Not enough obvious/dedicated walking routes. Roads are very busy with traffic and parking an issue.

Main thoroughfare along Leeds Road can be uninviting as a result of the traffic - and there is no obvious meetings place or neighbourhood centre. Greenwood centre and space there can be a good venue/meeting place.

Holroyd Park and Dewsbury Country Park are on the doorstep - but residents report they sometimes dont feel safe using/accessing them.

No there is a lot of different backgrounds people living in Ravensthorpe. Public areas are being used by Europeans for smoking drugs and big gatherings this makes people feel unsafe to use public areas with their children

The homes in the area are ok. But on the small side streets there seems to be many houses where too many people are living, and alot of houses that have broken furniture outside and ruining the area. There is lots of space in most areas and close access to the greenway is brilliant. Access around Ravensthorpe Junior School at school drop off and pick up could be improved. Queuing on the street and cars parking in no parking areas makes this quite dangerous. The number of people driving to school who could walk also makes this dangerous.

There is far too much traffic in Ravensthorpe. Particular places of issue are North Road and Huddersfield Road.

Access to essential amenities is good, schools, GP, library etc. There aren’t many places to sit and eat or drink (ie cafes, restaurants) but I think this is more the area and clientele for the area than something that can be improved

Very congested areas in Ravensthorpe and on the main road towards Dewsbury, Thornhill Lees and Mirfield. Roads are also in a pretty bad state for cyclists! Greenway aren't very well connected as they are in other areas of Kirklees - disjointed and not continuous to help you get from one town to another without exiting the Greenway.

Ravensthorpe train station has very limited journeys. And usually the slow train as we call it. No car or cycle parking at the train station...! Not sure about bus routes as I don't use as it's easier and cheaper to travel by car or walk.

Play spaces for kids are years old, dirty, unhygienic, broken and need to be pulled and replaced. Not just in this area, but all of North Kirklees. Why are children not being invested in?? There's a play area in Gawthorpe just outside of Dewsbury which has a fantastic play space yet we never see anything even remotely like this in our towns. We have to travel out if we want our kids to play in nice spaces. How awful is that? Not many great parks in the area. Need more investment and looking after. Dewsbury adventure park is great for kid's but only opened about 4 times a year!! Adult recreational spaces are also very run down. Very few available. Not much invested in them either.

Too many cars parked on pavements, many of which are untaxed. Believed to belong to local garages storing them. Many pavements covered in litter or unsafe for people with mobility issues due to holes/lumps.

Plenty of buses to Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Leeds although they often run late and traffic can be very bad through Ravensthorpe. Due to operators apps hardly ever being correct it is often difficult to make a decision on what bus to go for.

If walking through industrial estate wagons are parked up on the pavements making it very difficult for people to walk safely round the area. Traffic is a constant issue, too many cars. The River and Canal Pathways through Ravensthorpe are dark, overgrown, full of litter and people taking drugs under the bridge. It is a dangerous place after tea time and not somewhere I will walk alone after the afternoon time of day.

I dont use public transport at the moment. But when I last did, there isnt s train to wakefield from ravensthorpe. The station is very scary and isolated at night. A dangerous place for women on there own like myself. I've used it to come home from huddersfield on an evening and it is a very scary place not lit up well. The traffic however through ravensthorpe is absolutely TERRIBLE. I live on Calder road, and it is already back to back for 3 hours solid at tea time. We have had our car damaged so many times from lorries and cars squeezing passed. It can take half an hour to get out of ravensthorpe at key times. God knows how much worse it will be with another 4000 homes.

I live on Calder road. We have permit parking on one side but it is shared by all houses on both sides of the road. That means there are approx 14 parking spaces for over 50 PROPERTIES! It is absolutely shocking! I have already complained more times than I can count to the council. We have lost more wing mirrors, cars been dented, scraped and scratched, even wrote off! By lorries and vehicles trying to get through passed our parked cars, not to mention hardly any of us can park near our homes due to the lack of parking space already. But again... you want to add 4000 homes to the top of our street that have to get passed our houses and cars...

The shop fronts are scruffy, dirty and unkept. The small green park area wr do have are full of litter, and drinks all gathering in them. I wouldnt EVER take my child to any of the parks in ravensthorpe due to all the rubbish and local drunks hanging around them.

If we walk to the top of Calder road we can enjoy the woods and fields. This is the only part on this side of ravensthorpe for natural beauty. And you want to build on it. We have walked through all the lady woods and fields for years. There is so much nature and wildlife up there. But if you go into the centre of ravensthorpe it is such a change. All run down and full of rubbish and litter, half building falling down or broken walls, overgrown pathways everywhere... it goes on

Nothing but pizza & burger shops and run down stores. It's not a place to shop. The doctors surgery is now becoming difficult to get in as it over run with patients from mirfield. But in not allowed to register at mirfield surgery? How is that worked? There are no cafes or anywhere you can sit in or outside to enjoy a coffee... all just fast food, take aways, phone shops & car washes.

My partner has never found work permanently in ravensthorpe. He worked for a few companies who would only offer zero hour contacts, or cash in hand work. He has to travel to agencies in huddersfield and further afield. Most people who live around me are unemployed.

A lot of the homes are very run down, in bad condition, and are overpriced. The landlords do not maintain the properties, and it seems neither do some of the tenants. The council should be writing to people to make them clean up their gardens to stop the area looking so scruffy.

I am ashamed to tell people i live in ravensthorpe... it is very looked down on due to its appearance when passing through.

We have the spenvalley greenway, except this it is very uncomfortable walking in Ravensthorpe streets with so many gangs standing on corners. Park facilities are not family friendly but more used by thug youths who vandalise or use drugs or drinking in these areas which doesn't help that we have very little if non police presence

Majority of parks are run down and not a family friendly environment. More police surveillance is needed to keep thugs and drug dealers away from these areas. Facilities are left in a poor state. Examples are grass on playing fields not cut every fortnight as council requires even tho other areas get prioritised. Kids parks are not safe and council needs regular checks on the parks for safety. Kids parks have had Facilities removed which could have been repaired or replaced. Rubbish dumped in parks not taken much attention by council and left there which causes hazards unhygienic and rats in area. People should be fined for dumping rubbish and more should be done to trace dumpers instead of ignoring or not prioritising this issue.

John street full of drug ,alcohol , gas canisters broken glass and unused stolen cars and cars from the garage on havelock street .alcoholics sat outside all day on the benches outside the car wash drinking cider abusing people when they walk past .Havlock street lorries and cars parked all over the pavements waiting for an accident to happen unable to walk down the paths with any one I support from work or wheel chair users . parking is a joke for the full stretch of the A644. The traffic calming measures cause the problem not enhance it.

This is an area that is an embarrassment to North Kirklees when passing through. The shop fronts require a full refurb and the advertisements on each shop front ripping down.Just take a look at one or two of them that have already done this the transformation is amazing.would not go at night.

It is a run down area with little diversity of shops. It doesn’t feel safe, the streets are littered as are many of the open spaces, the feeling is residents don’t care about their environment. Traffic congestion is a major issue, especially at peak times, later in the day the road becomes a race track & as a cyclist it is a dangerous place to be. There is no sense of pride or identity in Ravensthorpe.

