Introduction to your SIP/ School Profile
(appoximately 100 words)
Glenwood Elementary School opened its doors for classes in 1952 for approximately 225, K-6 grade students. Since that time, we have become the largest elementary school in Waukegan, and our student population has grown to exceed 700 students for grades kindergarten through five. The races/ethnicities of our 3 largest student populations are Hispanic(83%), Black(11%), and White(3.5%). We currently have 5 sections at each grade level--3 being one-way Dual Language classrooms and the other 2 Monolingual.

Our School Improvement Plan is a tool designed to address student achievement and identify any data gaps presented in our students' achievement. This includes any areas that may lead to our student experiencing difficulty achieving, like instruction, culture and climate, and family engagement. This plan will lead to improving the quality of education, student learning, and impact instruction.

Our schools’ strengths include differentiation, inclusion, Problem Solving Teams, collaboration, parent communication, and concise behavior expectations, with consequences when necessary. One of our greater strengths is that our teachers work collaboratively in grade-level teams to empower students to be lifelong learners. Progress Made During Prior Year
(approximately 50 words)
Even though this year has brought many challenges, we have made progress in many areas. Contiual use of data has become a part of our norm. Teachers are using technology to the fullest ensuring engagement of students during remote learning. Our K-1 dual language classrooms have been using a solid, daily phonics instruction model, and our students have seen growth.

Areas of Continued Growth
for Upcoming Year
(approximately 50 words)
We will continue to implement our Tier 1 instruction for both academic and social, and emotional learning. Our students' writing will continue to improve as they write in response to reading. We will analyze student data for differentiated instructions and provide small-group intervention (guided reading). Our literacy plan will focus on students’ becoming fluent readers by providing a strong foundational program in kindergarten through second grade. By delivering more individualized supports, it will reflect an increase in reading and math attainment.
