7th Ave SE & 5th St - 7th ave is always full of cars from the apartment buildings and it makes it hard to ever have guests find a spot to park. I think this probably true for most neighborhood streets. Are the huge towers that are going up giving anything back to the neighborhood to help with this?
Some type of reserved parking for residents, whether it's permit parking during certain hours or only on one side of the street. Or potentially some streets that are bike/pedestrian-only. With all the towers being built our neighborhood is getting busier and busier. If we're going to continue to allow builders to come in grant variances for number of floors, then the current residents should benefit in some way. No26-40 years oldBicycling

Problem: Want to slow traffic but stopped traffic puts pollution in the air.
Solution: Enable right turns at stop signs. Have this lane shard with bikes.

Problem: Cars stop at stop signs and cause noise and more pollution in the air when they accelerate back to speed.
Solution: Use roundabouts and incent electric cars and other vehicles.

Problem: Too much crime.
Solution: Increase the number of Minneapolis and U of MN police in the area.

Pulling out onto University Ave. from 5th Ave SE is an absolute pain. Cars are consistently parked straight to the curb and you're essentially turning blindly onto the road.

Speed is always a concern crossing 4th St, but especially near the park where pedestrian traffic is more frequent, it feels like some traffic calming in that area would be nice.

Lastly, I love 8th St. Market as I believe cornerstores are vital to any walkable community, but I wish there was a way to increase public safety in the area. Just today I walked in and it looked like their window had been smashed in. I'm not sure what the solution is here, but I would hate to lose a cornerstore within a few blocks of walking distance.

I am a visitor to Marcy-Holmes, formerly a resident for 5 yearsOnce or twice a monthI do bike, but rarelyOnce or twice a monthStreets / sidewalks are too dark, Personal Safety Concerns, Cars parked too close to intersections, but not just in violation of rules - the design of where parking is allowed currently is dangerous for all users trying to cross, particularly when crossing 4th St. or University. You have to basically get out into the closest travel lane to see if cars are coming.Freeway entrance and exit ramps on 4th Street between 10th Ave and 8th Ave - drivers do not yield to cyclists or pedestrians and pedestrians can be very difficult to see. 2nd Ave and 4th Street - crossing 4th to get to Holmes Park it is very difficult to see approaching cars because of parked cars. 4th Ave and University - crossing University to get to the Expo side it is very difficult to see approaching cars because of parked cars.Bollards on bike lanes should be restored - I don't know if they were removed for winter but I did not see them on University Avenue when walking there yesterday. Vehicles should be ticketed for stopping/parking in bike lanes. Sidewalk snow and ice clearance needs to be consistent and complete - so many pedestrians use these sidewalks and they need to be able to get around safely all year round. Gutter and sidewalk flooding - after heavy rains and/or snow melt, cars send huge sprays of dirty water on to sidewalks, drenching any unlucky souls who happen to be walking there. Right turn on red should not be allowed - there have been several times where I would have been hit both as a cyclist and as a pedestrian by a driver turning right because they were only looking left for on-coming traffic, but I was experienced enough to expect that so I got out of their way. Sidewalk lighting needs to be improved, especially when in winter it gets dark so early, and there is snow and ice to navigate. Cars should not be allowed to park near enough to intersections so as to impede anyone crossing - this is an issue for people in cars, on foot, on bikes, and using wheelchairs. Generally, this neighborhood should prioritize people on foot, on bikes, and using wheelchairs, given the density of the neighborhood, the number of students/University staff who are residents and use bikes/walking to commute, and the attractiveness of walking to destinations in the neighborhood. With its proximity to 35W, many vehicle drivers use Marcy Holmes as a thoroughfare to get to the freeway, and must be reminded that they are not on the freeway yet, so speeding should be discouraged by design. Typically 40mph feels like the right speed to drive on 4th/University because of the wide travel lanes. At intersections with stoplights, I would like to see leading pedestrian/bike intervals so that pedestrians/cyclists can get out ahead of vehicles. I would like to see more protected bike lanes, particularly curb protected that are too narrow for vehicles to park/stop in. No26-40 years oldMass TransitI absolutely loved living in Marcy Holmes for 5 years, and still love visiting today. The reasons I love it come down to density and diversity of awesome businesses and attractions. I did not need a car in order to: visit bars, breweries, and restaurants, get groceries, get eye exams, get massages, be in nature, get gifts, and more. I loved the mix of single family and multi family housing which honestly is the only reason I was able to afford to live there. When I visit now, if I drive I park on the outskirts and walk all around the neighborhood to visit destinations or complete tasks. I would be thrilled to see the area become even more bike and walk friendly!

People drive the wrong way down 5th St SE nearly every day, but the signage indicating it is a one way is not very good. There is a full size stop sign at 5th St SE facing the wrong way! I presume it is meant for the bike lane, but it looks like it's meant for cars so I don't blame people for driving the wrong way down that street and not realizing it. Also, people drive way too fast down the street, especially for a school area with lots of children during certain times. I like the roundabouts in other areas of Marcy Holmes as it forces a slow down. People often ignore the stop sign at 5th St & 5th Ave SE. I do LOVE that 5th st SE is bike friendly, though. I personally feel pretty safe biking down it and there always seems to be bike, foot, skateboard, & wheelchair traffic on our street. Start counting the # of bike users for the excessive number of Bike lanes and you will find out they are not being used. Have you ever conducted a count of the bike users? 41-55 years oldMotor VehicleMarcy Holmes has to have a strong board to protect the history of the first neighborhood. Developers have been cleared to over build and leave card board cut outs of houses virtually or empty holes instead of homes.
People with interest isn preservation should be represented on the board. Not just transplant folks that are here temporarily. Residents should have some property for the years of investment made to the neighborhood that is so valued.

I am a resident of Marcy-Holmes who works in the neighborhoodMore than 5 times a week2-3 times a week3-5 time a weekSpeeding, Lack of enforcement of rules (parking too close to intersections, for example), Not enough parking4th st and 7th ave , The roundabouts down 6th street, 6th St and 5th AveSO MANY! :)
1) The roundabouts are super dangerous! my kids walk to school and cars do NOT look at pedestrians and or bikes when going around the roundabout. We now avoid those intersections because they are too dangerous.
2) The intersection of 6th st and 5th Ave has so many cars parked it's difficult to see if you should enter the intersection (when driving along 6th)
3) We also need more signs warning people that 5th st is a one way (especially near the school)
4) and crossing over 4th street (or university) from any intersection that does not have lights is near impossible to know if it's safe to cross. Cars parked along 4th street make it impossible to see if the street is clear.
5) parking on our block is completely filled. during winter break from the U, the street has been so much emptier, evidence that it's U of M students that live in housing in our area that are parking on the block. Most evenings, we do not have a single spot available on our block for guests coming to our house. Would be nice to have one side of the street be permit only or limited parking time.
6) cars are racing down 4th st ALL the time lately
7) cars have been doing donuts in most of our neighborhood area intersections, can hear tires squealing from inside the house
