Seriously I have a lot of things to say. Overall, this sim was pretty good and there were alot less shitty deals this year. That being said, I think there are some issues that need to be addressed. Therefore, I would like to become mod next year to fix some of these things (#vote/u/josh422_2017).
1. Inactivity - We can't have a mod disappearing and then the spreadsheet didn't get updated. Certain GM's were very inactive as well. I think next year more emphasis should be put on making sure that the people will stick around and arent stupid.
2. General Stupidity- Less of it this year, but still... GM's need to have a realistic sense of where their team is at. A team losing 90+ games shouldn't be signing 100+ million dollar, 30 year old free agents and/or trading prospects for older major leaguers with less team control. Also, a team that has the best player in the game and a bunch of expensive players, shouldn't be talking about rebuilding.
3. backloading contracts. I know it happens IRL, but teams in this sim don't have to be concerned with their future budgets. Also, IRL teams backload it into multiple years not just the first year. I think some sort of minimum % of the AAV needs to be in the 1st contract year.
4. Starting Budgets- Contracts are pretty high in this sim. I think that there needs to be tighter scrutiny on teams' budgets. There shouldn't be a standard +10% or whatever it was. It should be based on what the team is likely to do. For example, a rebuilding team with a payroll of 60ish million shouldn't be given a budget of 110 million ;).

I hate to pick my own trade, but it was quite fair and I think both sides benefited. Gordon, Kepler, and Jay will all contribute quite a bit to the Braves' rebuild - like in real life, they get an outfielder, a shortstop, and a starting pitcher, although Gordon/Kepler/Jay is much worse than Swanson/Inciarte/the other one. The Twins get 3 years of a stud young pitcher who can help them compete right now.

Smith is a beast, but I really love Kike.

Ironically, this is by the guy I put down as worst GM, but he really improved after this trade week one.

Davy shed payroll and got good prospects. I like it.

tdoc and deino did great and as a whole all the gm's did well. we can just glance at the sbnation sim and make fun of it and i don't think you can do that with ours. there were bad moves but we did well in the big picture.

tdoc and deino were super active and i don't know what the modmail situation was like but next year making sure more mods are active should probably be prioritized. stuff was posted at a pretty reasonable frequency but someone needs to make sure the main spreadsheet gets updated

next year i'd be ok with being aggressive on replacing gm's. definitely replace people who haven't done anything and are hard to get a hold of earlier than we did this time, and consider replacing anybody who makes a move or two early and then goes awol. it's not fun to replace people but a lot of people are committing a lot of time to this and a few inactive people hurts the whole thing

also this clearly wasn't the mods' fault since they obviously tried with multiple people but an active twitter reporter would make next year better. maybe even have an extra mod just to do that

I didn't hate this as much as everyone else at the time but there weren't many awful trades this sim and after how much the Brewers got for Lucroy, the Nationals got for Strasburg, the Braves got for Shelby, etc. it's pretty clear the return wasn't nearly enough. It's a good sign if this is the worst trade because it wasn't that horrible, but yeah trading Kimbrel/Ross separately or at least waiting until longer than week one would have been way better.

This wasn't bad enough for the Rangers or White Sox to make it a really lopsided trade but lol Nats got Eaton Tolleson and Profar for a year of Strasburg and some randos.

Cespedes contract would be bad but defensible if he was getting paid this much money to be a left fielder but the fact that he's expected to spend at least a year in center makes this really awful. Cespy isn't a 7/143 player and he's CLEARLY not a 7/143 player playing center. Bad

i mean duh. drumline had the advantage of having the clear most desirable team to GM but both made smart moves that didn't kill the future and is also insanely stacked. There were probably "craftier" GMs who built nice teams through smaller subtler moves but he got Kimbrel/Ross/Chapman/Gordon/Severino without hurting himself that much. You can definitely argue other people for best overall GM if you want but this one is a no brainer

I'm not sure why Josh was so eager to move some of his young guys and prospects but he still loaded up on future talent in the Lucroy/Nelson/Smith/Segura deals. Kim and Oh are low risk and could be bargains and future trade assets. Really there just weren't a lot of rebuilding teams and Josh made a couple of trades with massive returns

Yeah starting with what he did gives him a massive advantage and best GM isn't just best team and you can have a world series contender and not have been a great GM but I still look at his moves and the only things I don't like are moving Hammel when he didn't really have to and maybe overpaying Gordon a little but the outfield market in the sim was inflated as a whole so that's not even bad. He's never gonna win a "did the most with what little they had" award but sometimes yeah the guy who built the clear WS favorite without hurting his future much was the best GM

OK first off the real worst GMs were anyone who didn't complete a whole offseason but that's not a real answer so I'm not saying that. BTW shout out to slm for realizing before we started he wouldn't be able to GM the whole offseason and handing his team off to someone else and then going on to be more active as an agent than some GMs.

Now back to tatis. This team is kind of a disaster. They went all out to contend more than anyone else but I'm not sure they'll have more than third place to show for it. Eaton's super team friendly contract would have helped a ton but he got traded for a (currently) lesser player so that they could sign Cespedes to a huge overpay. Gallo I assume will DH but the defense is still gonna be mediocre at best. Melky/Cespy/Cargo is not a good defensive outfield.

I understand trading Robertson for salary relief but not if the end result is gonna be this bullpen. This bullpen is really really bad. I would understand if a bad team just trying to gather projects to trade in July had this pen but not a team trying so hard to contend in 2016. Addison Reed is maybe a passable closer but behind him is something like Mike Dunn/Evan Scribner/Jean Machi/Jake Petricka/Burke Badenhop/Daniel Webb. The rest of the team is not good enough to make up for this.

Other than the main things I don't really get a team trying to win acquiring Segura, I don't understand acquiring Gennett if you're gonna sign Kendrick, and I don't understand signing Kelly Johnson if you're also gonna have Gallo and Valbuena.
