The Distance Learning Equity Dashboard
2
About the Dashboard: The Distance Learning Equity Dashboard (DLED or Dashboard) is the product of a thorough scan of 48 school districts in 20 states and provides a snapshot of the academic, nutritional, social and emotional and professional development services each of those districts offered to students and staff members during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read the full analysis of the Distance Learning Equity Dashboard: A Snapshot of Student Support Systems Across the South. The Dashboard was developed by Titilayo Tinubu Ali, Sujith Cherukumilli and Mirel Herrera.

How districts were chosen: 31 of the 48 districts within the database are part of the Southern Education Foundation's Racial Equity Leadership Network (RELN), a fellowship for district leaders who wish to implement more equitable policies and practices for their diverse student populations. The other 17 were chosen for being either the largest school district in their respective state or a district employing an innovative practice for its students, families, and/or staff members.

About the indicators: SEF researchers held conversations with peer organizations, partners, parents, teachers and district leaders within our Racial Equity Leadership Network (RELN) to understand the most critical needs of students during the pandemic. To create the Dashboard, SEF researchers conducted repeated reviews of states’ and districts’ reopening plans for the fall of 2020. Those reviews were conducted between April and July to provide the most up-to-date and relevant information for policymakers, education professionals, practitioners and families concerned about maintaining equitable student learning, family engagement, and teacher support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on our conversations and research on how several in- and out-of-school factors support student learning, SEF developed 20 indicators that we scanned for on each district's website as we built this Dashboard.

Updating our information: SEF recognizes that information is changing daily and that districts are working hard to update their websites. If you notice that your district's information is not accurately reflected for a particular indicator, please reach out to Legislative and Research Analyst Sujith Cherukumilli at scherukumilli@southerneducation.org with your particular concern and a link we can use to update our information.
