Bonspiel Rules

1)       USCA Rules will be used “2016-2017 USCA RULES of CURLING & Competition - Revised Oct 2016.”

2)       Following Club rules apply:

 a)       Please sign waiver before curling.

 b)       Flip a coin to determine choice of last rock

 c)       Do not start a new end after 90 mins of play (based on the last stone released). 100 mins for finals.

 d)       If tied play a full extra end.

 e)       Bonspiel chair will choose the location for the stationary stone in front of the house. This can be changed as the bonspiel progresses if appropriate.

Utica Shootouts

After you play your 1st game in 5th event you will need to do the Utica Shootout to determine whether or not your team gets the bye and this applies to both the winning and losing teams.

Utica Shootout works as follows:

1) Each team member throws a single draw to the button (offensive sweeping only).

2) Each draw receives a score determined by proximity to the pin:

 - Cover the pin: 5 points

 - Bite the button or better: 4 points

 - Bite the 4-foot ring or better: 3 points

 - Bite the 8-foot ring or better: 2 points

 - Bite the 12-foot ring or better: 1 point

3) The team's score is calculated by adding up each of the scoring rocks. The higher the score the better.

4) In the event of a tie, the team with the highest individual score/points wins

5) In event still a tie, each team will throw one additional rock and closest to the button wins

1. Each team shall deliver five (5) stones per end.

Hammer (referred to as “Choice”)

1. The team not scoring in the previous end, shall have the ‘choice’ in the next end.

2. If the end is blanked, the choice shall change to the team that delivered first in the blanked end

3. Prior to the start of every end, the team with the choice shall place their team’s stationary stone, and their opponent’s stationary stone, in either position “A” or “B”.

4. If they choose to place their own stone ‘out front’ (A), they shall deliver first stones in the end. At the start of the game the teams (if no event official) will decided which position A to be used for the entire game.

5. If they choose to place their own stone at the “back of the stone on the back edge of 4-foot” (B), they shall have last stone in the end (Hammer).

Sweeping

1. Sweeper (teammate) can stand anywhere. In other words, they are not required to hold the broom in the house. Both players can sweep.

“Power Play End” - Optional

1. Each team will have one opportunity to use a power play during the standard eight ends, and only when they have Choice.

2. If selected, instead of the standard centerline positioning of the stones, a team with the choice can instead choose to place one of their rocks in the rings, with the back edge touching the Tee Line, and sitting half in the 8-foot and half in the 12-foot.

3. The opposing stone would sit as a perfect corner in position A as determined at the start of the game by the teams (if no event official).
