Introduction to your SIP/ School Profile
(appoximately 100 words)
Mendota is a vibrant and diverse school on Madison's North Side and one of MMSD's first Community Schools. This year we will continue to develop as anti-racist educators by re-imagining and transforming our mindset, relationships, and expectations. We will prioritize Black Excellence through academic implementation and support systems. We will re-imagine our relationships by establishing learning partnerships with focus group students, as well as deepen our partnerships with families to collectively support their scholar’s literacy development. We will do this work by establishing consistent practices for Guided Reading and Math instruction, setting high goals for student growth, and supporting teachers through coaching and consultation.

Our work around reading resulted in an increase in student proficiency and growth goals for all students, including our focus students, as measured by the MAP and PALS assessments. Over the past 5 years, we have made a remarkable 20 points of improvement in grades 3-5 reading, as measured by the MAP assessment. Through our work as a community school, we offered an increase in opportunities available for students to participate in after school enrichment clubs and leadership committees.

Areas of Continued Growth
for Upcoming Year

In order to prepare our scholars to be college, career, and community ready, we will continue our work around equity.
