The basic building blocks for using and understanding data are: standards (the grammar and spelling of the data world), reference data (fixed, standard lists used in the data), data models (the way the data is organized), business rules (the constraints that real world meaning, plus common sense, put on the data) and metadata (column definitions, sources and other information about the data or its components). The current task is to prioritize work on these five basic tasks.
