제목[저항물결반] 저항의 물결: 사회운동의 관계와 역동

개요한국사회는 2010년대 이후 새로운 청년운동, 새로운 페미니즘 운동, 새로운 기후운동 등 새로운 사회운동의 물결을 경험하고 있습니다. 그런데 흔히 사회적 모순이 가장 심화되는 순간 저항이 발생할 거라고 생각하지만, 현실에서 사회문제의 심각성과 저항의 등장은 직결되지 않습니다.
그래서 사회운동 이론의 고전적이고도 핵심적 질문은 "저항은 언제, 왜 조직되는가?"였습니다.

사회운동 이론에서 가장 먼저 접하게 되는 자원동원론이나 정치과정론이 이 질문에 대해 사회운동 ‘조직’의 성패로 답하고자 했다면, ‘주기(cycle)’와 ‘물결(wave)’의 개념은 조직보다 훨씬 넓은 시공간에서 역동적인 차원, 관계적 차원을 포착하게 해줍니다. 조직이 보이지 않는 곳에서도 저항의 에너지는 쌓이고 어느 순간 파도가 됩니다.
시드니 태로우를 비롯한 핵심적 사회운동 연구자들이 정립한 저항의 주기(cycles of protest), 분쟁의 파동(waves of contention) 개념을 학습하고 이 개념이 실제 사회운동 연구에서 어떻게 활용되는지 파악함으로써 동시대 운동을 이해하는 데 도움이 되는 이론적 자원과 방법론을 갖추는 것이 세미나의 목표입니다.
