As a member of the District’s Mental Health Team, the school psychologist is responsible for reviewing and completing assessments based on referrals that are submitted throughout the district. The school psychologist provides guidance and identifies developmental, learning and behavioral needs of students. Utilize the information gleaned to determine optimal support or guidance for culturally and linguistically diverse students. Collaborate with teachers, involve staff, and parent/guardian regarding steps to improve the development of the students as they move toward adulthood. Design and implement research-based programs and interventions to assure students are receiving the most up to date and proven techniques. Act as liaison between students, teachers, involved staff and parent/guardians. Advocate for homeless youth and families to ensure their rights under Title X are followed. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders. Provide support and training to building efforts in multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) for culturally and linguistically diverse students.

Mental health professionals on our team will assess and provide intervention to ensure student success and promote an exemplary education program fostering achievement for all students. Develops and promotes good relations among the school community: parents, staff, administration and other community members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. An ability to perform cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral and academic assessments to maximize student achievement and success.
2. Ability to assess and provide intervention services to students who exhibit special needs and monitor progress.
3. Demonstrate familiarity of diagnostic tools and assessments for students of all levels.
4. Provide school-based, multi-tiered counseling, as well as, social, emotional and behavioral intervention services to individuals, groups, and parents; including ongoing direct services to students with developmental and emotional disabilities.
5. Prioritize time effectively, working with building administration to identify priorities for services.
6. Engage in individual and school-wide safety implementation; including crisis response, prevention assessment and intervention for students at-risk of harm to self or others.
7. Strong communication, organization and planning skills.
8. Demonstrate cultural competence.
9. Adhere to the professional ethical standards and guidelines developed by the National Association of Social Workers, the National Association of School Psychology, and/or the American Psychological Association.
