KML Graph Scoring GuideExplanation

In general your graphs in physical science are of a type known as scatter graphs. The graphs will be used to

give you a conceptual understanding of the relation between the variables, and will usually also be used to
4
help you formulate mathematical statement which describes that relationship. Graphs should include each of
5
the elements described below:

Title-The title should describe the experiment.

Variables-The independent variable should

be plotted on the X-axis and the dependent

variable should be plotted on the Y-axis.

Labels-The variables plotted on each axis

should be clearly labeled.

Units-Units of measurement should be provided

in parentheses beside the axis labels.

Scale-Appropriate ranges should be chosen

for each axis beginning at zero, marked

along the axes in consistent intervals and

fitting all data points.

Plotting-Data should be plotted with dots

point protectors.

Line of Best Fit-A line or curve of best fit

is drawn smoothly to show the overall

tendency of the data. Lines of best fit should

be drawn with a straight edge. The line may

or may not go through all points.

EOL-The equation for the line of best fit

should be written with a clear explanation

of the variables in the equation and units

with each of the constants in the equation.

Neatness-The graph is neat and orderly

and can be read with ease. Graph paper

should be used when made by hand on paper.
