The Kingdom Established
THE CREATION ACCOUNT IN GENESIS IS NOT ANSWERING SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS, BUT THEOLOGICAL QUESTIONS ABOUT:
WHO GOD IS, WHAT CREATION IS AND WHO HUMANS ARE
o GOD IS THE POWERFUL CREATOR (GENESIS 1:1-3)
o GOD IS THE INTIMATE PROVIDER (GENESIS 2:7-9)
o GOD IS THE DELEGATING KING (GENESIS 1:26-28; 2:15-19)
• CREATION IS INTRINSICALLY GOOD
• CREATION IS GOD’S DESIRED DWELLING PLACE
HUMANS ARE IMAGE BEARERS OF GOD (GENESIS 1:26-28)
1. WE WERE CREATED TO BE REPRESENTATIVES OF HIS RULE (1:28)
2. WE WERE CREATED TO BE REFLECTIONS OF HIS CHARACTER
3. WE WERE CREATED TO BE RELATIONALLY DEPENDENT ON HIM AND OTHERS
I think it will be good to focus on God's goodness and our image bearing of him. it is easy to always focus on sin, but God made us good and we have dignity and beauty as His creation. next week we will unpack sin :)
prayer to believe we have worth and are loved
|nope thank you!|
• GENESIS 1:1-3
• GENESIS 2:7-9
• GENESIS 1:26-28; 2:15-19
• JOHN 1:1-5
• COL. 1:15-16

How should we read the Bible?
ii. Luke 24:44-49
We should read the Bible contextually - looking to Jesus as the center
We should read the Bible humbly - dependent on Spirit for life change
We should read the Bible Communally - with God and others for the world
committing to reading through the Bible over next 14 weeks
sorry for delay on this. i think it is best for this week to just sing songs around Jesus and the cross and not try to find songs about the Bible :) if there even are any
Start at beginning and I will probably have us end around 2 minutes in

|9/11/2019 9:57:57||September 15||Brad Sarian||Why Should we Read the Bible?||Romans 12:1-2 + Luke 24:44-49||Sunday is the kick off sermon for the next 15 week series as we go through the entire Bible together as a church. This Sunday we will be answering the questions, What is the Bible and Why Should we Read it? |
What is the Bible?
The Bible is a collection of books, written by people who were inspired by God over the span of 1,500 years, that tells the true and unified story of everything; focused on how God has acted in History to graciously reconcile His people back to Himself through His Son Jesus.
Why Should we Read it?
1. We should read the Bible to encounter the Author of the True Story
• Worship and Intimacy
2. We should read the Bible to discover and embrace our role in the True Story
• Transformation and Obedience
3. We should read the Bible to help others find their part in the True Story
• Mission and Discipleship

|8/20/2019 18:35:04||August 25||Adam Jones||Struggling With Doubt||ESV would be great please!||I'll dive into some of the main reasons on why we have doubts; and then how Jesus meets us in our doubt (and isn't afraid of our doubts either!) to restore us in the midst of that.||Regardless of the origin/reasons of our doubt we can always bring them to Jesus - and he will lovingly walk with us through that.||Nope! I'll just be closing out the message with a call to take communion! Great to know that you'll have prayer counselors on the side too!||There's a couple quotes that I'd like to share during the preach; here's the order that they'll appear in: 1. “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. ...Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God” - C.S. Lewis 2. “The faith that changes the life and connects to God is best conveyed by the word “trust.” Imagine you are on a high cliff and you lose your footing and begin to fall. Just beside you as you fall is a branch sticking out of the very edge of the cliff. It is your only hope and it is more than strong enough to support your weight. How can it save you? If your mind is filled with intellectual certainty that the branch can support you, but you don’t actually reach out and grab it, you are lost. If your mind is instead filled with doubts and uncertainty that the branch can hold you, but you reach out and grab it anyway, you will be saved. Why? It is not the strength of your faith but the object of your faith that actually saves you. Strong faith in a weak branch is fatally inferior to weak faith in a strong branch. This means you don’t have to wait for all doubts and fears to go away to take hold of Christ. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you have to banish all misgivings in order to meet God. That would turn your faith into one more way to be your own Savior. Working on the quality and purity of your commitment would become a way to merit salvation and put God in your debt. It is not the depth and purity of your heart but the work of Jesus Christ on our behalf that saves us.” Tim Keller, "Reason For God"||Here's the list of passages we'll be going through (in order of when I'll read them): 1. John 20:24-31 2. John 7:5 3. Matthew 28:17 4. John 7:17||John 20:24-3, John 7:5, Matthew 28:17, John 7:17||ESV||“The faith that changes the life and connects to God is best conveyed by the word “trust.” Imagine you are on a high cliff and you lose your footing and begin to fall. We struggle with doubt when we feel confused or let down by God. 2. Our doubt is often about more than intellectual objections. 3. In the evidence for the resurrection and the love of the cross, Jesus provides what we need to deal with our doubt.||Apollo,|

