Access Charts are living documents that are updated as context changes. CostRotate Theatre is offering this workshop series to artists for just a small $20 administrative fee. If the fee is a barrier, a fee waiver can be requested on the registration form. The rest of the cost is subsidized by donations and partnerships that help us provide affordable development opportunities like this one.
7
Cold-ReadingEach week, participants are encouraged (but not required!) to bring in a few pages of writing for the group to cold-read. Participants may read characters in other participants' scenes if they so choose.
8
ImprovisationMost of the work we share with each other will be pages we have written in advance. That said, unintentional variations may occur as participants read work aloud. Also, activities will prompt participants to create on-the-spot, but sharing is never required.
9
MemorizationNo. We will be interacting with brand new material that will not be shared off-book.
10
TechniquesSessions include a rotating selection of activities utilizing writing prompts, tools from other areas of theatre (acting, design, etc), and contextualizing exercises that help us identify and shape the messages of our own developing works. We combine our Rotation Practices with techniques gathered in other settings, including Francesca Peppiatt's Chicago-based "Play For Keeps" program.
11
TechnologyThis is a virtual series utilizing Zoom and GoogleDrive, so it is often helpful for participants to set up their device(s) in a way that allows them to view both Zoom and GoogleDrive at the same time. For best connectivity, participants may find it helpful to close all other applications and windows on their devices. We use Zoom to communicate verbally and visually with each other and we use the chat function. We use a folder in GoogleDrive to share writing with each other. Please contact us for more info or to discuss accommodations.
12
WarmupsEach session includes a brief, consent-based welcome that invites participants into the workshop together.

Access Point PersonThe lead facilitator has experience in access coordination and can be reached via email, text, and phone. For confidential access-related discussions, please contact Rotate to request that the facilitator contact you from their personal device.
27
Conflict Resolution & Complaint PathParticipants are encouraged to discuss interpersonal conflicts and inappropriate behavior with the facilitator who will work to improve the situation moving forward and help strategize to prevent similar situations in the future, connecting participants to outside moderators and resources as appropriate. Participants may discuss issues with any Rotate ensemble member if that is more comfortable. The next step in the complaint path is the Rotate Theatre Company board. If a participant ignores safety protocol or harasses others, they may be asked to leave the session at the facilitators discretion, and asked to leave the series upon approval of the facilitator and a Rotate board member.
28
CopyrightParticipants retain full copyright of the plays they write during the workshop.
29
Identities, Demographics, & Marginalization BehaviorCollaborators are asked to be thoughtful about how actions impact others and how we each have different relationships to race, disability, gender, class, sexuality, age, citizenship, and many other factors. Collaborators are asked to avoid using marginalizing behavior, displays, and language, including ableist expressions and remarks that contribute to sizeism (including self-deprecating comments, size-based “compliments,” comments about exercise for body appearance, and dieting). That said, scripts may include characters who participate in marginalizing behavior and we can think critically about that as a group. And of course, mistakes are made and collaborators have the opportunity to help each other identify and better understand marginalizing language and behavior. We can all use both critical thinking and generosity (with ourselves and others) when mistakes are made, since we are all in a constant process of learning.

Scheduling - Starting / Ending Times, BreaksThe virtual room opens 5 minutes before a session begins. Latecomers can usually join in when they arrive, but in certain cases, the facilitator may close the session-- For instance, after a progressive activity has started. There will be a minimum of one 10 minute break (please contact us for other accommodations). If a session is unexpectedly canceled, participants will be promptly notified via email.
31
