Description (to go to AWBF)Billie' was built by the Living Boat Trust in response to the overwhelming demand for access to 'Imagine', the first St Ayles Skiff built at Franklin. 'Billie', named after a favourite club dog, has been a great success, regularly out on the water for training, regattas, excursions and expeditions. As with all St Ayles Skiffs, she is forgiving for beginners, but relatively fast for a fit crew, and seaworthy in broken water. If the sea lochs of Scotland are the first home for Skiffs, then the estuaries of Tasmania are surely a second, and Billie is a great favourite on the Huon.Imagine was completed by the Women on the Water (WOW) just in time to participate in the 2013 Tawe Nunnugah Raid, one hundred nautical miles of open water rowing along the Tasmanian south east coast. Since then she has been by far the most used boat at the Living Boat Trust at her home on the Huon. Her success has prompted the building of many other skiffs in Australasia, which partipate in regattas, excursions and expeditions, and the organisation of a national Skiff association. Her success has prompted the building of many other skiffs in Australasia, which partipate in regattas, excursions and expeditions, and the organisation of a national Skiff association. John Liddy was built at Armfield Slip as part of a community development program initiated and parrt sponsored by the then SA Wooden Boat Festival Committee, Stray Dog Boat Works and the Alexandrina Council. John Liddy has since been in regattas and events in Franklin, Hobart, Geelong, Warnambool, Port Fairy, Goolwa and American River, Kangaroo Island.Cariad was built as a community project by the Welsh Church, and, as one of the first St Ayles Skiffs on mainland Australia, has been an exemplar for others to follow. She has participated in expeditions and regattas across the south eastern states. Eminent Tasmanian scientist, conservationist and activist Dr Louise Crossley commissioned Mike Seeney to build Syrah as a Raid boat and to launch from the beach near her house on Bruny Island. When Mike became too ill to continue the work he passed it on to Chris Burke. Louise herself then became ill, realised that she would not be able to sail any more and looked for a new home for Syrah. The Living Boat Trust became that home. One of Louise's requests was that Canteen (Cancer for Kids support) be given ready access to Syrah. Canteen have already made one visit to the Living Boat Trust, and we hope to see them more often. Louise died in July 2015Built by French immigrant carpenter Jean Pierre Malagny in 1986 as a day sailor for Darwin Harbour. Her low draught, flat bottom and good sailing characteristics made her perfect for this role. Restored by the current owner Pieter Lunstedt, the finishing work being done at the Living Boat Trust Franklin. The Trust have used Capricornia extentively for 'On the Water' programs, and for long distance expeditions.