|4/24/2019 14:54:08||NEW ASSURANCE||Eph. 1:7-14||Basically I am going to try to show how we have a deep assurance in this life because of the works of God through Jesus. |
WE CAN WALK THROUGH LIFE WITH A CONFIDENCE AND ASSURANCE BECAUSE IN CHRIST, OUR PAST IS PART OF GOD’S PLAN,
OUR PRESENT IS FORGIVEN AND FILLED with the Spirit’s presence

|4/15/2019 14:57:56||New Identity||Ephesians 1:1-10||God's eternal plan is the foundation for our unshakeable identity and meaningful purpose in life. I will spend a good amount of time unpacking what it means to be IN CHRIST - that we are now represented by Him and empowered by Him. God is clearly (in this passage) the main agent, author and actor in the story called History. He is the one who has a plan and a purpose - and this is good news - because His plan was to make us new by choosing us and adopting us to Himself. The cross and resurrection are the proof that His works in history are for our God and the very reason He is worth PRAISING - which is the entire beginning of Ephesians if there is no cosmic plan - no author - then your life is an accident and your life is meaningless - but if He has a plan -- we have a new identity in Jesus and a new purpose to help others find the same.||All of this is done so that we can be with God - he calls, adopts and chooses so that we can be with Him - Do you want to be with Him?||prayer and communion||I think that is all I have for now :)||nothing else right now. thank you!|

|3/27/2019 15:31:54||The Disciplines: Fasting + Abstinence||Mark 2:18-22||THREE REASONS WE SHOULD FAST:|
1. TO SHARPEN OUR AFFECTIONS FOR JESUS + EXPRESS THAT HE IS OUR DEEPEST HUNGER
-Fasting helps us remember how dependent we are on Jesus and creates in us a clearer grasp on reality
2. TO DISCOVER THE TRUE SELF + RESIST THE FLESH THROUGH TRAINING
-Fasting reveals how immature and sinful we are, yet gives us the opportunity to repent and turn to Jesus for His grace
3. TO REMEMBER THE POOR + SEEK JUSTICE
- Fasting helps us remember the poor and seek to bring justice to those who have no food.
|Gospel application is that - Jesus did a 40 day fast in our place. we cannot add to that, we simply now get to be empowered by His Spirit to find Him as our ultimate joy and satisfaction. |
We are probably going to do a fast for GC night next week and spend that time in prayer and worship

