Mortgage ForbearanceGovernor Gavin Newsom's OfficeOn Sept. 22, 2025, Governor Newsom signed into law legislation to help homeowners affected by the Los Angeles fires receive mortgage relief.“Homeowners rebuilding after a disaster need all the support they can get, including grace in light of this incredible hardship. This bill is a welcome expansion of the forbearance agreements my administration secured earlier this year with major national and state-chartered lenders to offer mortgage relief to LA fire victims. Recovery requires an all-hands-on-deck approach, and I look forward to additional conversations with lenders in the coming months about how we can continue to support survivors together.

Home Inventory and DocumentationBevel MadeDocument your home and everything in it. Turn your photos, videos and receipts into a smart home inventory list in minutes. Bevel is a home inventory tool that helps homeowners document their belongings for insurance purposes. We use AI to make the process faster and more comprehensive. Bevel is for homeowners and insurance experts, and was originally created for homeowners who have just experienced a catastrophic loss. Our priority is to speed up the claims process so you get home faster and recover all of your belongings. We do that by providing objective documentation and pricing estimates. After a major event like the Palisades and Eaton fires, insurance companies often ask their customers to create a Home Contents Inventory – an approximate list of items you think you had in your house before the event. But without access to everything, how do you remember what you had?

The tool uses AI (in this case a Google large language model) to extract lists from your existing photos, videos, and receipts, and to make associations – guessing what items relate to the items you add. So if, for instance, you write that you had a "sofa" in the living room, it might suggest more related items like "lamp", "coffee table", "coaster". If you're like me, you'll remember the big items, but forget the massive numbers of smaller things in your house. How do you remember all the items in your kitchen drawers for instance? So you can use the AI to do a lot of the time-intensive work and act as a sort of memory prompt. We also tried to create a friendly and organized interface already set up for you, so that the experience is a little bit less daunting.

The Eaton fire created significant amounts of smoke and ash that deposited downwind from the fires. Air quality measurements during the fire found that the smoke contained toxins.
For those rental housing properties located in unincorporated Altadena: Public Health presumes that they have
been impacted by the Eaton fire and must be mitigated. Therefore, upon receipt of a complaint from a tenant in
Altadena, Public Health will inspect the rental housing property and unit, and order the landlords and/or rental
property owners to hire certified professionals (i.e. Environmental Consultants / Industrial Hygienists) to evaluate
the rental housing property for smoke, ash and soot damage, including the interior of the unit(s) and the building
systems (e.g., attics, HVAC systems, insulation and ductwork); perform testing as warranted to evaluate the fire’s
impact on the property; and hire certified professionals to perform necessary remediation.
For other potentially impacted rental housing properties located near and immediately downwind from the
Eaton Burn Area and within the jurisdiction of County Public Health: Public Health will respond to tenant
complaints by conducting inspections for smoke, ash and soot damage in all exterior and interior areas of the unit
and cite landlords and/or rental property owners for any detected habitability violations and, if there are
perceptible smoke or ash impacts from the Eaton fire, landlords and/or rental property owners will be ordered to
hire certified professionals to evaluate the rental housing property, perform testing as warranted to evaluate the
fire’s impact on the property, and perform necessary remediation.
