2. User has a USB thumb drive >= 512MB
1. Prepare the USB disk to be a persistent data store:
(a) Execute a Xubuntu Live session as per TC-DLC-001
(b) Insert the USB disk
(c) From the Unity menu choose System, GParted
(d) Choose the USB disk - it might typically be /dev/sdb
(e) Format the first partition to 'ext2' - it will often be /dev/sdb1
(f) Set the label to: 'casper-rw'
(g) An alternative method, using the command line is: 'sudo mkfs.ext2 -L casper-rw /dev/sdb1'
2. Reboot, and boot from the Xubuntu media, with the USB data store disk still inserted.
When the media first boots, a logo screen with the Xubuntu 'man in a circle' icon will appear for a period of time.
3. When the logo screen appears, press ENTER. A boot menu should be displayed, with a 'Language' menu activated.
4. Choose your language and press ENTER. The boot menu should become fully visible.
5. Press F6 (other options) - a popup menu with options including "acpi=off" should appear.
6. Press ESC - the kernel command line will be visible. Note that the cursor will be at the far right of the command line, just after the text ' -- '
7. Type in 'persistent' and press ENTER. Xubuntu will continue to boot
8. After Xubuntu has started, perform any action that will save your work. For example, browse to a few websites; check they are listed in the Firefox history before continuing.
9. Reboot, with the USB data store disk still inserted, and repeat steps 2-7 above.
10. Verify that your changes have been retained; for example, check that the websites you previously visited are still in the Firefox history.
The changes from step 8 should be retained in step 10.Manualhttps://launchpad.net/~andymc73casper, ubiquityhttp://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Install/DesktopLiveSessionNEEDS WRITTEN
