This document is a growing list of super clear cognates, with some completely transparent forms. Words are color-coded from red to blue in terms of clarity and usefulness, preferring more global words over the more specific. The words in blue should in no way indicate words to avoid. They are simply the least clear of the most clear cognates (which are still clearer than most Latin words) considering the English vocabulary of a typical high school student (i.e. a more limited vocabulary of non-native, less-privileged English speakers with lower literacy rates, or kids who just don't read much at home). Thank you for contributing where you can (and please follow style, formatting, and adding words to appropriate tabs), and make use of this list in an effort to make Latin more comprehensible for your students! N.B. As long as a dictionary entry includes a matching cognate at least once in the list of meanings, it's here (e.g. convertere to mean "convert" despite the primary meaning of convertere is "turn around/reverse"). - Magister P
