officers, both with other alumni members and student chapters. We plan to diversify our types of events. Utilize District Directors to help advertise our events to the student chapters.
Try to send officers to visit more student chapter general body meetings and/or initiations. Host an inter-chapter initiation banquet again (consider making this our signature event?)
Keep up the good work, Tricia! We'd like more connections between alumni and advisors or even just encouragement of advisors to become active in their local alumni chapters, if possible.

Recruit new officers. Develop a vision and mission statement for the chapter and an elevator pitch for when we're recruiting new alumni members.

Member participation has been our number one issue. We are trying to reach out to officers and gather input on what activities the members would like to see to encourage participation. We are offering zoom options more often for members that would prefer to stay at home, but would like to remain active.
My goal is to have an event where 10+ members show up.
I think making newly graduated students more aware of the alumni chapters that exist and how to get in touch with the chapters may boost participation and awareness.
The Zome Tool tour - we had great participation and it was a very technically informative event.
I would like to schedule several technical tours because this seems to peak the interest of most members. We also have a goal of having alumni members present at all of the Front Range collegiate chapter initiations.
We try to offer social events, technical events, and events with collegiate chapters to make ourselves present in more than one category.
Looking forward to convention! -Regan

Perhaps greatest is member participation. This year we attempted to have more frequent and less "demanding" activities. We also added variety (like just attending the play as a group).
To have even more and more varied activities. Increase communications between events (instead of just to announce a quarterly event).
Stick to our monthly leaders' meeting (even in Summer), even if not everyone can attend. We all have busy schedules, so to wait until all can attend causes delays and cancellations. This goes for the president, too! We should empower all leaders to drive meetings as needed.
Pi Day Event, though not as good as the year before, when students from 3 different chapters also attended.
ONCAC's official vision is the same as the national vision, "Providing a community for Tau Bates for Life" with the mission to "connect TBP members through networking & outreach and to inspire integrity and excellence in engineering." Specifically for next year, we aim to continue growing our member participation, improving communications (esp via LinkedIn Group), and engaging with Collegiate Chapters more.
Invite alumni members (not just Alumni Leaders) to attend Collegiate Initiations. It is a great "reminder" of your own initiation which, in some cases, is decades ago and long forgotten.
This was my first time to attend District Conference in person. I highly recommend it to Alumni to engage with other alumni on a more regional, dedicated basis (vs., eg, Nat'l Conv) AND to engage with the students from multiple chapters.

Activities / events that make people WANT to participate. Geography / schedules are an issue. Continue reaching out.
Gain more "active" members. Quality not quantity.
Put some funding interest to alumni chapters. If I could schedule a free luncheon / supper as an example...with a volunteer speaker. People are more likely to show for a free meal as a start coupled with an interesting topic. Sprinkling in human interest topics here and there has been a successful recipe for success.
Keeping the chapter still active.
We WILL add PARTICIPATING type members.
More frequent personal engagements have yielded positive results. Zooms get you so far but the new crop of grads would serve themselves well with direct interaction outside of technology.
God bless Tricia for chasing all of those alumni chapters across the country. :)
