GarywontfixI've seen this problem before. My usual answer to this is "don't call get_contents() while reading SConscripts." It's not really a public API function, though it's mentioned a few places in the man page (but never documented directly). But if you guys think it can be done decently, I'm ok assigning it to Ludwig to work on.
10
GreganytimeLudwig(GSoC events aren't tied to milestones, so use 'anytime'.) Yes, Ludwig will be the caching expert.

Steven1.xp2Ludwig?This one is surprisingly hairy. He's right that the behavior is "incorrect" but I'm not sure how we should solve it without killing performance by reading the contents every time. I think we need a better-thought-out overall solution to this issue that takes into account some overall memory-allocation policy or strategy, which is why I'm suggesting Ludwig.

Garywontfix.Agree w/ Greg; works as designed. Could be an enh req. in which case it would be 2.x/p3.
36
GregwontfixI'd run the test as a separate action, with dependencies to the created object. No need for AddPostAction here.

StevenInvalid? Feature? He wants his AddPostAction() to be run after a file is retrieved from cache. I can see times when you want that (to make sure it's chmod'ed correctly) and times when you don't (if the AddPostAction does some post-processing that actually gets stored in the cache anyway). Maybe a keyword option to AddPostAction() to specify?

Garyfuturep3Would be nice, but there's so much else to do.
49
Gregfuture?p2?I've occasionally wanted a way to associate an action (such as blow away a scratch directory tree) that should only be associated with one clean target, so I can emphasize. I'd rather not lose this issue, so I'd make it a high-priority future topic.

StevenWONTFIXHe's using GetOption() to call "make clean" whenever "scons-c" is invoked. I think we should make that the "official" solution for this situation and close this issue. Should it be documented more prominently?

StevenNeed more infoAre multiple SCons' being used in the same build, or is there something else running on the server (e.g. a file system sweep or backup) that's opening and therefore locking that file? Is there anything we can do here?

GreganytimeUse 'anytime' not 'research' for this type of issue. How about a 'CMake' keyword to track these issues?

Gary1.xp4garyoI could do this. I use Value nodes sometimes so I know my way around.
88
Greg1.xp4?not Steven? We clearly do want to have Value nodes as dependencies, so I'm in favor of the idea, but after waiting two years, it's not that urgent.

Steven1.xp2The guy actually included code and it's been sitting there this long... The fix is a little simplistic, but it's in the ballpark and we should really handle this case.