It’s very difficult to know what can be done, how do you develop a sense of pride in the area? More police presence, better traffic management may help.

Other then Spen Valley Greenway at end of Ravensthorpe and Cycling path behind Ravensthorpe (not through), there is limited cycling provision and roads are often overloaded with Cars and road surfaces are poor. Traffic is not free flowing through Ravensthorpe and cars pull in and out of side roads adding to dangerous cycling

Ravensthorpe Train station is quite far away from the centre of Ravensthorpe. It is unsightly (dusty/dirty) and the road from Ravensthorpe to the train station is surrounded by disused Industrial buildings or Concrete batching plant making it unattractive. Compared to Mirfield Train station, it is unsightly. Bus Stations could do with tree planting (on roof) or solar panels to subsidise lighting charged by solar.

Congestion through Ravensthorpe is horrible, large trucks, cars and vans all pass through to Dewsbury or the M1 and the narrow built up location of Ravensthorpe makes it feel polluted and unsafe. Cars take priority over people and food businesses and other high street shops add to the level of excess parking.

Often littered every morning/night and if not for a street cleaner the rubbish would be excessive. Derelict buildings could be used for Community space and areas around Ravensthorpe could be improved with tree planting, 'Ravensthorpe in bloom' projects. Parks are often littered and individuals sitting in them drink and are anti-social.

Ravensthorpe could benefit from a by-pass to eliminate congestion caused by Traffic lights, cars accessing side streets and to reduce traffic. Ravensthorpe High street needs refreshing with less 'fast food' takeaway shops and other businesses. Industrial factories and visual amenity needs improving as it is not perceived as a nice place to live. Road surfaces are poor and litter enforcement is required.

There is too much garbage around the area, too much fly tipping, too many rodents coming because of the fly tipping, too much anti social behaviour especially at night. It is a disgrace

Extra measures taken against those who fly tip and leave garbage around as well as the bin men and the street cleaners doing their job properly. The people who fly tip need to be fined and be held accountable. Their needs to be police around on a night for the anti social behaviour that goes on.

Plenty of car parks adequate for the current population. Add a few thousand more residents and this will change.

There was ment to be a bike path on Huddersfield Road when is was in school but now I'm 30 and there still is not one and even if there was cars would park on the bike path. Most people can't walk on the greenway or even on the street without being racially attacked or having the paths blocked by cars parking in the path and not the road.

You use to be able to go to all cities from Huddersfield Road on the bust but now you can't and still most bus stops don't have shelters or are broken in some way.

We are ok for football, basketball and cricket but nothing for other sports and nothing realy for kids of all ages to play in and areas for the adults to watch them.

We have a lot of takeaways we can sit in or even greggs and subway but we have no toilets that any one can use as the library is manialy closed all the time (even before covid) and the 2 other toilets are the doctors or subway and you can't use them without paying or having an appointment.

There are a lot of drug deals and gangs about ravensthorpe so I don't feel safe at all. My cousin has been attacked ficicaly meny times and I have been threatened meny times by people in ravensthorpe for no reason whatsoever and the police have done nothing.

The ones that are not bought are looked after but councle and private rented areas look run down and not at all attractive to the eye.

No i dont. As I am one of the minority in ravensthorpe it feels like I'm not represented at all and most people are agents the lgbtq+. We don't get asked how we feel about things and when we do we have to go and call them on the phone to be told they are on holiday or get told you have to travel to Huddersfield for your opinion to be heard in a full on meeting.

there is too much traffic at times and a few cars are parked on the roads dangerously and so it becomes hard to see the full road and the cars on the road while crossing it

there is a wide range of schools that meet the expectations of people both education wise and religion wise

there are a lot of places but the majority of them are not in walking distance so you might have to use a form of transport

We do have massive issues with parking. As we are only allocated 2 spaces per household we do have safety issues with cars constantly blocking entry and exits. We were aware that the park in our area was going to be converted into more parking spaces but this has not yet happened. We as a community feel very strongly that this needs to go ahead as soon as possible to avoid issues with car blocking on a daily basis

Don't think it has a positive identity at all. its looks awful and can smell worse at times I don't know if its the drains or manure from the fields? I am aware of some criminal activity too - intimidation and bullying from one particular family that the police do nothing about (it is rumoured that the reason is because the main culprit is a police informant) Cllrs are aware but do not get involved. Also nuisance neighbours and harassment occurs. Its a poor neighbourhood and has all the issues that go along with it so no their isn't a positive identity in my view

A return to a local council where each elected councillor can be involved in council decisions. Building new houses such as the Riverside Development will do nothing to improve the housing situation in Ravensthorpe and to proceed with the development without making significant improvements to the local infrastructure will actually make the situation worse. It is doubtful if the people living in the old terraced houses in Ravensthorpe will be tempted to move to Riverside so many of the existing problems will remain unresolved. A determined and concerted approach to policing is an absolute necessity.

It is definitely not safe to cycle through Ravensthorpe.

There are no safe places to park in Ravensthorpe on roadside. There are some places at the gyratory retail park.

The town centre is scruffy. I am sure traders try to create a nice place, but it doesn't feel safe.

There are no leisure areas, apart from wedding venues and pubs and the park. I don't know if there are sports clubs.

There is no library. Personally I do not know of any nice places to meet for eating or drinking. The GP surgery has a good rating.

Other than religious meeting places, I am unaware of other venues.

Traffic and roads are appalling. Took 30 minutes to drive from York to Dewsbury and then 30 minutes from Dewsbury to Mirfield (3 miles), the gyratory at Ravensthorpe, the volume of cars on the road, cars joining from side streets (rat runs). Trying to drive when there is a wedding/ event on at the venue is pointless as there is a major impact on traffic. Speeding cars is a concern. Cars turning from Huddersfield road on to north road (a no left turn) puts pedestrians at risk. Cars parking on pavements. Cars double parking down side streets.

Ravensthorpe is an unsightly mishmash of shops; parks are no go areas where I wouldn’t feel safe; groups of males drinking and intimidating

Dewsbury park and the greenway can be accessed from Ravensthorpe, however as a single female I would not feel safe in those areas,

The retail park is handy, would not use any of the shops on the roadside as they look unsightly

Not enough cycle routes - there isn't one suitable for mobility scooters to Mirfield. Pavements are bad, not enough dropped kerbs - cars park along them that are present and so are of no use. The cycleway is notorious for gangs knocking people off bikes and attaching them. Its definitely not safe to walk alone.

Huddersfield Road is a bottleneck for cars - you cannot walk along Huddersfield Road without being covered in dust and the noise is awful. Cars park all over, blocking routes for other cars, even on double yellow lines particularly on the road off Hudds Road where the Kebab Range is on the corner - nothing is ever done about this. The gyratory at the bottom of North Road is a death trap, people trying to turn right take their life in their hands. Coming on to the gyratory from the Mirfield side, cars turn left up North Road, its a wonder someone hasnt been killed. North Road - traffic calming is useless, cars speed up and down day and night, nothing is ever done.

