Abstract
7
The need for governments to deliver transportation infrastructure in more equitable ways has motivated several decades of research into the concept of equity in transportation. There are many ways to define or conceptualize equity, and Mobilizing Justice is currently in the process of defining these terms for its own work. In the meantime, we sought to explore what Canadian transportation researchers have learned about equity and inequities in Canada’s existing transportation system. We searched 35 academic journals in transportation and planning using the search terms “equity” and “Canada.” We limited our searches to pre-COVID evidence, as Mobilizing Justice has separate project on that topic producing a similar resource. We also conducted searches on google for practitioners’ and grassroots work using the search term “transportation equity report” and the names of various places like “Winnipeg,” “British Columbia,” or “Maritimes.” This yielded 167 items that we have compiled into a searchable annotated bibliography called the “ALDTREC—A Living Database of Transportation Equity Research in Canada.” We call it a ‘Living’ database because we know we don’t have every study out there, and we will maintain and expand on this database as we grow. ALDTERC is meant to be a living resource for advocates, researchers, community members, and government to draw upon.
