| Idea | This data can help you better understand the current situation on the PC platform, you can look up some popular or unpopular trends on the market and maybe even make decisions about which genre to choose for your future game! Feel free to use it however you want. Please give us credits if you use our data in your work, we would really appreciate it. |
| Sample Info | • This sample data contains lots of basic information about all released games until 20/08/2022. • We used https://www.gamedatacrunch.com/ and https://steamspy.com/ for gathering the data. Kudos to the creators! • Sample size is 54048 games. • All reviews in the sample are FILTERED -- that means they exclude review bombs and reviews from players who got the game for free. • Revenues estimates based on the famous Boxleiter method. • Not only developers adds tags for their games. Players adds them too. So don't be surprised if you see the "Strategy" tag for "Counter Strike". |
| Excluded Games | • All Coming Soon games. It is ~20 000 titles. Unreleased games don't have any open useful data. • Several dosens of anomalies, like games without tags. They are all pretty obscure games so their erasure is statistically insignificant. • Games that have always been F2P. For example, CS:GO is in the sample, but Apex Legends is not. If included, F2P games makes data very noisy. |

| READ THIS BEFORE USE | |
| Before using this data you need to understand several important things: • The values in this spreadsheet are NOT EXACT NUMBERS, they are ESTIMATES. So keep in mind margins of error. • Review Score in sample may differ from Steam. It's because GameDataCrunch Review Score is calculated by only using reviews from customers that purchased the game and weren't part of a review bomb (ignore free keys, ignore review bombs, but keys sold off platform are not ignored). Additionally, a confidence factor is applied so games with lower amounts of reviews are worth less to better compare across all games. • Review Coeffs may differ drastically by Year. For example, in 2017 median coeff was close to 75 sales to 1 review, but in 2020 it's around 38 (based on Simоn Carness data). Change them yourself if needed. • Do not try to use the same review to sales ratio coefficient for indie and AAA games. AAA is completely different in terms of marketing and is not relying on Steam featuring much. These games use different methods to gather traffic, and because of that, they have a much higher reviews to sales ratio. You can try to use coeffs from this article (https://vginsights.com/insights/article/further-analysis-into-steam-reviews-to-sales-ratio-how-to-estimate-video-game-sales), but data will be very unreliable because of the very big difference between min and max values. Keep this in mind when you change Reviews Coeff. • Data sample is really big. We might miss something. Please contact us if you think you found a mistake. • When changing the values Google sheets sometimes freeze. Reload the page if it happens. | |