There is nothing positive about Ravensthorpe, the shops create a 'shanty town' feeling. Too many take-aways and derelict looking shops. Any public space is now taken over by big groups of men drinking, they stand there all day intimidating passers by. Full of rubbish - everywhere you look, who would want to sit down in any of them. Nightime is a no-go area definitely

Only the shops in the industrial estate at the bottom of North Road are useable by everyone. The rest of the shops on Huddersfield Road are take-aways, I would never shop here, there is nothing to buy. Again most of the shops make the road look disgusting, you can tell as soon as you leave Mirfield and enter Ravensthorpe, the surroundings immediately change and all you see is rubbish.

There is plenty of houses in Raventhorpe but they are a shambles to look at. The streets are littered with rubbish and any communal space is full of bags of waste.

No one mixes together in Ravensthorpe and anyone saying any different is deluded.

Anyone I know thinks Ravensthorpe is a complete flea-pit, I have lived here 35 years and it has gone from being a 'bit bad' to absolutely awful, it must be one of the worst areas in Yorkshire - I have not seen a worse one. I would move but the value of my property (because its here) has drastically reduced compared to others in other towns.

I dont venture out in the evenings. You can hear the drugs fireworks going off all night. Nothing ever happens. Cars speed up and down the roads, people on motorbikes without helmets it is lawless.

NO THEY DO NOT!!! Have you driven down Havelock Street recently? The garage at the top on the right as you go down uses the road as their private car park! Vans are parked on pavements frequently. There is one van abandoned there with no engine in totally blocking the pavement. Ravensthorpe SEC at the top of the street on the left is used for people with disabilities - how dangerous is it that they have to take a wheelchair out into the road to get past? Also that road is used as a racing track - as are a lot of roads in Ravensthorpe.

Have you visited Ravensthorpe recently? It is dire! It is dirty, full of litter, scruffy buildings, unsavoury people hanging around outside shops and on street corners, drugs being openly dealt - need I say more?

As I asked before - have you visited Ravensthorpe recently? Nowhere is well cared for in Ravensthorpe apart from St Saviour’s church.

The whole place needs a good clean, litter needs sorting, the drug dealers need stopping, the idiots that drive the fast cars need sorting out and the traffic needs sorting. One of the problems with the traffic starts with cars cutting off the A644 to go down Broad Street which eventually comes out via Ravenswharfe Road into Scout Hill. This is a rat run because people don’t like queueing on the main road. Traffic would flow a lot better if Ravenswharfe Road was blocked off to entry onto Scout Hill. Also drivers in Ravensthorpe seem to think they can do exactly what they want - pulling out of side roads in front of you, overtaking (even though there are very few opportunities).

The routes are always full with cars next to the wall on pavement. Plus there is not enough zebra crossing on Huddersfield Road

There is often lots of rubbish/discarded furniture items left on pathways around the streets. Many pavements are littered with discarded smashed bottles particularly around Cross Foundry Street and Foundry Street/ Huddersfield Road junction where people gather drinking alcohol purchased from the shop on the corner of the street.

Plenty of public bus services serve Ravensthorpe. The railway station is not central enough and we get very few visitors to the Museum who come by train

Some areas are neglected. the public car park on North Road is often littered with broken glass and general litter. The business adjacent to this car park often dumps its rubbish eg pallets etc on the grass verges for weeks on end and goes unchallenged. The Bus Museum boundary wall at the front has been demolished three times by erratic car and truck drives so we have decided not to replace it.

There is often the feeling of tension in the community. High performance cars often race around the streets and go unchallenged. I would not allow my children to play on the streets as the dangerous driving issue is very worrying

The retail park offers a reasonable range of shops and the local shops on Huddersfield Road provide a mix of retailing, but many look run down.

Interestingly, as a locally based charity, we have no volunteers that actually reside within a couple of miles of the Bus Museum. We rely on individuals from outside of the Ravensthorpe area to run the Museum.

I know that there are a couple of community meeting places such as the Scout Hut and the Centre where the Library is positioned. We have been involved in events organised by the C of E Church

As I do not live in Ravensthorpe this is difficult to answer, however as someone who is in Ravensthorpe at least twice a week, I do not think it has a positive image, does not appear to have any obvious long term heritage.

The area is plagued with large groups of men stood on street corners drinking and socialising on evenings and weekends. Damage is caused, bottles are smashed, rubbish left in the streets. This is Ravensthorpe's biggest problem. Each monday morning at the Museum our first job is to clear the rubbish/broken glass left on our forecourt. We have witnessed several instances of fighting in the street, cars being driven erratically and a general disregard for politeness by many individuals.

Enforcement action against those littering. More police presence. Local groups to be set up to support litter collection.

Sort out parking on pavements, so you can walk on them. As I am disabled and find walking hard to do making it better for walking and cycling is not much use to people who have problems.

Public transport rubbish and too costly, they only run buses on routes that make money. Ravensthorpe station is a total disgrace - no toilets - no disabled access to all. Platforms for people in wheelchairs and prams.

Yes I have done a lot of voluntary work for the community. Job opportunities limited but available. Businesses doing well considering.

We have neighbourhood watch group - voluntary groups to help in mosque. PPG patients participants group at GP surgery.

Generally yes when gypsies come or are danger we talk to each other to PC for support.

The footpaths are usually covered in litter. They don’t feel safe. There is too much antisocial and possibly criminal behaviour which appears to go unchallenged. The main roads are also littered, have too much traffic and the whole area feels scruffy and dirty

Many of the buildings are scruffy and poorly maintained. There is nothing to see which is attractive. There are many lovely old buildings which are hidden by overgrown vegetation and Ill thought out new buildings

Most jobs in the area are low paid and low skilled. I would worry if the car wash for example, is paying their staff the minimum wage. Better opportunities are only available out of the area

Better planning policy where local people are not just consulted but where their views are taken on board. Don’t build hundreds more houses which will make things worse. More effective policing, including more officers on the ground with better community links

Ravensthorpe has definitely been a place that has been forgotten about, it is run down and unloved. There is a high immigration and ethnic population in the area making a lot of people feeling uncomfortable and a stranger in their own place of birth. It has just become a dumping ground for low demographic people this is not fixing the problem it is very sad.

Ravensthorpe is grid locked most of the time and not just a peak times, traffic does not flow effectively, which then causes high pollution in the area which lead to bad health.

Alot of shops in Ravensthorpe look unkept alot of shop signs look like they have been up for more than 20 years. Ravensthorpe doesn't look like an attractive place to be and most people from surrounding areas just call it a dump. A lot of rubbish around which attracts rats particularly around the takeaways as they leave food rubbish on the floor. This is a health risk and needs looking at and takeaway businesses fined if they are not adhering to the rules.

We are fortunately to have Holroyd Park, church field, the nature reserve in the area so they are places people can get away from crowds and traffic.

A lot of children play out in Ravensthorpe which is nice to see, but what they dont seem to be is play in the park or field where there is space and away from houses, they play in the street which is dangerous as people speed and I am surprised there is not more accidents with children getting run over.

Now we have the retail park it is a lot better as before there wasn't anything other than takeaways.

There is a local economy but only between the same ethnic groups this needs be more dynamic and welcome different types of business into the area otherwise it is just phone shops, takeaways, car washes and DIY shops. there is more out there but the place is such in a rut.

I don't feel I belong at all, there is no community feel other than with my close neighbours but alot of strangers and foreigners all looking for an opportunity. I have a white, british women in my early 40's and I feel like the foreigner!

i never walk on my own if I am honest, after around 8pm only youngsters out and foreigners so not safe for a female at all.

