4Rider’s Position and SeatCorrectness and effect of the aids6212Stirrups very short. Leg should be more open at hip and knee for a longer base. Rider braces in arms.
31
Further Comments: This combination has a lot of potential. Rider needs develop lighter aids and time them so the horse stretches forward and down, even in working gaits. Extra Feedback to follow.

Hi Points: Horse has a lot of spring and potential for more 8's and higher. Rider has a forward attitude.

Lo Points: Stirrups are too short. The rider's leg should be more open at the hip and knee, so the bottom of her boot supports her balance. With the shorter stirrups, her weight is shifted to the back of the saddle and causes the horses head to be higher and poll stiffens. Aids need to create more downward stretch when indicated in the test.
Also, at the halt, you must take the reins in one hand, drop the other hand and nod. It is an error if you do not. Since I cannot ring the bell and correct you on a video, and the movement is repeated at the end of the test, I can only count one error. Still, those points can count!

Focus: Work to ride with a longer leg and lighter aids, so horse is encouraged to stretch forward and down more.

Exercises: Lengthen your stirrups and ride in two point. Be sure you are not gripping with your knees--that would make you want to fall back in the saddle. With the longer stirrups, you will need to have a straighter posture than you would if you were schooling two point in a jump seat.
Change your rhythm for the rising trot. This is a harder exercise than one would think. You hold your rise for two beats, and only sit for one. So, its "Up, Up, Down, Up, Up, Down." (Don't double the "Down".) It will tell you immediately if you are in balance, or, if your seat is sliding too far back.
Practice giving away your reins at all gaits. Retake softly and be sure that you are not overriding with your seat. Too much pressure in the seat will raise your horses head and poll.
When the horse is more willing to stretch into that soft contact over its topline, your score for Paces will come up as, without bracing , the walk and the canter rhythms will be more clear.
