1 | Don't forget to scroll down, lots of questions answered!
2 | What stats do I need? What are FSH meld priorities?
3 | You should ideally be in the current tier of White scrip gear. Gathering is the important stat, the higher you have, the better. Beyond that, if you are melding the standard BTN/MIN melds will work, if not, get as much gathering as you can, followed by GP. Perception when you can get it in, but it is not the most important stat for fishing.
4 | |||||||
5 | ... but what is the BiS?
6 | If you can hit 2300 gathering, you're fine. If you're over 2k, you're fine, you just can't catch x3 Mantas with Double hook. Look towards Stormchasers or Mosasaurs.
7 | For those who are looking for a guide, Shikhu of The Balance discord has provided a Mid tier recommended gathering meld set, which you can find at this link. PLEASE NOTE, that fishers will have a DIFFERENT meld set for their rod. Information found below via Shikhu's post.
8 | |||||||
9 | |||||||
10 | Which food should I be eating?
11 | Mushroom Saute. Ideally HQ, but if that's too pricey, you can buy the NQ version in the Crystarium. HQ Mushroom Saute will raise your Gathering by 76!
12 | |||||||
13 | How do I get hi - cordials?
14 | You can spend 40 Skybuilder Scrips to purchase a Steel Sky Pirate Spoil. One (1) Steel Sky Pirate Spoil is worth one (1) hi-cordial at the spoils vendor near the Athenaeum Astrologicum Aetheryte in The Pillars.
15 | |||||||
16 | Can I still catch Grade 2 Artisanal fish?
17 | Yes, you can. Thanks to Akane Tsuki of Fishermans Horizon for this info. Windbreaking Cloudtop (X27, Y7) - Gobbie mask mooched from Scorpion Fly Buffeted Cloudtop (X34, Y17) - Skyfish, with a red balloon. They DO count towards the stage 2 achievements.
18 | |||||||
19 | Why am I not catching <fish>, are my stats too low?
20 | If your stats are too low, the game will tell you. What is most likely happening is that you are either not in the proper weather, or you're just getting unlucky and the fish isn't biting. Increasing your gathering stat will help!
21 | |||||||
22 | Where do I fish during Heat Waves?
23 | Heat waves is the current default weather for this season of the Diadem. Where you fish, is up to you! Any fish, except for the Umbral weather fish, are available to catch. The standard go-to fishing spot seems to be the Windswept cloudtop for Stormchasers, or Swirling Cloudtop for Mosasaurs. These are two of the highest scoring, non-weather based fish. If you are using the Blind Manta Method, you would fish there, instead.
24 | |||||||
25 | |||||||
26 | |||||||
27 | |||||||
28 | What should I do if I catch a bot in action while fishing?
29 | If you find someone who you strongly suspect is botting (getting a lots of points in one day doesn't necessarily mean botting!), please use the in-game reporting feature and report this person. You can access the reporting feature by going to System > Support Desk > Report Cheating and fill out the associated form provided.
30 | |||||||
31 | "The fish sense something amiss" and I can't cast, what does this mean?
32 | It means you've been fishing for a while either in the same spot or at the same hole. This is an easy fix. Try moving to another part of the fishing hole. If you're still seeing "The fish sense something amiss," then you have something called super amiss which just means you need to fly to another fishing hole, cast your rod out and try to catch something. This will reset your "fish sense something amiss" and you can fish again for a while until it happens again.
33 | |||||||
34 | |||||||
35 | |||||||
36 | |||||||
37 | What's the gathering breakpoints?
38 | The only breakpoint currently known for fishers is 2300 gathering, which gives 3 Blind Mantas or Oscars per double hook. This is important for the Blind Manta method of fishing.
39 | |||||||
40 | What's the "meta" fish for Ishgard? I want points, scrips, ranks and glory!
