Parentportables replaced with permanent structures, building modernizations, and transition to a K-8 school.
Parentreplace portables with permanent structures, transition to K-8 school
ParentI am most concerned about the portables at Glenview Elementary. Although there have been recent improvements, we've been told that they are not seismically safe over the long term. And even if you put the safety issues aside, I don't think portables provide the most optimal learning environments.
ParentMake Glenview a K-8 school.
ParentI do not believe that we need to spend more money on facilities. Any available money should be spent in the classroon improving our childrens learning.
Parentportables replaced with permanent structures building modernizations transition to a K-8 school: If Glenview becomes K-8, our 2 children will stay at Glenview and in OUSD through grade 8. If Glenview stays K-5, our 2 children will leave OUSD for private school after grade 5. We contribute a lot of support and money to Glenview, and would like to continue to contribute to our local public school & district as long as our children can be in this school.
ParentK-8 expansion!!
Parent
ParentAt Glenview, the portables do need to be replaced with seismically sound buildings. But I am opposed to a shift to a K-8 Campus.

Parent1. Portables replacement 2. Building modernization (school was built in 1927) 3. New cafeteria Glenview families have been very active in supporting the Nutrition Facilities Improvement 4. Transition to K-8 would provide opportunities to lose less students (high number of Glenview families move into charter schools or move out of the district entirely) 5. Families residing in the Glenview neighborhood get preferential points toward enrollment in Edna Brewer. Same priority does not exist for Glenview Elementary students who have optioned inapprox. 50% of the student population 6. Add new, academic facilities
ParentBigger cafeteria, need to replace portables
ParentGlenview needs replacement of its portables and more building space to take the school to a k-8 program.
ParentPortable repleacement Building modernization New cafeteria--glenview aggressively supports the Nutrition Facilities Improvement Transition to K-8 facility Add new academic facilities as well as a new cafeteria"
ParentReplacement of portables with permanent structure. New cafeteria and dining facilities for the students. Building replacement facilities improvement that aid the transition to K-8 for Glenview
ParentPortables replacement Building modernization (out school was built 80 years ago) New cafeteria Glenview families have been very active in supporting the Nutrition Facilities Improvement. Transition to K-8 would help support families to stay within the Oakland public school system.
ParentAt Glenview, the portables do need to be replaced with seismically sound buildings. But I am opposed to a shift to a K-8 Campus.
ParentPortable replacement, Building modernization, New Cafeteria
ParentGlenview is a very old school -- showing its age that hasn't been updated since pre 1950s. The school definitely needs updating. The portable class rooms and cafeteria have long past their service period and are falling apart and in definite need of replacement with permanent buildings.
Parent-portables replacement -building modernization (school was built in 1927 -new cafeteria, Glenview families have been very active in supporting the Nutrition Facilities Improvement
ParentWe need portables replaced with permanent structures. We need building modernizations. Finally, we need transition to a K-8 school.
ParentReplace portables, modernize facilities, build new cafeteria in conjunction with nutrition facilities improvements.
ParentNeed for the students to be able to continue on there for grades 6-8.
ParentPortables are outdated and not earthquake safe; these should be replaced. The school is growing in size and there is much community interest in developing Glenview into a K-8 school; school facilities should be expanded with permanent build structures to allow this welcome growth. There are a number of after school programs and community activities that occur in the Glenview classrooms and other facility spaces; again, the facility should be expanded to allow for full use of the facilities for these various community activities that support student success and promote family participation at Glenview.
ParentGlenview Elementary badly needs portables replaced with permanent structures, building modernizations, transition to a K-8 school, and a new cafeteria.
Parent•Portables replacement •Building modernization (our school was built in 1927) •New cafeteria - Glenview families have been very active in supporting the Nutrition Facilities Improvement
Parent
ParentK-8
ParentIt needs improvement to our main facility, our Portables need to be removed or replaced with earthquake safe building.
ParentRemoval of portables and replace them with permanent buildings.
ParentThe portables are outdated and a "temporary" arrangement. The structures should be replaced with a modern building. Any new building could be built to support a large student body, including an expanded student body (i.e., K-8).