|3/13/2019 16:20:04||The Goal - Prayer and Intimacy||Luke 11:1-13 (probably)||Sorry, this week has been way more packed than it should. I don’t have a ton of clarity on the sermon for Sunday other than this:|
Prayer is not really a spiritual discipline - it is the end goal of all the disciplines - because prayer is intimacy with God. We need to build rhythms in our lives so that we can engage with God more. But we won’t do this until we grasp that He is a perfect father who loves us through the work of Jesus and we are filled with the Spirit who cries out Abba, in our hearts. Our idols will only lose ground in our hearts as they are replaced with intimacy by Jesus.
|Big prayer response for people to engage more with God and a big push for people to pray to Jesus asking Him to tear down the idols of their hearts.||Not as of now||Negative||Eph. 6:10-20|
|3/6/2019 17:18:03||The Idol of Comfort||John 4:1-29||We want comfort, pleasure, and satisfaction.|
God wants it for us too. He offers us fullness of life, real comfort, pleasure, satisfaction and joy which far exceed our cheap forms of comfort, but it will come at a price.
In Jesus' interaction with the woman at the well, we see that Jesus' offer for unending satisfaction and comfort comes at a price.
In the woman's responses, we see our own hearts, and how we often miss out.
Jesus left the comfort of heaven to take on the deepest discomfort and suffering our world has ever known so that we might be offered true comfort.
|We have UNION to Christ by faith. Through our imperfect faith in the Perfect One, we are judged based on Christ's self denial, not our own.|
However, COMMUNION with God (our experience of His love) can change based on our obedience.
Jesus' offer is on the table for fullness of comfort, satisfaction and pleasure in his presence, but it comes at a price. Are you willing to bring your cheap forms of comfort to him?
|God is better, God is good, God is for us. Whatever songs fit that theme||Ecclesiastes 2: 9-11|
|2/27/2019 11:01:49||The Idol of Power||Mark 10:35-45||We idolize power whenever our deepest affections and identity are built on the need to be respected, successful, admirable and great in the world's eyes. Power is a gift that God gives us so that we can bring about human flourishing and reflect His glory - but is sinful when we use our abilities to turn the glory inward and make it about ourselves.||a call for all of us to use our God-given power to influence the world by bringing the Kingdom to bear through our acts of love. The Spirit gives us power to humble ourselves and serve others without our glory needing to be at the center.||Songs about Jesus' power, glory or greatness||negative||i. 1 Peter 5:6 - • Romans 1:16|
|2/19/2019 12:22:03||The Idol of Control||Luke 12:22-34||Jesus wants to replace our anxiety with peace in Him, but to do that we have to look deeper under the surface at what is often causing our fear and anxiety... the idol of control. The desire for control is not bad in and of itself, but when we are seeking it in the things of this world, it leads to anxiety, fear, anger. When we are resting in Jesus’ control & goodness and seeking His kingdom, we find true peace in Him.||Looking at Luke 12:22-34, Jesus wants to free us from idolizing control in 2 main ways: 1. By reminding ourselves of who God is: -He is in control -He is good. (Looking at creation & the cross) 2. By acting in the control that He has for us: - Self control -partnering with Him to bring His control to the world around us so that all people would come to know Him & experience the peace He offers.||No special requests, but as I’ve been preparing the message, the song No Longer Slaves (the one that goes, “I’m not longer a salve to fear, I am a child if God.”) has come to mind. Absolutely no pressure to use it though. Please go with whatever the Spirit leads you to.||Philippians 4:7 (CSB) Romans 8:28 (CSB) Titus 2:11-14 (ESV) Genesis 1:28 (CSB)|
|2/14/2019 9:43:28||Approval||John 3:22-30||Our craving for the approval of others will fade as we grasp the holiness of God and His complete acceptance of us through Jesus.||the cross says that we are truly known and truly loved, which is our deepest desire. we need to have a bigger view of God because sometimes hearing "God loves you" is not enough. because when people have more weight in our lives than God does, his love doesn't seem to satisfying. but as we see his glory and his love together, our craving for the approval of man will decrease. "He must increase, and I must decrease."||prayer response for people to bring things into the light||• Galatians 1:10|
