I (Debbie Reese, Nambe Pueblo) began compiling this bibliography of stories and books about Native children who were fostered or adopted out of their Native community/nation on April 8, 2016.
2
Most of the items listed were suggested on the pages of two Facebook groups: Native American/First Nations Literature, and the AWP Indigenous-Aboriginal American Writers Caucus.
3
The list must not be considered a list of recommended items. Non-Native writer, Emily Henry, is included. Her use of ICWA in her young adult book is deeply troubling.
4
Scholars in Native literature find Udall and Kingsolver's books to be misleading as well.
5
If you know of others that I can list (or if I have made errors in what I've listed), please write to me directly at dreese.nambe@gmail.com. Thank you.
