Some abilities require specific instruments, which determines their compatibility with other skills:

The three Song abilities (Song of Bravery, Discord and Resurgence) require a Lute.

The three Blast abilities (Blast of Defiance, Despair and Fury) require a Horn.

Hymn of Resurrection is enabled by a specific Treasure Mod, but only affects allies that recently

heard your Song of Resurgence or Song of Bravery, effectively requiring a Lute as well.

Most Unarmed abilities require both your hands to be free. Exceptions to this rule are listed below:

Without free hands, you can still Body Slam, Front Kick, Knee Kick and Headbutt.

Having one free hand allows you to use the above, as well as Punch, Jab and Infuriating Fist.

Note that equipping a Cestus (Main Hand) or Claw (Off Hand) counts as having that

hand free for the purpose of determining which Unarmed abilities are (not) available.

Necromancy Gems and Holy Symbols are found on Main Hand, Off Hand and (rarely) Armor.

Necromancy requires having a Gem on your gear and not having a Holy Symbol.

Priest requires having a Symbol ony your gear and not having a Necromancy Gem.

Having either a Gem or a Symbol on your Armor enables its corresponding skill in Beast Form.
