Will we also have access to be able to send connect ed messages from our home computers? Currently our coordinator needs to go to the school to send it out. Yes, there will be training for school leaders on how to run a meeting using Google Meets. Yes, you will have access to your school messenger system to send out communications to your family. Anything we should update on our website? I'm sure that it will level out once we are up and running with online learning but as we get going, it's not clear to me what we need to produce and what the district will be communicating and when. Thanks!Holding for district communications. Most needs will be addressed in the Remote Learning Site and then anything you haven't received you can communicate to your staff.

If a charter school does choose to utilize the APS virtual learning plan, any communications put out by APS to families will be shared with your school in writin to disseminate through your own communication channels.

5. Our Kindergarten students do not use iReady, can we create alternative learning for our Kindergarten students?
6. Are long-term plans in the works in case this situation goes beyond 4/17?
7. What are the expectations for teacher evaluations?
First and foremost, I want to thank individuals who are working on this situation that is unprecedented. It truly is a monumental task to think about and plan. There isn't a right or wrong way to do this as we will be learning as we go. However, I do believe this an opportunity to look at learning differently, for teachers to add to their toolbox, and for all of us to come together. Many of our students are already behind in comparison to their peers in other districts and I fear if we are only doing iReady lessons, then the gap will grow. I believe our teachers and students would rise to the challenge if we empowered them to create lessons and bring some normalcy to an abnormal situation.Again, this is unprecedented. 3/20/2020 22:59:51Jen Murtha Lansing ECE SupportI am unclear what remote learning will look like for ECE. I am very confused on what GOLD will look like too as that was included in the presentation as something I need to oversee. Any direction is welcomed. Thank you! Hello Jen! MTS Gold observations can still be documented via parent report and even teacher observation during a google hangout (for example if students greet the teacher back with a complete sentence they could document the length of the sentence and vocabulary the student used in MTS gold after the hangout). We are encouraging our preschool teachers to continue to use MTS gold as they will be supporting preschoolers with disabilities and gen ed students. Although there will not be a formal checkpoint for GOLD in either preschool or kindergarten, we are wanting our preschool teachers to continue to use the tool. Progress monitoring in kindergarten can now occur in I ready for both math and literacy and that is enough of an ask on Kindie right now given all the change. Please let me know if I can be of further help and know that additional guidance is on its way with much more content.

3/20/2020 15:34:19Chris CapronMurphy Creek ESS SpupportAre we expecting ESS to meet minute requirements through the IEP? The expectation for special education services is that students receive services that will allow them to continue to progress toward grade level standards and IEP goals. We do not expect anyone to provide services to the minute. We ask for progress monitoring to occur at regular intervals and that services be adjusted as needed based on progress monitoring. When school resumes in a more traditional/tpical fashion, ESS will partner with teachers and service providers to review progress monitoring data for every student and hold IEP meetings to determine the extent to which compensatory services are required for any student who may have experienced a denial of FAPE as a result of this closure as demonstrated by lack of progress or regression.

Also even with the long term sub we have not been able to provide IEP services for all of our students, how does this remote learning work for all students in this situation. Also how do we support students with IEPs who have limited independent computer skills and also have parents with extremely limited computer skills.ESS Consultans and ToSAs will coordinate with the teacher to develop and provide online lessons for students. This will meet the legal requirments for providing services under the direction of a licensed special education teacher. ESS is exploring options for providing alternate activities and other means of access for students with disabilities.

3/20/2020 17:01:31Larry IrvinHinkley HSRemote LearningWill teachers also have access to internet if needed at their homes? For staff who don't have Internet and need to access it in order to support student learning, here are a few options.
-Apply for Internet Essentials from Comcast. https://www.internetessentials.com/
-Xfinity hotspots are available for free if they are located near one. http://wifi.xfinity.com/
-A third option if the above isn't working out would be to contact the APS IT department to discuss other options

3/20/2020 21:22:37Ruth BaldiviaBoston P8Remote LearningAre we able to send home academic guidelines and a note of encouragement in English and Spanish to our families who come to pick up chromebooks. Most of our students do not have computers/laptops at home and this would be a nice way to send home a positive message.Academic guidelines are clarified at the remotelearning.aurorak12.org website that can now be shared in its draft form. The site will officially go live on Mon Mar 30th.

Sorry I think I may have missed this? The guideline is one device per family per school, however, this is at the principal's discretion. There certainly are situations where it makes sense to check out multiple devices to families.

3/23/2020 11:57:28Kelsey HaddockAurora Quest K8Technical/Hardware SupportWill google hangouts be unlocked? We had it locked due to student misuse.Yes, Google Hangouts and Meet have been unlocked for all staff and students. These are the primary communication tools for teachers touching base with students and principals touching base with staff. Google has made tweaks to them that better minimize bad behavior. For example, when a teacher ends a meet, students can no longer linger afterwards, they are kicked out.

Is it okay to use these platforms? In addition, we use RAZkids for reading, Moby Max for writing, and Happy Numbers for Math. All of these are very primary specific and the kids are able to use. Is this okay instead of Google because that doesn’t work for little kids. See communications from LCDs sent on 3/24

3/24/2020 13:21:33Larry IrvinHinkley HSELD SupportWith all of 9th and 10th graders using Edgenuity, how will these lessons be differentiated for ELLs (e.g., ACCESS levels 1 & 2) and for ESSs (e.g., DLC, ILC, etc) for whom Edgenuity would not be appropriate or accessible? There are some supports embedded in Edgenuity; however, this assumes that a students is literate in their native language. To optimize access for students at levels 1-3, the CLDE department is recommending course offering through google classroom so that supports can be provided and accessed by students. Your consultant and TL will have resources to support with developing the google classroom environment. Communication to TLs is going out today.

We will begin having these discussions after we get this plan off the ground. Your suggestion is a good one and will be considered.

3/25/2020 12:39:08Jen MontoyaHinkley Technical/Hardware SupportCan students use their personal laptops for virtual learning? What guidance can we provide to families using personal devices? Yes, and we encourage that! Go to the remotelearning.aurorak12.org website and click any user type (parent, student, etc.), scroll down and you will find at the top of the "Help" section a topic called "How To Use Your Home Computer For Instruction" with guidance on how to set that up. FYI - when a student uses their APS Chrome account, websites will be filtered like at school. This does not hold true if they use Chrome with a non-aurorak12.org account or other browser like Firefox or Safari.

3/26/2020 11:49:45Sue-Lin ToussaintLCDTechnical/Hardware SupportWhat happens for students who are currently out of town but need a chromebook, say, next week? Or new students who enroll? Any student or family who was unable to attend the distribution time this week should contact their principal to schedule a appointment to pick up a chromebook. This was what the draft parent communication said today. IT will still be going to schools next week and preparing chromebooks for these requests. This would apply to new students also - new students should contact their school / principals regarding a need for technology.