Not good - there are pavements and cycle lanes but often blocked by motorists parking partially or wholly on them - especially close to take-away shops on Huddersfield Road. I do not feel that walking and cycling has any priority over motorists and it is certainly not enforced. Attractive? Definitely not. Walking through the country park is quite nice and alongside the river (other than the rubbish) but the latter will be curtailed by the forthcoming railway expansion plans.

No real view as I tend to walk everywhere locally or take the car if travelling more than a couple of miles

Way too much traffic. Huddersfield Road is a rat run between the M1 and the M62. Stop all larger (other than local) lorries using the main road. Lower bridges so that they cannot use it. Slow the traffic down by way of narrowing, lowering bridges or putting in humps so it is not worth taking the short cut. I really feel strongly about this. When the Spen Valley Greenway bridge was replaced about 12 years ago it should have been lowered, not raised.

A few nice spots - the country park springs to mind as long as you can avoid the druggies - but I wouldn't say it was great to be honest

I am retired so not really aware - there seem to be a lot of bedding factories and, judging by the regular fireworks on the football/cricket pitch, the local drug economy seems to be booming

The place needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom. Crime rate is ridiculous, the buildings look filthy, it’s infested with drugs & undesirable characters. Our grandparents used to tell us what a great place ravensthorpe used to be. Now, the best thing about it is the road out.

The entire Huddersfield road network in & around Ravensthorpe requires severe sensible investment asap. Roadworks kept to an absolute strict timescale DURING the night time only & widen all the roads with greater parking/sudden stopping restrictions placed in & around Ravensthorpe given the danger zone & chronic risks to environment & health!

The greenway is exceptional however through the centre of Ravensthorpe the traffic is awful and cycling not pleasant. The double parking doesn’t help. Walking is inhibited by parking on curbs, litter and poor quality pavements. Fly tipping and litter affect the walking and cycling routes.

It is sufficient however not exactly what I need (travelling to Batley takes longer than getting to Huddersfield and even getting to Heckmondwike means walking all the way up Heckmondwike road)

Traffic through Ravensthorpe is always heavy showing the road system is not appropriate. Either in terms of signal management or capacity. You can queue from nearly Dewsbury all the way to the gyratory only for it to then be clear after that

Despite the country park and greenway (which are marred by litter) the centre of Ravensthorpe and surrounding streets are ugly, litter strewn an unpleasant

All of the parks are in some form of disrepair. There is a small ‘park’ opposite my house which is heavily used by the neighbourhood children but as an open space because the ‘park’ features are rotten and broken. Every park within walking distance is the same. Contrast this with Mirfield and you can see we are classed as inferior in our needs here in Ravensthorpe

Area is largely populated by families of Southern Asian descent and Eastern European. There is a bias even from estate agents to not sell houses to white families which is reducing diversity. Housing is of lower quality than the surrounding areas

Having just moved here with children, including a newborn, I am unaware of any groups to meet other parents.

As previously mentioned a lack of diversity and no opportunity to meet other parents mean I don’t yet feel I am part of the community

I’ve not yet felt unsafe however the amount of fly tipping makes it clear that lots go un noticed or unreported which makes me feel unsafe.

This is only a 2 because of the group who work on the country park. The general state of Ravensthorpe means it is clear that nothing is well cared for. Once again the contrast to Mirfield or other parts of Dewsbury is striking.

There should be more for teenage children as there's a lot for children etc like parks, but for teenagers there is not a lot to do. A lot of teenagers go out of town to do stuff like activity centres, shopping malls, theme parks.

There's not enough shops as everyone in the local area travels out of town to buy clothing, house essentials etc. I think there should be a shopping centre where people from other areas come and make our area busier.

There's not a lot of work opportunity, local people have to travel out of town to get a job. Closest opportunity would be Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester for a job.

Not enough routes for cycling and walking. No direct links to places of interest, and not attractive and needs to be cleaned regularly. Need more seating

Not reliable transport and not safe and accessible for disabled adults and children and carers. Needs to be more affordable.

Streets and spaces need to be cleaned and improved to a high standard, clear signposting.

Totally chaotic on many streets. I live on Spring Place gardens and there are times when you have to knock on doors to get cars moved. Extremely narrow path throughs for cars and parking on both sides of the road.

Ravensthorpe is a run down outdated network of scruffy streets, the back streets are especially dilapidated.

There is a park at Ravensthorpe but this tends to be occupied by groups of young men who do not move even when I have taken my grandchildren to play

No, the shops tend to be run by Asians and eastern Europeans who employ within their own community

There are places but they are not accessible as taken by gangs and youths. There is a particular group of Eastern Europeans who stand outside Milco every day (bottom of north road) in all weathers and even throughout the pandemic drinking alcohol. PCSOs move them on but they just come back instantly.

I have not felt safe in Ravensthorpe for years as soon as I get off my road, especially at night. The gangs, the street drinking, the cars racing against each other, fireworks going through the day and night. There is a banquet suite who regularly let fireworks off in the early hours, as well as daytime fireworks in the back streets.

Never been asked my opinion or told how to get involved until this questionnaire.

The parking is dreadful at school time, drivers park anywhere making it unsafe for children and parent to get past. The zebra crossing is no better especially on Huddersfield Road near Spen Valley people barely stop their cars for the person standing at the crossing.

Bus fares could do with looking into as they are quite expensive and not everyone can afford, especially if you are going out on the bus as a family.

Traffic is dreadful and parking can be a nightmare as mentioned before. At school time no one wants to give each other way. At times traffic comes to a stand still as everyone is trying to push in and not give each other space. Parking is dreadful, cars are parked here, there and everywhere making it dangerous for kids.

There is rubbish dumped outside nearly at every corner. At times there are huge crowds of EU people standing outside most shops in a crowd making it unsafe for pedestrians to get past them especially in the covid times. Pot holes are another issue. Houses look like they have had their bad days, rubbish is put out at the end of every corner.

I think Ravensthorpe could do with more play areas and have events. Create more places where kids can go to socialise, explore and stay safe etc - play area (indoor), gym, cooking classes, computer classes.

GPs are a big problem, lets say they might not be there as to get an appointment is impossible. You are told to phone 8am to make an appointment, you phone, the call never gets attended to for a good 45 mins when you complain or enquire you are told that they are busy, yet you walk into the surgery and find the secretaries chit chatting amongst each other ignoring calls. The GP surgeries are a big joke and on top there is no dentist where the community can go to for oral health and hygiene and if you call around no other dentists are taking on NHS patients, this is a big issue that needs looking into.

People have the local parks to meet each other safely outside.

A lot of people look down on Ravensthorpe classing it as a no go place, a place where people don't achieve much, a place where people from other countries are dumped at, a place where drug rate is high and education and succcess rate is at its low.

A lot of street ends and park are used for drug use. Young youths are normally parked up outside deadends doing drugs, a lot is vandalised, a lot of houses can do with a makeover. More cameras need to be put out espcecially in places where people keep dumping rubbish.

The worse part about Ravensthorpe is the way rubbish is left here, there and everywhere. There are literally rats crawling every street. It is unclean and unhygienic. People from EU like to take rubbish from here, there and leave it anywhere to dump once they no longer want what they have picked up. Disposing of rubbish using the black bins, putting them out for collection is something they are alienated to.

