Are parents able to add classes from their sign in on Aeries, or does it have to be on the child’s login?

This must be entered from the student account, not the parent account

Health or Contemporary World Issues it is their choice.

I understand that ethnic studies is one semester and so is health ed. Is that correct? And are those the only social studies classes offered to 9th graders?

World languages offered a placement exam at the middle schools. Math would be based on last course taken and middle school recommendations. We are open access so students may try a course in the Fall and can level up or down the first 3 weeks of school.

At least two years are recommended but students can validate this if they are in level 3 or higher.

The Contemporary World Issues class doesn't seem to be listed in the course catalog. Is there information about it anywhere?

Contemporary World Issues will cover more recent history. Topics could include challenges facing modern-day Latin America, post colonialism in Africa, the rise of China as a global superpower, and the story of the World's biggest democracy: modern India.

can I transfer foreign language credits taken from another accredited institution to fulfil graduation requirement?

This requires prior approval from the school. There are rules and regulations around what is allowed and not allowed. You will need to speak to your student’s assigned counselor

Can you share more informaiton about the summer session for incoming 9th graders? is this suitable for everyone, or for kids who need academic support?

The form for HS tours question that asks “Which date would you like to attend?” only has the option “This question is no longer accepting responses” (i.e, there are no dates to select). Can you please double check the form?

It may currently be full but this may change, I would check the form this Friday.

Correct; both will be primary course entries. And yes to the 2nd questions

Is the 9th grade orientation day Aug 4 or Aug 5? I’ve seen both dates posted… and is this mandatory?

It is scheduled for August 4th (confirmed!) and it is where students will get their schedule, pick up textbooks, take student ID picture. While not mandatory, it is extremely important to attend

Are there Shadow Days available still for students who do not attend a feeder middle school?

Currently only the tour dates are available.

What is the recommendation is for students who completed Geometry and Algebra II already?

They will choose Trig or Trig Honors and if you are having trouble adding it, please send an email to counselor.mvhs@mvla.net

It will allow you to delete a course after you have selected it during the course selection window.

We do not offer an Alg 2/Trig combo class. Algebra 2 and Trig are 2 separate year-long classes

They are a semester each so they can be paired together if you choose it.

My kid is taking 8.2 (geometry) in crittenden, does that count the geometry requirement?

My son has an IEP. I think there is a class he must register because of that. Is that also available at Aeries?

Your student will choose Ethnic Studies for one semester and then either Health or Contemporary World Issues for the 2nd semester

Yes, there is a window to drop courses without penalty and we remind student of those dates in the beginning of the year.

Is there an advantage of doing 4 years (instead of 3) of a language, in terms of college admissions?

Yes if students want to be UC a-g eligible, 3 are recommended but 4 will be a standout for college selection.

I submitted a tour request on the form a couple of weeks ago but didn’t receive an email. The form now says there are no available dates.

Yes -- until the end of the 6 week grading period. But there may not be space in the college prep equivalent.

We signed up for the French diagnostic test. when can we expect to hear back?

We expect results by February 27th.

Can you speak to how kids with IEPs and/or 504 accomodatations are supported in classes, when mixed together with kids without special needs?

The requirement is 2 years but 3 is recommended

What does it mean “CTE” courses? Is it for kids that know they want to do something specific in college?

CTE stands for Career and Technical Education. It allows for students to gain professional experience and training in a chosen field of study like Health Careers or Engineering.

What’s the benefits of enrolling honor classes? Is it benefiting college application?

A pathway is the 2 year course of study for the Career and Technical Education courses.

Dual enrollment provides the opportunity for college credits.

Students take the following: 5 cr. Ethnic Studies, 10 credits of World Studies, 10 credits of US History, and 5 credits of Civics, 5 credits of Economics

What’s a decent amount of AP classes for a student to take during the 4 yrs of HS to be competitive for college applications?

Yes, a season of a sport counts toward either PE credits and if they continue to do so, it'll fulfill general elective credits. The same for fine arts and world language.

Understanding that all 9th graders are required to take PE, what satisfies the PE requirement for 10th grade?

Students can take Total Fitness, Weight Training, Team Sports, Jazz Dance, Mexican Folklorico Dance or by playing on one of our after school sports teams

How are students chosen for electives? is it random or older students are given priorities?

We try our best to accomodate student's requests which is why we encourage our students to complete their requests by the deadline so we can see how many students requests an elective.

To help answer the math question, my math question is because my student is coming from a school with no letter grades and a very freeform math curriculum, so I'm trying to figure out where he should land in math. (not a question but hope it helps)
