INTRODUCTION: Welcome to AP Chemistry 2018-2019. I hope your summer is enjoyable and productive. To better prepare you for the year in AP Chem, you will research some online tutorial resources while reviewing some basic chemistry material. This assignment should help you find resources that best fit your needs through the year. This assignment is supplementary to your textbook and will be a great jump on your year.

DIRECTIONS: Watch at least one video (or if videos not available review a topic) from each source and compare them afterwards. Make sure to watch videos on the following topics: 1. Molecules & Elements, 2. Chemical Analysis, 3. The Mole, 4. Coulomb’s Law, 5. Electron Configuration, 6. Periodicity, 7. Quantum Mechanical Model, 8. Atomic Models, 9. Mass Spectrometry, 10. Light & Matter, 11. Symbolic Representations OR 12. Conservation of Atoms. Only use a topic once.

Example: Crash Course#6 Periodicity The Periodic Table Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RRVV4Diomg&list=PL8dPuuaLjXtPHzzYuWy6fYEaX9mQQ8oGr&index=4PT Shows all the elements, both natural and man made. Good review of history of PT. (This guy talks fast.). Elements are not just ordered by atomic weights, but by similarity (state of matter etc.) PT is broken into groups. Families are Alkali Metals (lots of specifics here i.e. soft, etc.), Alkaline Earth Metals, Transition Metals, Halogens, Metals-Metalloids-Gases-Nonmetals, Lanthanides, Actinides, Noble Gases. Periodicity has far reaching consequences. There was a "periodic cylinder". Electrons give elements reactivity, sort the periodic table by valence electrons.7/10. Great review info, but no math or problem solving. Each of these seem to introduce alot of information and be fun but not at AP level.