No one is listened to. The Councillors you only see near to election times, after that you won't hear from them. Confronting somene or saying something when there is something going wrong is unsafe to do so as you never know what it can lead to. There should be more police patrols for safety.

More seating needs to be installed. One area between Heron Close and Clarkson Street/Broomer Street has no lighting at all. It Is a very busy area but doesn’t feel safe at night or in winter when it is dark earlier. This space has been improved by a local group Ravensthorpe Residents Action Group with planting and a few boulders for seating. There are no signposts or a proper link for people coming off the Greenway to get to Route 66 in Holroyd Park. A lot of the area in general needs greenery cutting back (for eg in front of Northstead allotment site you can’t walk on the pavement. There are areas I wouldn’t walk on my own any time of day.

We are on a main road yet we can only get a bus to Huddersfield or into Dewsbury bus station to continue our journey. Only certain stops provide any seating or shelter. There is only one main bus company running through so residents have to pay that price as there is no competition. There is quite a difference in price between an arriva day ticket and a metro ticket you have to get depending on your journey. Less buses mean a longer waiting time and the amount of traffic passing through Ravensthorpe can make a massive difference too.

Huddersfield Road was (improved) several years ago. Build outs where put in place for the bus stops but this stops any traffic from moving when a bus is at the stop. Emergency vehicles can’t get through. There are too many cars and too much noise. Whenever there is an accident on the M62 a lot of traffic comes through Ravensthorpe meaning an increase in HGVs and general traffic. I don’t believe the zebra crossings are in safe places, many being right next to junctions. You have to be very careful before crossing as most drivers are looking at what is coming from the right not at you on the left on the crossing. Too many cars turn left at North Road when they should go round the gyratory. There have been too many near misses when pedestrians have the right to cross. There is very little parking available. The biggest car park is for the retail park and privately owned so you can’t park in there unless shopping. There is a lot of speeding on Park Road. Some drivers will use the opposite lane as they know the speed bumps are easier to drive over. Residents use there cars too often when facilities are just a short walk away. Some side streets are very difficult to get through with the amount of parked cars. Bradbury Street has double yellows lines at the junction but these get parked on by people using the takeaways and access is terrible.

Ravensthorpe has a bad reputation for not being a very nice place as people judge it by the main road. We have all the same buildings as in Mirfield but they aren’t presented/looked after in the same way. There are too many takeaways, some having no bins so the area is littered regularly. We have some lovely green spaces around the area, many local residents don’t know where they are. The facilities in some however need a lot of improvement. There is a lot of anti social behaviour with fly tipping, groups of people hanging around in gangs, drinking on the streets and smoking/taking drugs in communal areas. Some areas you are not welcome by certain people. Not much happens on a night most public buildings are open through the day. In bad weather it is really difficult to get around the area. As more people are using a small space in winter the pavements get very bad. Main roads get clear but many of the side streets can be affected for longer periods as they never get cleared making travel much harder. The planting on the gyratory was beautiful. Over time more and more of the plants are being removed being replaced with stones/chippings.

We have some fantastic green spaces in the area. Dewsbury Country Park is a wonderful asset to the area. There are plenty of volunteering opportunities there. There is a variety of walks that can be accessed by most people and plans are in place to improve access even more. There are unfortunately occasions that local teenagers have spoilt the area by causing anti social behaviour, building dens and breaking up seating, but this gets sorted as soon as possible. Fly tipping is the main problem in Ravensthorpe. More bins are needed and they also need emptying more regularly. Most green spaces will have something dumped on them. There isn’t enough seating around the area for adults to get to together. A lot use the seating in play areas to meet up which isn’t appropriate. Play areas need improving with more variety of equipment.

All green space in the area is free to use. More facilities need putting in place for children with disabilities. I believe areas need improving by having walking tracks round to attract a wide range of people using the facilities such as at Crawshaw Street playing fields. More people using the track and playing on the field would help prevent a lot of the antisocial behaviour that happens there. I would like to see more green gym equipment in the area making exercise more accessible to the community.

The retail park is an excellent space in Ravensthorpe. It hasn’t however improved the variety/quality of other shops (a couple of exceptions) available in the area. It is easily accessible. There are no toilet facilities except in the Greenwood Centre, when that is open. Getting an appointment at the doctors is a nightmare and we have no access to dental care in Ravensthorpe. Most places to eat in are the takeaways which I don’t do.

Ravensthorpe is a high transient area. Many of the properties to rent are in poor condition and aren’t big enough for who lives there. There are a lot of (absent) landlords who don’t look after their properties when tenants leave not clearing away what they are responsible for etc. Some areas are unrecognisable now due to extensions and work that has been allowed to take place. Most properties not being left looking in line with the local area. Affordable housing that was built in the area was bought by private landlords and not families, some left empty for up to a year.

There are several spaces for residents to meet, usually accessible all year round and at different times of day. I believe that residents who want to get to know each other do so.

I like where I live and I work to improve the area as much as I can. People and some family members I know can’t understand why I live here! The area isn’t looked at in a positive way. People think it is dirty, a dumping ground for Kirklees. I have great neighbors, we get on and look out for each other. However a lot of things happen here that are ignored and there is a lack of trust for the authorities and police. There is a lot of history to the area what is known by residents I don’t know. I have taken part in some great activities in the past to learn about the area but nothing has taken place for a long time.

I have lived here a long time. There are places I won’t go to on my own, but I would with someone else. I lock my doors as soon as I get in the house but I believe everyone should do that and everyone is advised to do that wherever you live. I don’t like to go out too late as it makes me feel nervous. There is a lot of antisocial behaviour that goes on with a perception that nothing is done about it. Incidents take place down here that aren’t reported creating a bad feeling amongst residents. There is a perception that certain members of the community are treated differently to others.

A lot of work needs to take place here. There is too much antisocial behaviour that gets left unchecked. Fly tipping is taking place daily, with no follow up to the people who are trying to make a difference or consequences to those doing it. I have have reported problems in this area and been told “well it is Ravensthorpe” as though it doesn’t matter. The area needs a thorough clean and residents need to know it’s not acceptable to throw their waste where they like. Too many shops are getting away with not having business bins and letting the area look really bad. I am a member of the local action group and have been since 2007. I can honestly say issues that were being raised then are still on going today. We carry out a lot of work in the area litter picking, planting bulbs and flowers and working in the local woodlands. This for the benefit of the local community. What we don’t get are volunteers from the local community. Some I have spoken to have said there should be an Asian group doing what we do, but I believe we should all be working together. We have collected 1,000s of bags of litter over the years, sometimes we feel like we are wasting our time with little support from neither the council or local residents, but we want the area to be seen for how good it could be! A lot of the behaviour is caused by just a few people but affects many.

I personally have helped improve the area and taken part in influencing what happens here. We live in a great space it just needs a lot of TLC if people are willing to join together and get things done! When out working we are told 2 things - we’re doing a great job or wasting our time... I believe a lot of residents would happily take part and deal with issues but a lot don’t know what to do or feel confident enough to report the issues affecting them.

Empower local people to be confident in tackling issues that matter to them. Support willing residents who volunteer around the area more Organise more social activities like we used to have like galas

There are routes but they are not pleasant, unclean, rubbish everywhere and unkempt. This puts families off going for a walk.

