Mike donated $500 (including company matching funding) to our club with the stipulation that we use those funds to stock walleyes in Okauchee Lake. We had recently learned of an Okauchee Lake walleye stocking fundraising project that was underway. Mike wanted to be a part of it and he wanted our club to be involved as well. Thanks Mike! Shawn Rutka was the guy conducting the fundraising for this project. He collected $6700 and paid that much to Gollon on the day of stocking. MCW wrote a $500 check directly to Gollon and was delivered by Mike to the Gollon driver on the day of the stocking.

Gollon Bait & Fish FarmFingerling10009-10$10.50$5,250$10,500MCW and MCM partnered again ($5250 each) to stock 1000 fall fingerling muskies at $10.50 each for a total project cost of $10,500! These muskies were stocked in 3 local lakes with the following distribution: Lac La Belle: 300 (MCW: 200 ; MCMI: 100); Okauchee Lake (MCW: 300); Pewaukee (MCMI: 400). This stocking project was put together rather quickly in August after our supplier (Gollon) let us know that they would very likely not have any spring yearlings to stock in 2018. (A stocking request commitment for all leftover fall fingerlings had been made by Pennsylvania.) Because of that and because we had the financial ability to stock this fall, we worked with MCMI and Gollon to establish our stocking plan for this fall. A 8/24 MCW BOD unanimous vote commitment was made. Our club's focus continues to remain with stocking in Okauchee Lake but with a very firm commitment from Ben Heussner (DNR biologist) that Okauchee Lake would be stocked this fall, we opted to put a few muskies in Lac La Belle, too. Our club had no interest in stocking Pewaukee Lake at this time since the DNR commitment there has been very strong and we didn't feel stocking extra muskies was warranted there. Fall Stocking DNR note from Ben: On this day of stocking our muskies, Ben and his crew helped again wtih net pens in place at both Okauchee Lake and Pewaukee Lake. Ben told us about a problem with minnow supply this year prevented minnows from being delivered to the DNR hatcheries at all this year. The supplier from one of the Dakotas failed to have the proper licensing in Minnesota and got fined and was prevented from delivering minnows through Minnesota all year. The WI DNR opted to resort to pellet feeding all their muskies for the entire summer and fall and does not expect our DNR-stocked muskies to ever feed on live minnows before stocking. This means the fall fingerlings will be smaller and will lack the ability to know how to feed before they are stocked. Ben has been told stocking won't occur until early-mid November in hopes of getting the fall fingerlings up to length. They'll be stocked at the time when adult muskies and other large game fish will be feeding heavily. Let's hope at least some of the DNR stocked muskies can find a good hiding spot before winter and then figure out how to feed on live minnows and bait fish in our local lakes.

Gollon Bait & Fish FarmYearling100014-16$13.00$2,590$13,000MCW and MCMI partnered again ($2590.10 each) and also made use of an incredible grant contribution from Waukesha County ($4569.81) for this 2nd year in a row to stock 750 spring yearling muskies at $13 each for a total project cost of $9750! Both clubs had no trouble with their funding commitment for this Okauchee Lake stocking effort. MCW again received some generous and thoughtful donations in addition to alliance raffle ticket income and other fundraising efforts in 2016 and early 2017. In fact, we had anticipated funding even more muskies but in the final days before this stocking date, our supplier found their muskie count fell short of what we had originally requested. (Our original ask was for 1500 muskies that would have been distributed as follows: 1000 to Okauchee, 200 to Lac La Belle, and 300 for a MCMI headed project on Pewaukee. Once we learned of the reduced count, our MCW/MCMI stocking alliance opted to go with 750 for Okauchee and 250 for Pewaukee.) 254 (4 extra muskies than expected - thanks Tim Gollon!) additional Gollon muskies were stocked into Pewaukee this same day with funding from the Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc, John Laimon funds from the 3 Charlies tournament, and Doug Reuter. MCW did not contribute funding to the Pewaukee Lake effort.