41 | Unlike previous seasons "Gobbie" meta, this season has at least three potential avenues for fishing: Stormchasers/Helio's, Mosasaur/Wyvern and Blind Manta. Storms and Mosasaur are your typical "just catch them" type of strategy, you can mooch them off of Scorpionfly. For Blind Manta, you Double Hook them, then identical cast, then Double Hook again. This method is only viable with 2300 gathering, as you get 3 mantas per Double Hook. However, you can mix and match, all seem to be strong for everyone. REMEMBER: Fishing is heavily RNG based, so points can wildly vary based on how lucky/unluck someone is. Estimated numbers are an average.
42 | |||||||
43 | |||||||
44 | |||||||
45 | |||||||
46 | |||||||
47 | |||||||
48 | Ok, but specifically what is this "Blind Manta" meta I hear about?
49 | See the Guide under "Guides and Macros"
50 | How do I mute /shout chat?
51 | If you press the gear icon under your chat window, you can make a custom chat window where you can filter out /shout chat. You're welcome. |

1 | Mosasaur Fishing Guide (Good points, Great scrips) | Manta Fishing Guide (Great points, ok scrips) | Cast Counter Macro
2 | For Mosasaurs, the goal is to get scorpionfly's as quick and as much as possible. To do this, we will use the "Cast" macro, provided to the right. At Swirling Cloudtop, cast your line out. If your time hits 10 seconds, and nothing bites, hit Hook and cancel the cast and recast. If a !! bites before 10s elapses, DO NOT HOOK IT. It takes longer to hook a fish, than to let it go. Regardless, if a ! bites, hook it immediately using Hook or Precision Hookset if under the effects of Patience II. Once caught, use mooch or mooch II to cast the Scorpionfly out. Wait until something bites, if it's another !! DO NOT HOOK IT. If it is a !!!, congratulations, it is Mosasaur. Hook it with hook, or Powerful Hookset if under Patience II. If you use Mooch II, and it is on cool down, you should activate Patience II and drink a cordial to recover your GP. While under Patience II, you need to use the Precision hookset to catch Scorpionfly, and Powerful to catch Mosasaurs. Repeat this process over and over. Simply, if Mooch II is on Cooldown, use Patience II and a cordial. If it is not, use it as soon as you can, and enter into Patience II right after its use. | Manta Fishing is a bit more involved than Mosasaurs, and uses much more cordials. While there is room to improve efficiency of this method, this is the most basic theory behind Manta fishing. We will be ignoring any fish which is ! or !! and takes less than ~16s to bite. Our primary target is to actually surface slap Kings Mantle, as this provides the safest way to Double Hook Mantas. You will also need 2300 gathering. You can get this via food, HQ Mushroom Saute or HQ Peppered Popotos are recommended. 2300 Gathering is the threshold for Double Hooking 3 Blind mantas, instead of just 2.This is what makes Mantas' method worth something and is pivot to have for this to be beneficial. Finally, you MUST USE DIADEM RED BALLOONS. Using the catch macro, cast out a the Calm Cloudtop. If you get a !! past ~16s, catch it. If it's a Kings Mantle, use Surface Slap. If it is a Blind Manta, use Identical Cast, pop a cordial and cast again. The next cast will be Blind Manta (because of identical Cast) and you can then Double Hook this for an additional 3 Blind Mantas. If you get a 16s+ !! bite and Kings Mantle is slapped, you are safe to Double Hook, Identical Cast and Double Hook again. You could also "Blind Double Hook" which can be risky. Manta's have a window which ends later than Kings Mantle, but they still can overlap during the 20 - ~30s range. Usually, the longer the cast, the more likely it is to be a Manta. If you get a 32s+ cast, you can Double Hook and most likely get 3 Blind Mantas, but still run the risk of a "late" Kings Mantle. You can decide what risk you want to take. Should you do this, you can again, use Identical Cast and Double Hook if you have the GP available. | This is a cast counter macro which is an extremely important tool in a fishers arsenal. Every fish has different "windows" of time when they could bite after a cast, so knowing how long it's been since we cast can help us isolate fish which we want to get.