Too many cars. Parking permits should be introduced on some streets where parking is especially busy.

Not many/any landmarks. The main road is quite miserable - shops and shop fronts looking tired.

The open areas at the back of Ravensthorpe Road are excellent for walking and cycling, and for taking fresh air, unfortunately this would be lost due to the Riverside project. I hope good quality PROW of ways have been included as part of this scheme.

I use minimal public transport, busses are less frequent on Ravensthorpe Road, but the Ravensthorpe Train Station is at a walkable distance which is excellent, trains to a degree are also reliable.

Ravensthorpe Road after being re-surfaced has become one of the main roots from Thornhill/Dewsbury to Ravensthorpe/Huddersfield/M62. There are many large industrial companied which operate in the area. Over time this road has become extremely busy, bringing with it noise, pollution and where HGVs do not slow down to compromise speed humps, the whole house shakes and has an impact on my babies sleep. There is also a problem with speeding and dangerous overtaking. In terms of parking we have drives which lead onto the main road, it is becoming extremely difficult to reverse out, most times its better to leave the car parked on the road. All thesee issues will only get worse with this new scheme. The noise from vehicles is the main concern as its impacts on sleeping and in turn mental health.

The PROWs are impressive, but they would be lost, unless the Council scraps the scheme. Not much else is attractive here, the one thing we have and its being eroded.

As mentioned, natural spaces are available to the back of Ravensthorpe Road and alog the canal towpath, its a shame we are loosing this quality space.

Amenities are available within walking distance, however my local mosque would be demolished, and the Council have turned their back from what they had originally proposed, this is extremely poor from the Council.

Prices are creeping up for houses, so are rents, there is a housing shortage, but that's in England in general and not just for Kirklees or this area in particular. Quality homes are what's needed, not your card board box, houses which are built to last, not become derelict in 30 years for regeneration to start all over again. Hopefully a joint Council/private development might bring a positive partnership, but I think viability will be the winner - please prove me wrong.

There is a mosque which I use everyday, its great for praying, interacting, discussing issues and topics in the area. It is going to be demolished, and was going to be replaced by the Council within the proposed development which seems like the sustainable thing to do, in the local, centre, amongst other community facilities, and where people frequent. But this has been pulled by the Council after around 2 years of negotiation with other sites being offered. The sites offered sites are not even worthy of development and do not meet planning policy and guidance for such a development. I think Kirklees Council should be firm with their private partners and not be bullied into submitting to stupid cost cutting exercises which only benefit the private developer. They should be focussing on the local community and providing them with facilities which help and bind people and shape places. Give the local people what they need, it is inevitable given the make up of the area that the Riverside development will need a mosque. Stop wasting everyone's time, people are getting frustrated with the Council.

I will feel like i belong when the facilities i need are provided in the best sustainable place possible - this includes a mosque.

Most spaces are overlooked. I feel safe where I live, although I do see people hanging about up to no good when on my walks.

I wish the Council would care for the mosque being demolished and replace it with what they promised originally.

1. Replacement mosque in a sustainable location within the new development. 2. Noise from traffic/hgvs and when going over humps needs to be addressed. The new road at the back of the properties on Ravensthorpe Road need to have more tree panting and a larger landscape buffer to mitigate noise from that new road. 3. Compensation for all the noise and disruption we will endure for the coming years.

Walking routes need to be cleaned and more pleasant to walk in. Cyclist need routes to ride when on the road Need to be made more accessible for all users.

Dewsbury Country Park and greenway is an exceptional asset to Ravensthorpe. Lots of accessible routes for all abilities. I use this regularly. However, i would never walk on this on my own. There have been numerous attacks / muggings and often gangs of youths with dogs they cannot control.

I do not use busses, but I feel we have adequate bus stops that are very convinent and I do use the train station occasionally for Leeds and Huddersfield. The train station is very remote and i would not use this on my own in hours of darkness.

The gyratory at Ravensthorpe causes traffic chaos. Often can take over 30 minutes to get through from Dewsbury or Mirfield. Drivers often do not follow the system and make right or left turns where they should not. I have nearly been nocked over on the crossing because of this. There is regular parking chaos on Sackville Street and surrounding streets due to 'The Grand' venue where there are lot of vehicles trying to park. They often park on double yellow lines, double park and cause traffic to come to a stand still

The main road through Ravensthorpe is an eye sore. The shop fronts are unkempt, rubbish overflowing from bins. Gangs of men hanging around outside shops make it very intimidating to walk around. I feel there are farm too many barbers and takeways.

Dewsbury Country park is very accessible and has lots of local wildlife. I feel it is maintained well and accessible to all. There can often be rubbish left around (alcohol bottles and takeway wrappers) which spoils the experience for those who wish to enjoy the park. There are often nuisance motorbikes using Sackville Street as a race track near the greenway. Mostly in hours of darkness.

Doctors surgery very accessible and within walking distance for most residents. The range of shops is poor. Only the ones in the retail park worth visiting where you can find the goods you need. The retails park is very well maintained. All other shops on the main road seem to cater cater for specific ethnic groups.

The look of most housing in Ravensthorpe is poor. I feel this is mainly due to residents not having pride in the property they live in ( not maintaining gardens / exterior of their property. Alot of properties are rented and are overcrowded which can create excess noise and rubbish in the streets.

Dewsbury Country park offers a place for people to meet up outdoors for walking. I cannot think of any indoor space in Ravensthorpe where people could meet up. I do not feel people from across the whole community and from different backgrounds mix together

Ravensthorpe used to be a pleasant place to live with a variety of shops and pubs and cafe's. Huddersfield Road (known as the lane) was a place where people could buy all their groceries without having to visit neighboring towns. Ravensthorpe is now know widely as a place that is not pleasant and no one would want to live. I feel very embarrassed to tell people I live in Ravensthorpe.

I do not feel Ravensthorpe is a safe area to live. There is lots of drug dealing which can be regularly witnessed and prostitution. These criminals use the back streets of Ravensthorpe for these purposes. I do not feel comfortable walking about on my own.

public buildings and spaces are well maintained. There are issues with litter and dog mess. Fly tipping is also an issue and happens on a regular basis. I dont feel private landlords maintain there properties to a decent standard and properties look dirty and scruffy. I use the recycling Centre and feel this is well and have used the collection service. Bin collections are always on time and staff very pleasant.

There is a wedding hall which is opened all night long and doesn't allow us people to sleep during he night because its stays open until 12 at midnight.

Local buses now go to less places, you have to go into Dewsbury to go anywhere except Huddersfield or Leeds, which means changing buses so paying more fares or a day ticket which cost £5 for Arrive or more for Metro. Train station a long walk up road if not in car. For a family its cheaper to get a taxi. Short of seats on most walks round the area

Buses to dear for family travel and children. Got to change buses to get to most places except for Leeds - Huddersfield. Not too bad a service to above Monday to Friday, Sunday not so good. Do they take people where they want to, no except for lots of changing of buses which makes it more expensive. Toilets at bus stations good, not all train stations have got one.

Not much to do for the elderly as bowling shut due to vandals. There's football and multiple courts cricket field but not many organised places to use.

