7	2.4 School-Parent Compact As a component of the school-level parent and family engagement policy, each school served under this part shall jointly develop with parents for all children served under this part a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards. The school-parent compact shall carry out the following requirements: (20 U.S.C. § 6318[d]). a) Describe the school’s responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the children served under Title I, Part A to meet the challenging state academic standards, as well as the ways in which each parent will be responsible for supporting their children’s learning; volunteering in their child’s classroom; and participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children and positive use of extracurricular time. 8	Through district support, the instructional focus of Wangenheim is to accelerate the academic achievement of all students by implementing a series of reforms aimed at ensuring that all students are provided effective teaching, high-quality instructional material, rich learning environments, and additional time and support to reach state academic standards, should they need it. Teachers and administrators meet regularly to learn about research-based instructional practices. We learn through discussions, observations of practice, feedback, and monitoring. All students, including those with special needs, have the opportunity to participate in after-school tutoring by classroom teachers. Prime Time offers after-school academic classes.
9	b) Address the importance of communication between teachers and parents on an ongoing basis through, at a minimum, the following: (20 U.S.C. § 6318[d][2]) 1. Parent- teacher conferences in elementary schools, at least annually, during which the compact shall be discussed as the compact relates to the individual child’s achievement. 10	Parent conferences will be held upon parent request. Teachers and Counselors will schedule a conference based upon the student's individual needs. Prior to the start of each school year, teachers are reminded of the importance of partnering with parents for the success of the students. The school’s expectations for parent communication are distributed and reviewed.
11	2. Frequent reports to parents on their children’s progress. (20 U.S.C. § 6318[d][2][B]) [Briefly describe or list the activities the school will implement to address this requirement.]
12	Report cards are issued six times a year at approximately six or seven week intervals. Our school year is divided into two semesters. All progress reports and semester report card grades are posted to PowerSchool which is accessible through ParentPortal and StudentPortal. All teachers will use PowerSchool Gradebook so that progress can be monitored by parents and students on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
13	3. Reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and observation of classroom activities. (20 U.S.C. § 6318[d][2][C]) [Briefly describe or list the activities the school will implement to address this requirement.]
14	There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer and participate in their child’s education, (for example, governance committees, special events, fundraising events, parent organizations, and in classrooms). Parents must arrange 24 hours in advance with individual teachers for classroom visits. Parents may also visit our comprehensive website: https://wangenheim.sandiegounified.org/ to be involved with certain committees such as: Site Governance Team (SGT), Parent, Teacher, Student, Association (PTSA), School Site Council (SSC), and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Parents can volunteer as readers, tutors, and chaperones at school events. Parents can attend Shadow a Student Day.
15	4. Ensuring regular two-way, meaningful communication between family members and school staff, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that family members can understand. 16	The school regularly communicates with parents through a variety of modes. Weekly automated calls and emails keep parents informed of upcoming events, the biweekly student broadcast is posted to youtube for students and families to watch, the website calendar is updated regularly and printed notices appear in the public bulletin board outside the office. We also electronically distribute a parent newsletter to highlight important dates, events, and resources. Mailings to homes are often sent in the primary language of the family and staff regularly make use of translation tools including google translate, fellow staff members fluent in the home language and district translators and translation services.
17	The school provides opportunities for the participation of all parents, including parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory students. Information and school reports are provided in a format and language that parents understand).