Parentportables replacement building modernization new cafeteria
ParentThe portable buildings in the yard need to be replaced. The entire school building was built in the '20s, and although the elegant "feel" of the building is very rich, there are elements which must be modernized. The cafeteria is located in one of the portables, and should be upgraded or replaced.
ParentGlenview is a treasure, a microcosm of Oakland: a vibrant diverse community of families, teachers and staff with a grand but aging facility. Our school needs a bigger cafeteria/Nutrition Facility as well as the aging portables should be replaced preferably with a two story permanent structure. Our school's main building was constructed in 1927 and I hope that it has been seismically retrofitted. If not, then making sure it could withstand a major earthquake is a top priority as the school is situated on a slope withing a mile of the Hayward Fault.
ParentPortables replacement Building modernization New cafeteria-Glenview families have been active in supporting the nutrition facilities improvement.
Parent1. Replace "portables." 2. Modernize the building (my 77 y.o. father was surprised at the physical plant of the school and commented that it looked like the place HE attended grammar school in) 3. New cafeteria, especially as Glenview Elementary parents have been very active in supporting the Nutrition Facilities Improvement.
ParentPortables replacement Building modernization Transition to K-8 New cafeteria
ParentWe'd like to have our portables replaced. We need some building modernization, and we need a new cafeteria. We are also hoping to convert from K-5 to K-8 so our facility will have to be changed to accommodate that size increase.
Parent1. Portable removal/replacement with permanent structures. 2. Seismic upgrade, building upkeep. 3. Purpose built cafeteria in place of current portable cafeteria.
ParentPortables replacement New cafeteria Building modernization Improved walkway lighting
ParentReplacement of portables Building modernization - Glenview was built in 1927 New cafeteria new buildings to move Glenview into a K-8
ParentMain Building is old with some outdated features like old plumbing and fixtures especially bathrooms on lowest level kindergarten class. Auditorium has poor acoustics and sound system, making it difficult to have assemblies and student presentations. Portable classrooms are old and may not be seismically safe.
ParentWe urgently need a new cafeteria. The current one is in a portable and is overcrowded and in poor shape. The classroom portables also badly need to be replaced; they are outdated and kids often experience allergies in them. In general, we need more updated facilities. Our main school building was built in 1927, and the heating system is such that the upper floor rooms are boiling when the heat is on so that there is enough heat in the lower floor kindergarten rooms.
Parent1. Portables replacement 2. Building modernization (our school was built in 1927) 3. New cafeteria-Glenview families have been very active in supporting the Nutrition Facilities Improvement
ParentPortables replaced with permanent structures, building modernizations, and transition to a K-8 school.
Parentupdated portables; main building up to current building code; larger lunch/multipurpose space; updated interior finishes (paint, lighting, flooring); large potential for solar panels and more efficient heating/ventilation systems.
ParentNeed to replace portables with permanent structures. Need to transition to K-8. Need to modernize gym to make multi-functional space, cafeteria.
ParentPortables replaced with permanent structures, school updated, possible K-8 expansion
ParentThe portable structures need to be replaced. The building needs modernization (built in the 1920s). New Cafeteria!

NeighborI understand that there are plans to expand Glenview Elementary to include k-8 grades. Has there been an neighborhood impact study? Specifically, what about parking and traffic. Already, Glenview is not designed for the traffic, let alone the kind the school has adopted since it has become more popular. Traffic and parking are already out of proportion within the neighborhood. Traffic and parking already rouses offensive behavior on both residents and parents alike. Expanding the population will only exacerbate the situation. Also with the added grades, there will be expansion of the population of students in the ages that parents feel comfortable leaving without adult supervision. Is there a plan for having space for these students to to gather without leading to teen loitering within the neighborhood?
Neighbor
Neighbor Enforcement of existing rules for campus. Monitoring the use of the campus. Limiting the use of the campus, given the close proximity to neighbors.
NeighborOUSD seeks to open up use of its facilities to evening and weekends at the expense of neighbors. In addition, it is not actively monitoring use of its facility. Rules and enforcement need to be in place at all of the OUSD facilities at all times the campuses are open.
UnknownThe "portable" class rooms are ancient and need to be replaced, regardless of whether the K-8 plan is approved or not. With that said, I would like to see the change to K-8.