|2/6/2019 14:20:31||Worship & Idolatry||Rom. 12:1-2||Sunday will be much more topical. I will simply be trying to help us all see that we are all continually worshipping (pouring out praise and desire) for someone or something - All the time. Idolatry is whenever we are pouring out praise or desire to anything above Jesus. It will be the basis for leading into the 4 weeks on idols.||Only Jesus is worthy of our continual worship. everything else will fail us, let us down, and never give us the freedom it promises||Singing and Communion||that is all for now|
|1/29/2019 13:32:54||Wanderers + Restorers||James 5:19-20 (one sentence!)||basically James is calling the church to take responsibility for each other. we are actually our "brothers keeper". we are not independents but interdependent upon one another to see truth and need correcting from others because we are prone to wander. a big push for being known in community and giving permission to others to call us out on our sin and wandering.||We are all wanderers + restorers depending on the season - the healthiest we can be is by staying under the cross. only there will our wandering be shown to be nonsense and our restoring be out of mercy and love||I am thinking we have to sing... "Prone to wander, Lord I fear it..." :)|
And a push to communion
|1/23/2019 8:42:44||Saved + Healed||James 5:12-18||No matter your circumstance, bring it honestly to God and one another. Prayer is the main point of the passage - praying whether you are cheerful or sick. and then James goes on to elaborate on how to pray for the sick and confess our sins to one another||We are going to make a huge push to pray for physical healing - so I am still trying to figure out where to do that...||NO||NO||Nothing else at this point|
|1/18/2019 11:49:24||James 5:7-11||We can be patient in the midst of trials and uncertainty, because Jesus is coming back for us in glory.||Rejoice in the Father's patience with us through grace, his presence and power through the Holy Spirit, and his promise of unending peace and joy through the return of Jesus!||Dunno what this means... Kel, do I have one?||Nope :)||I'm reading v7-11 all at once in the beginning, but then going verse by verse, so it would be great if the person can load in the 7-11 chunk, then the following sections after so it stays focused... 7, 8, 9, 10+11|
I will also be reading Psalm 88:16-18 and Isaiah 35:10
|1/8/2019 16:24:06||Not sure yet - But it is about Judgment + Justice||James 5:1-6||God will bring judgment on those who use and gain their wealth unjustly. give it a read. it is a gnarly passage. I will spend time helping us see how we may be pursuing unjust wealth and how to use our privilege and power to bring justice in our world. the text seems to be to non-Christians but I want to use it as an acid test for those who think they are Christians but their lives align with James' rebuke||repentance and praying through how to bless our community.||we may potentially end with offering after sermon to CHF or San Fernando valley rescue mission. still chewing on it!||nada :) thank you!!!||Matt. 6:19-20|
|1/5/2019 5:45:07||Planning + Submitting||James 4:13-17||main point is - If God has not revealed his will, BE OPEN - if He has, BE OBEDIENT. |
this passage says that it is arrogant to make plans without God, assuming that we know what is going to happen, when in reality we have no idea. but there are things he has clearly revealed to us - his commands - and we shouldn't be open about those, but pursuing obedience.
|what plans do you need to submit to Jesus and what areas of life do you need to obey Him in||I would love the song All Glory Be to Christ||negative||1 Thes 4:3-8|
|12/28/2018 13:14:44||Humility that leads to Grace||James 4:1-12||James calls the church to be humble as it leads away from division and conflict and generates grace from God||Are we friends of God or friends of the world? Do we pray for our own comfort or to be more like Jesus? Do we speak badly about others in our community to submit to God's kingdom way of loving others?||N/A||N/A||Please have the following scriptures available in slides:|