Shopping ok. Not many places to meet and makes friends for the English community. Doctors etc good but no dentists.

Most of the places to meet are mainly for the Asian community. No people from whole of community do not mix a lot. There's not many spaces to meet in all weathers, I don't know any. I don't know anywhere except churches where people can meet. Community centre basically provides things for the Asian community or learning needs for the eastern European community.

No to all - The place is a tip. People throw everything out in the streets, road, parks. It's just like they treat the place like a dust bin.

The area is not too bad during the day. At night sometimes where they stand drinking not as much.

Parks etc are areas to keep clean but they don't stand much chance with this rubbish society. Every street and road have litter and tipping problems since the charge for collecting rubbish was put on. No the facilities are not good for refuse storage or collection. I don't think landlords give a damn as long as they get their rent. There's not many local resident associations.

You can try to contribute but most things are cut and dry before they ask you opinion on.

When walking / cycling to routes, roads and footpaths are damaged which makes it more difficult and roads are not kept clean

Public transport is good but in the odd occasion buses/trains do not arrive on time which means we arrive to our jobs late.

Traffic is an absolute nightmare in Ravensthorpe, it results in a delay to important tasks/jobs we may have to do in the day. A lot of narrow roads cause problems as cars get confused as to when they can pass as some people cannot tell the difference if a car is parked or not. Potholes is a massive issue, surface of the roads are a disgrace. Road works to be completed in the evening/nights or there is too much traffic in the day.

Some aspects of Ravensthorpe is nice, however it is starting to look less attractive each day because of all the fly-tipping of rubbish in streets and alleyways.

More natural/open spaces of nature should be available to the community for positive mental health and a change of beautiful scenery.

A consideration of Ravensthorpe play centre could be introduced as this will help those who struggle to help provide happiness to their children and should be at an affordable price.

Jobs should be available to help those who did not exceed in passing exams and help provide support local apprenticeships for students.

Roads are awful, lots of potholes. All streets should be newly tarmacked as my street as poor road surface (Fir Avenue/Parade) Gutter flooding's Dog poo all over streets as some people are careless Littering and fly tipping everywhere

I have a driveway but cannot park on it, they park in front of me cannot get out as some families around here have 3/4 cars. Kirklees Council said they drop my kerb in 1991 if I did not have a disabled bay then they went back on it. I have now to park on the road the other side of my house, and when I have been shopping have to carry my bags across the road and I am done for the day as my legs will not go! This is how Kirklees Council care for their old disabled people. I even ws going to pay - no good they still park across from me.

If I had a kid, I would not let them play anywhere round here. I keep my eyes on them. Kirklees have to get themselves together, they are no good at anything. You ring up, you pay and it takes 4 weeks for them to do anything. I been to London to stay, rubbish is picked up every day and every week.

I would like some english food. I cannot eat spicey food. I would like shop to be both. Doctor is ok. I have a good doctor and like him very much. Nurseries - do not know about. Schools - seem ok Shop - no Places to eat and drink seem all Indian. I cannot eat hot food.

Alot of drugs going on. kirklees Council as a lot to do to make this place good to live in. Its an awful place it needs cleaning up it needs lots.

Housing ok. Some nice, some not so. It seems just now that Ravensthorpe is not very nice it is dirty, very dirty and I do not like living here. I come from Emley which is clean. I am not used to this, they do not seem to understand that its up to them to get rid of their rubbish, I pay for mine taking. They put it anywhere and you get rid of it.

In my mind Ravensthorpe was nice about 15 years ago. Its a shit hole now - dirty and if I wasn too old I would be gone.

I do not feel safe on the roads around here. They do not give way, they drive around here. Some are ok, some not. They park where they like and if you ask them to move so you can get your car out you are told to f.... off. That word is used very well around here.

They tip rubbish where they like. There is rubbish everywhere. I have a dog, I pick my dog mess up but someone round here as a dog and there is mess everywhere outside my home and I keep picking it up. Someone round here does not know how to look after dog and cat. I have 2 stray cats two at a time if they get them, look after them. Rubbish goes anywhere but where it should.

feel lucky to have access to greenaway, canal and river paths and country park. I would like the paths to be maintained more ie litter, erosion etc. I have enjoyed the variety of paths in the country park and especially the wiggly ones created in the grass. Spen Valley nature reserve is horrible now, dangerous

Traffic often congested on hudds Rd, so journeys are slow. Getting out of North Rd is easier with traffic lights but the traffic on hudds Rd blocks it at peak times. Lots of cars pull on to pavement at school time and can be dangerous. Parking where I live is difficult as it is not possible to use the garage's as they are not big enough to get out of the car once you have driven in to it.

the green spaces are good but are not cared for by the people who live here. I would not want to use the streets at night, people hang around at the bottom of North Rd making me feel uncomfortable, there was also a problem with the park as well, in fact despite the new play areas its not often a good place to go due to the groups that use it

country park is excellent, lots of seating and I enjoy the ponds. I have seen people with limited mobility and in wheel chairs in that area. Road noise, pollution and loud music affect some of the small seating areas such as the one down north road and on hudds Rd

play areas in the park and at south view terrace are accessible however they need constant maintenance if they are to remain accessible for all. Often a large group take over the park or children access it alone with no supervision so I don't feel confident in my grand children using it some times. Sports clubs are available to children but tend to run on ethnic lines

we are lucky to have a variety of different amenities. Unfortunately we have lost our national health dentist, and the library is currently closed. Gym, bus museum, mosques and church add to the richness

for some of these services you have to go to dewsbury but it is unrealistic to think ravensthorpe can have everything. Community hubs are important, community centre, nursery, employment, schooling, shops, take aways

over the years the area has gone up and down. People however live in groups identifying within them but not as a whole. There are alot of people who do not have good English which is alienating and I do not always feel like I belong

The routes aren't very exciting and can be pretty dangerous to go alone. Although it is somewhat desirable, I don't really know any routes specifically for walking & cycling except for pathways and short alley ways that lead to the river Calder.

Public transport is an easy and affordable service as its very convenient. Although it can be a little confusing to younger or even older people that are newly using public transport for college, school, work or even a trip out with timings when a bus is available. Leaflets of timetables/online free timetable subscription, email would be helpoful for new users/all users .

Answering the questions yes there is safe parking arrangements that allows people to move around. However, recently there has been a few break-ins (into cars) which is very alarming and over-shadows the safety around the community. There is also a lot of traffic around school hours, but that is somewhat understandable.

I have lived here all my life and I have not seen such 'natural spaces', however in the small parks or grass areas there tends to be a lot of plastic pollution.

Except for Dewsbury Sports Centre and Kick off (which are usually targeted at boys/men) there aren't many leisure activity spaces. I'd like to see a penpal group, pottery classes, painting, ourdoor fairs etc.

At the moment this seems to be doing fine. Shops - by the way british postcards are not sold anywhere local (I like to penpal friends all over the world) and its pretty hard to find. If you could sort something out that would be great. This will help my hobby, thats why its important.

Unfortunately there aren't many open jobs as a 16 year old who has left school during a pandemic, there is no places to gain new skills. Not many places offer jobs to people without experience. So, no there is not many opportunities to access good quality work.

The homes in my area do support the need of the community, however, I know a family who have applied for a council house almost 2 years ago and havent been given any form of feedback (in otherwords ignored). Even though my situation is great, others might not be hence the 2.

