Lovely picture. Work to develop a better connection by encouraging hind legs to be more active. Try trot/walk/ prower trot transitions. Go around the ring at a trot then ask for walk by tightening your tummy, close your legs then closer your fist. Once you take 2 steps not strides of walk power off to trot. Don't worry about the head you just want go. Try this several times both directions. Next trot and ask for a walk transition and if the walk slows down power off to trot if not give him a pet. At this moment in the training be careful not to ride to deep in the corners so you can maintain the activity of the hind legs.