1. WHO GOD IS - Jesus
2. WHAT GOD IS LIKE - Gracious Pursuer -
3. WHO WE ARE - Dead orphans living in darknesss
4. HOW WE CAN ENJOY HIM - Adoption through faith in Jesus

|12/12/2018 10:27:19||HUMILITY AND WISDOM||James 3:13-18||James says there are two types of wisdom: Godly wisdom and worldly wisdom. Godly wisdom is driven by humility, which produces peace in our relationships. But worldly wisdom is driven by selfishness and produces conflict and disorder||Going to spend time unpacking how we do relationships. if they are performance driven, they will be chaotic and divisive. if we are peace driven, there will be unity, wisdom and humility||No||No||Matt 5:9 + Prov. 9:10|
|12/4/2018 23:11:16||The Motivation of a Leader||1 Peter 5:1-8||Leaders should be motivated by a love for Jesus and his people not a desire for power, money, or acceptance.||Ordaining Stephen and Jayme Johns onto eldership||Ordination-no back end worship||Nope||1 Timothy 3/1-10|
|11/27/2018 15:33:01||HEART AND TONGUE||JAMES 3:1-12||Big idea is that our words are more powerful than we realize. |
They have the power to cause destruction. They have the power to change our life direction. But most importantly of all, our words reveal the sin that still remains in our hearts. By looking closely at our words, we will quickly see how desperate we are in need of a new heart - of the Word of God (Jesus) to change us into good springs that produce fresh water.
|I am planning on spending a couple minutes at the end explaining why musical worship is so important. Words in music - they shape our hearts and help us remember truth - and we bless God with our mouths, who has blessed us with everything.||Definitely songs on our need and his provision for grace and change. |
Maybe “I believe” by hillsong? Something of that nature :)
“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (ESV)
|11/21/2018 14:20:40||Faith and Works||James 2:14-26||A FAITH ABSENT OF WORKS IS A FAITH ABSENT OF JESUS – AND A FAITH ABSENT OF JESUS IS A FAITH THAT IS DEAD AND UNABLE TO SAVE YOU|
Basically I am going to explain that there isn't a contradiction between James 2:24 and Romans 3:28 (even though it seems like there is a clear one). and then doing some diagnostic exercises to help us examine whether or not our faith is a faith that is actually in Jesus (a working faith) or if it is a vague faith (a worthless faith) that is just in knowing right things, but has no impact on life.
|Probably communion and prayer :) maybe communion on examining ourselves from 1 Cor 11 could be great... and then the reminder of the cross covering our failures.||NA||NA||a. Genesis 21:12|
b. Joshua 2:11
|11/15/2018 15:11:32||Not sure||Mark 9:14-29||Over time, through various reasons, our hearts can become quite cynical... that cynicism can take the form of disbelief (confusion), unbelief (faithlessness) and misbelief (misconception) and Jesus is able to bring order, faith and clarity to the greatest of us cynics... (this is what I Think I’m going to be doing as of now)||Where are you the most cynical? Where do u need Jesus to meet u the most?|
Where are u dealing with disbelief, unbelief or misbelief?
How can the family of Restored LA bring you to Jesus through prayerful and practical support?
|I’ll email u a video I’ll be using the intro of my talk. It’s :13 seconds|
|11/7/2018 11:46:52||Integration: Rich + Poor||James 2:1-13||James reminds us that showing partiality is actually opposite of the love that Jesus talked about and displayed. Yes there’s the natural tendency, as testified to by the world, to show partiality or favoritism to those who can benefit us, while neglecting those who cannot benefit us. But those who have genuine faith in Jesus should not allow the world to affect the way they view someone’s worth. Instead, James encourages us to keenly remember that we were once the unfavorable, until Jesus died so that we could be given his honor. And now through genuine faith in Him, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to love our neighbor as ourselves, which is something the world does not understand.||1) Favoritism blinds us to the grace found in Jesus (vv 1-7)|
2) Favoritism contradicts God’s law (vv 8-11).
3) Favoritism contradicts God’s mercy (vv 12-13).
|You can play at least 1 of these songs please: "So Will I (100 Billion X)" or "All the Poor and Powerless". At the end after praying, I will take a quick minute to say one last thing. So just be prepared to strum a little longer.||In this order: During Point 2 - Luke 10:27-29, 36; During Point 3 - Luke 10:33-35; James 1:27|
|10/30/2018 15:24:54||Compassion and Character||James 1:19-27||Christians have BOTH compassion for the marginalized and character. Most of the time we settle with one or the other, but Jesus has saved us for both.||I plan on making a push to have people acknowledge which one of the two they are weaker in and then give practical steps on how to grow in each.||N/A||Negative :)||Matt 7:21-27|
|10/23/2018 15:29:11||Joy and Trials||James 1:1-18||Trials are the training ground for building intimacy with God and bearing His image in the world. |
trials strip us of earthly comforts, so they make us depend on Him or run away. he brings us joy as we run to Him because He is the source of joy
The goal of your life will deeply impact the way you view trials. If your goal in life is to be rich, comfortable and stuggle-free… trials will destroy you. if your goal is to become like Jesus, you can view trials as a boot camp to becoming like Him!