4/27/2016Okauchee LakeGollon Bait & Fish FarmYearling29014-16$13.00$3,575$3,770This one came together REALLY fast! About 10 days before this stocking date, Gollon called to tell us they had more muskies left; est 150-300 but they thought it was closer to around 200. A lot had happened in just a few days to a) verify funding, b) get MCW approval, c) get a DNR permit approved, d) coordinate a stocking location with logistical setup, and e) establish the stocking date/time. Tim Gollon was so interested in us getting these fish that he told us that we didn't need to pay for them right away. We had secured significant funding in the way of donations and we very easily re-approved spending up to the total of $9000 we had approved for the 4/12/2016 stocking which was $2600 more. Surprisingly, Gollon discovered they had 290 muskies when they emptied their pond into their truck -- that was going to be $1170 more than our approved amount, but our general fund was in good shape and we had fundraising opportunities ahead of us so we went for it. Gollon offered to send all 290 but only charge us for 275 so they basically gave us a $195 stocking donation which was very cool. That meant we only had to come up with $975 more. We had another good turnout for stocking that day with 5 boats and 12 people: Rich Garner and Dave Dawson; Jim Dabish (OFC) and Mark Krmpotich; Greg Rubin and Barry Wickmann; Tom Truebenbach and Patrick & Mary Mickelsen; Thomas Murphy and John Gavin with 3yr old grandson Brian Domke.

MCW was able to contribute as much as we did only because we've been waiting for the ability to stock on Okauchee Lake for the past 3 years AND because of some additional funding in early 2016. We did well with our 50/50 raffle at the Milwaukee Muskie Expo (kept $510) plus our winner (Mike Phelps) gave $250 of his winnings back to us for stocking and, in addition, his company (US Bank) will be sending a matching donation in his name. In addition, we've received several more generous donations from Roxanne's friends and from people reading Dave Dawson's Okauchee stocking thread he posted on MuskieFirst about our Okauchee Lake stocking project (http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=108870&posts=17&start=1). Approx 3 weeks before our stocking date we enabled a donate button on our website and that alone brought in $1227.42! It seems like we are on a roll! And an incredible a last minute donation of $1115 from Reuters Show Productions (Doug Reuter - Milwaukee Muskie Expo) was made just a few days before the stocking date. Incredible! On the day of the stocking, we had an fantastic turnout at the Okauche Lake Management District launch on the north end of the lake where we staged the muskie before distributing them around the lake. In attendance that day were Waukesha County Executive, Paul Farrow and Director of Parks and Land Use, Dale Shaver plus a Waukesha Co PR person who produced this clip: https://www.facebook.com/CountyExecutivePaulFarrow/videos/1690035231267257/
Several other observers were present that beautiful Tusday. After the 800 muskies were staged, the following 17 club members from both clubs in 9 boats distributed the muskies around Okauchee Lake: Craig Ader (MKE MI) and Ben Sieren (MKE MI & MCW), Brian Mirek (MCMI & MCW) and Mike Malikowski (MCMI), Greg Rubin (MKE MI & MCW) , Roxanne Baumann (MCW), and Barry Wichmann (MCW), Chuck Montgomery (MCW) and Phil Rouse (MCW), Steve Berg (MKE MI & MCW), Thomas Murphy (MCW), Rich Garner (MCW) and Scott Wilkie (MKE MI & MCW), Andy VanSlett (MCW) and Taylor Van Slett (MCW), Dave Dawson (MKE MI & MCW) and Adam Teriaca (MCW).

Upper Mississippi River / Leech LakeMinnesota Muskie Farm (aka Oswald Fisheries)Yearling25017-22$30.00$6,000$7,500After several years of no MCW involvement with muskie stocking, leadership posed an ultimatum that demanded muskie stocking this fall. Scott Wilkie made a few phone calls in August and it wasn't long and his efforts paid off with unanimous approval for this stocking. All muskies were PIT tagged. 100 stocked in Lake Delavan. 150 stocked in Okauchee Lake. Delevan Lake's Lake association paid for half of the muskies that were stocked there and MCW funded all 150 muskie stocked in Okauchee..

