Mt. Sinai St. Luke's / RooseveltTight-knit, mid-sized program; pioneers of regional anesthesia; department is insanely passionate about resident wellness and building a sense of community among residents at all levelsNew York City (Upper West Side) –– obviously the pandemic has had a severe impact on current cultural and social outlets, but I think a new sense of normalcy / stability will take root by this time next year. I am still ECSTATIC to be heading to NYC because of cultural diversity, high-risk and high-need population, and my general need to be in a very urban environment.Per residents, you'll finish all your case numbers by CA-2; you'll see and do every type of case between working primarily at Mt. Sinai Morningside and Mt. Sinai West, as well as doing subspecialty rotations at a couple other hospitals in the city; department is on the smaller side, which allows for the development of really strong mentorship relationships; current residents are really happy about moonlighting opportunities and also feel like they get a lot of autonomy in doing casesThe chair and PD are two of my favorite people –– really warm and friendly and very obviously care about the quality of training but also resident happiness. They are very proud captains of the MSSLR ship. The residents at every level are all suuuuper chill and really seem to be enjoying their training. They were absolutely some of the nicest I'd met throughout the interview trail. Two of the chiefs are staying on to be APDs, which says something about how close this department is. I only met one other attending on my interview day, but she also seemed really excited to be working in an academic center / get to mentor new residents. If you want a family feel to your program, definitely consider MSSLR!! Also, we just had a zoom check-in with all the incoming interns plus the PD and lots of upper levels, and it felt like a video chat with a wild, humorous, dysfunctional family. Megan Kawasaki, feel free to text me at (310) 962-9142 or email megan.k.kawasaki@gmail.com --- I'm also so happy to talk about other interviews!

Beth Israel DeaconessHi! Please email me (megan.k.kawasaki@gmail.com) or text me (310-962-9142) if you have any questions about MSSLR or any of the other programs highlighted in blue on your left. The anesthesiology google doc is also extraordinarily helpful.