There are sufficient walking and cycling routes but most are unlit after dark and really only suitable for daylight hours. Routes such as the Spen Valley Greenway are pleasant to use but meander and only go indirectly to most places. This can be part of their attraction.

Buses are adequate but slow as they tend to have lengthy routes as they try to accommodate various housing areas. Buses take well over an hour to Leeds vs 20-25 mins by train. Ravensthorpe railway station is pathetic. No proper parking, no toilets, little shelter from weather and not even a ticket machine, although you are expected to buy one before getting on a train!!

Too much traffic, not enough parking. The roads are full of potholes espcially minor roads and streets, bad for both drivers and pedestrians.

Passing through the area after Mirfield makes Ravensthorpe look a rundown mess. No historic buildings, public squares etc. The gyratory system near North Road can be a puzzle to visitors for the first time.

Some groups of people live in their own private 'bubbles' and seem to live a parallel existance.

Some people have no concept of tidings and drop litter anywhere. Cleaning it all up seems a full time job. Broken down fridges etc sometimes appear in obscure locations. Cannot large items like this be individually marked to that the dumpers can be identified from records.

Ravensthorpe has much potential, it has the greenway, Dewsbury Country Park and Reserve. Many cyclists and walkers take great pleasure using this. As we live very close, we do see lots of rubbish left by unwanted people lurking in cars on Park Road, these are sometimes intimidating when sat in cars, they leave rubbish and are often dealing drugs, I for one see very regularly. More could be done with lighting, CCTV and car park open to visitors during day. Car park to Dewsbury Country Park should be open to people during the day. Cars parked on Park Road stops residents getting in and out.

I don't really use myself but family do. Buses still very much needed and train service is essential for community in Ravensthorpe.

Park Road can be very bad with cars parked at the weekend with sports on the playing fields and Dewsbury Country Park, however these are only there temporary. There is a business at the end of Park Road some where parking cars on the grass vergers, whether they are to sell or something else. Many untaxed and no MOT's. They are unsightly and shouldn't be there, as well as a caravan. Also Lawton's Mill let their collections on wool waste in large containers off and onload on the corner of Park Road.

As I said previous, Ravensthorpe is and can be a very beautiful spot. Cars, rubbish, fly tipping all on Park Road do spoil this. Needs more lighting, signage and CCTV. Nuisance motorbike, moped riders up and down Park Road and surrounding streets and greenway daily and weekends.

Dewsbury Park can be very popular all year round, just a shame car park always closed. Needs to be open during the day, locked at night to stop travellers.

There are some play parks, these do need to be monitored more, cleaned and kept safe for children and pets, i.e. needles, rubbish etc

The shopping park is great and serves local community well. Think shops on main Huddersfield Road should have a standard about how they present and look smarter, some do and are very nice to look at, but many look unkept, dirty and full of unsightly signage, stickers etc.

There is lots of potential in the area, maybe more people taking care of the area and Kirklees ensuring it is kept up to. Flowers, garden areas, fly tipping etc, this would create jobs in the area too. Dewsbury is the forgotten suburb of Kirklees. Maybe a coffee shop

Housing is good, some areas (council) are unkept. On the whole, could do with improvement and more for elderly.

Just needs to be safe, more lighting, CCTV and policing of area. More for teenagers, young adults to do. Stop unwanted behaviours and hanging around on the street corners and in parked cars. Monitoring of this for it to become far less.

Think it would have far more positivity if things were kept nice, feeling of being safe, as there is a multicultural community that is very strong and neighbourly. Improvements would enhance this and make people feel more belonging and part of it. Wellbeing and mental health would improve too, due to a loving and beautiful environment.

This is a main issue, as I have already said. Many men lurking in parked cars, hanging around, particularly park areas, Park Road and near Country Park and Reserve. Many parked cars which caused difficulties for residents, CCTV is greatly needed.

Again fly tipping is a big issue, it gets cleared by Kirklees which is great but by a couple of days it can be as bad again. Move bins, lighting, CCTV warning notices are needed. Can be a beautiful area!

There is a wonderful group/s who care for the area and many other caring people, but this is not enough alone, the council need to do more to stop all this unwanted behaviour, fly tipping, rubbish happening. It has such potential

Only issue we have is in my area for parking anyone parks there. It's a small cul de sac and should be only resident parking. There is also a lot of cars being left and sold there in my area - which I've informed the police before. There needs to be some patrol or CCTV to prevent this.

There should be more playing aparatus for kids in the parks, as for older kids, as they are very small and basic.

I gave 4 because not sure as I tend to keep myself to myself and live in council bungalow which is good for me. So can't comment on variety as I don't know

There's nothing where people can meet etc. only the parks which youngsters sometimes are up top no good. Because of this not many people mix together at all.

There are youngsters buying and selling cars in the streets and up to no good on evenings which I mentioned before patrolling or CCTV is needed.

I would not walk around Ravensthorpe. It is not nice and I would not feel safe. There are intimidating groups of people hanging around, drinking and taking drugs. I would not cycle through it, there are idiots driving recklessley everyday they break all driving rules and there is never a police presence to deal with it. I live on the edge of Ravensthorpe and it is too close.

I do not use public transport so cannot comment other than if I am on a train journey occasionally, passing through Ravensthorpe station does not look safe for lone travellers.

Too much traffic and too many dangerous drivers breaking all the rules daily and you know it, but do not deal with it. It is stressful every day driving through the area. The road humps only damage cars. What we need is POLICE. Noise polution is bad because of quads and loud cars with exhausts that bang and pop.

Intimidating groups of people, ethnic minorities make Ravensthorpe a no-go area at night. There is nothing nice about the place. Deal with some of the unsavoury law breaking people and all the flytipping. Do not waste my taxes on silly ideas.

The parks look ok but the Greenway is just a dog toilet. There are too many dogs everywhere that foul the streets and bark constantly. Health Hazard!

There are too many take-aways in such a small area. We all know they are a 'front' for more sinister, illegal rings. Hardly anyone goes in to buy take-aways and Kirklees give licences out to yet more of these establishments. Kirklees Council should be ashamed of how they have run down the area.

Housing is scruffy in parts and overcrowding of buildings means anymore buildings would be at the detriment of all living in and around Ravensthorpe. The drains cannot cope and areas regularly have to contend with flooding. there is not enough land anywhere for drainage. STOP building.

There is natural segregation groups of people hang around street corners, this is not a British thing, this is a european trait because of the better weather in other countries. Hanging around in large groups outside should be discouraged unless they are children playing out.

Ravensthorpe is the butt of jokes. It is the poor relation of Mirfield. There is segregation amongst the various ethnicities. People do not mix and there are too many people living in close proximity to each other. People need their own space and privacy.

I would not walk alone through Ravensthorpe. There is anti-social behaviour in the form of 'boy racers' dangerously driving noisy cars and quads. I lock my car doors when driving through the area.

Dog mess and barking is intolerable. Some households have more dogs than people. I feel sorry for the council workers who have to empty the bins full of dog poo and I am sick of seeing poo bags in trees, bushes etc. There is flytipping and the council is too slow to collect mattresses etc.

I do not know about the community in terms of influence and control, so cannot comment.