|10/6/2018 10:03:12||Listening to Self||2 Cor. 13:5||Without listening to self, we can’t trust or follow Jesus. We need to listen to our feelings, thoughts, past, and conscience in order to apply the gospel rightly to ourselves and not be hypocrites.||Prayer ministry||Negative||Negative||Ps. 42|

|9/19/2018 14:34:18||Spiritual Warfare in the Everyday||Eph. 6:10-20||Going to be answering the questions - who the devil is, what his schemes are, how we are called to fight, and what our hope is. I will email you the lead team document - which will be the basis for most of it.||Jesus is victorious and has called us to partner with Him in pushing back darkness and evil!||Prayer response||Ephesians 1:19-23; 1 John 3:8|
|9/5/2018 16:59:21||All about Him or Our Role in His Kingdom||Acts 28:17-31||Acts ends with a "to be continued" - the reason is because the mission and Kingdom of Jesus are still continuing. Acts isn't about Paul, but about Jesus and His Kingdom. Only when we get this good news will we be able to live a life of clarity and purpose and obscurity.||Prayer :) Praying around people finishing well in their walk with Jesus and boldness for Kingdom advancement||no||no||2 Tim. 4:1-8|
|8/29/2018 16:26:32||Something like - trusting and working under Gods promises.||Acts 27-28:16||God is faithful in his promises. Trusting and living in faith under the promises he has made to us. |7/19/2018 6:55:35||A Contextualized Gospel-Message||Acts 17:1-34||Paul preaches the gospel from the scriptures to the Jews in Thes and Berea, and then preaches from a logical standpoint with the athenian philosophers. he adapts the Gospel to help his audience understand it more clearly - and we must do the same||Are you willing to learn how to apply the gospel to our post-truth world for the sake of the gospel?||NA||NA||1 Cor. 1:21-25|
|7/12/2018 14:19:45||A Contextualized Gospel-Life||Acts 15:36-16:40||Basically the Apostle Paul is a chameleon with the Gospel. He becomes all things to all people in order that some might be saved. |
•To the Jews in Lystra and Derbe, Paul becomes a Jew by following their laws, having timothy circumcised – displaying the patience and humility that only Jesus can bring
•To a gentile, god-seeker (Lydia), Paul became a bible teacher – displaying the wisdom and fulfillment of the hebrew scriptures that only jesus can bring
•To a demon-possessed slave girl, paul became an exorcist – displaying the power and authroity that only Jesus can bring
•To a Roman jailer, Paul became a joy-filled prisoner – displaying the comfort and forgiveness that only jesus can bring
I am going to go heavy on what it looks like for us as Christians in LA in 2018 to live lives that change (never compromising the Gospel) based on the people we are with in order to meet people where they are with the good news of Jesus.
|Gospel - Showing how Jesus contextualized in order to save us. Becoming a man who was misunderstood in order to save us. |

|6/27/2018 14:47:57||What is the Church? (yeah... I have a theme going on here...)||Acts 14:1-28||The church is the people of God – who have been called to enjoy the King and expand His Kingdom.||You were created to have purpose. (Being known and loved is great, but without purpose, you will be restless and confused). the greatest purpose is to exalt Jesus together in a community on mission||I believe by Hillsong is always nice :)||• 1 Pet. 2:9-10,|
|6/21/2018 13:54:59||WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?||Acts 12:24-13:52||The Gospel is dynamic and not static. it moves forward! God's church doesn't have a mission, but God's mission has a church.|
Going to explain how we need a comprehensive understanding of the Gospel to apply to people lives. THE GOSPEL IS:
the good news that God’s Kingdom has been graciously offered to everyone who trusts in Jesus’ saving work for the forgiveness of their sins and eternal life with Him as King. I AM GOING TO UNPACK EACH PHRASE IN THERE :)