2010Russ Ruland notes indicated that the DNR changed their mind and would take some muskies in Okauchee. The cost for extended growth muskies was $25-30 so MCW approached MCMI to do a joint stocking, but MCMI was involved with an over-winter muskie finish project in the Amron Pond (Vernon Marsh) and asked MCW if we would be interested in helping with funding minnows for this Amron project. MCW chose not to do that and also chose not to stock fish in 2010. (Incidentally, MCMI had a tremendously successful experience at the Amron pond. 101 muskies were put in the pond in the fall of 2010 and in April 2011 they recovered 98 of them. That's phenominal! A similar Amron pond attempt occured the following fall (2011) with approx 200 muskies and that project was a total failure -- all the muskies died shortly after stocking them into the pond. DNR reported that analysis showed "poor gill health." 1 year later (fall 2012) MCMI and the DNR tried over-wintering at the Amron Pond again and this time they had some success, however recovery was difficult because of a super thick mat of weeds all over the bottom of the pond. Recovery #s were ok (121 per DNR stocking data), but per Dave Dawson, having been involved with the recovery efforts, it's very likely many muskies were not recovered.

2008Russ Ruland's notes indicate $3500 was allocated for stocking muskies in Okauchee Lake but the DNR told MCW that they didn't think more muskies were needed in Okauchee this year. DNR stocking data indicates that 2374 muskies were stocked there in 2008. The DNR suggested stocking elsewhere (Silver Lake) but MCW chose not to stock in 2008. Note that the Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc (MCMI) was involved with stocking 750 muskies in Okauchee Lake in Nov 2008! In March 2016, Andrew Golden (Slamr and one of the moderators on MuskieFirst) informed Dave Dawson that the MCMI stocking occurred with 100% of the funding coming from a MuskieFirst fundraising effort that Andrew spearheaded in memory of "kly"; a young MuskieFirst forum contributor who died in an auto accident. Those efforts included a small tournament on Okauchee with a big financial impact! The MuskieFirst community raised $9500 and gave it to MCMI so that they could manage the Okauchee Lake muskie stocking that fall. (Andrew stated that MCMI didn't fund any of this stocking. Doing the math, these muskies cost $12.67 each.) The info in this link (http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=46357&posts=10&highlight=Kly%20stocking&highlightmode=1#M346442) doesn't reference how much money was raised, and doesn't really even discuss the fundraising effort, but does confirm that 750 muskies were stocked in Okauchee Lake in 2008. Even with hind-sight, I don't believe MCW was aware of this 2008 Okauchee Lake muskie stocking and because of the way it occurred, it's not clear if it could have been handled differently -- too bad, because had MCW been allowed to stock, a joint effort could have combined to introduce more than 1000 muskies into Okauchee this year. Just think about this missed opportunity!
20
2007No MCW muskie stocking occurred this year. We have found no indication as to why MCW didn't stock, but it was not because of a VHS-related stocking ban as had been previously suggested. Inquires to the DNR in early 2016 revealed that stocking was never banned in Wisconsin and non-DNR (private) stocking data they provided showed private stocking occurred during and through the discovery of VHS. The discovery of VHS did cause the DNR to change their stocking procedure which now requires a health certificate for stocking to occur.
21
2006VHS discovered in Wisconsin (Lake Winnebago system, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Green Bay) - DNR policy did NOT ban stocking altogether (as had been previously suggested by some within MCW), but stocking did require a new health certificate for stocking to occur. Muskie stocking data provided by Tim Simonson shows Non-DNR (private) stocking did occur in 2006. MCW may have chosen NOT to stocking in 2006 because of complications caused by the new policy. (See notes and data in the "Private Stocking Data" tab.)

10/8/2017 - This list of MCW muskie stocking data just got a big boost when Dave Dawson discovered stocking information in several of our club's old annual reports. A special thanks goes to Virgil Potvin for sharing his nearly inclusive collection of old MCW annual reports from 1971 through 2010. While the stocking info from these annual reports is very high-level, it did expose the fact that stocking did occur in the years identified above. All except the 1992 Annual Report has been reviewed (couldn't find the 1992 or 1993 Annual Report) so the high-level stocking info is included above. Additional data will be added as that information is discovered. In November 2015 our Waukesha County DNR Fisheries Biologist was asked to investigate and provide MCW with as much historical muskie stocking data related to our club as they can find. All fish stocking that occurs requires a DNR permit which implies that all MCW muskie stocking did go through an approval process so that stocking data should be available somewhere. Ben Heussner and Tim Simonson were unable to locate any of our private stocking information. If you're reading this message and you believe you have any MCW stocking data not already included here, please let us know. You can email us at stocking@muskiewi.org Thank you.
