14/12/2016Business Cloud UKWOMEN BLAZING A TRAIL IN TECHhttp://www.businesscloud.co.uk/magazine/women-blazing-a-trail-in-tech-from-imafidon-to-russellEveryone acknowledges that the lack of women working in technology is a problem – but coming up with solution is far from clear-cut. According to Deloitte Global, by the end of 2016 fewer than 25 per cent of IT jobs in developed countries will be held by women. The media has a huge part to play in tackling the problem - which is why we tasked Katherine Lofthouse with putting together an inaugural ‘100 Women Role Models of Tech’ list. “The key criteria was women who hold roles in technology and have been actively in getting other women into tech,” she explained. “We’ve listing them in alphabetical order rather than in importance because it’s very subjective,” she said. The list celebrates the enormous contribution that women make to the tech sector.”BK

Back then – and, in truth, up until this morning – a vote for Brexit seemed unthinkable, but it's definitely worth returning to the piece now to examine exactly what the outcome of the EU referendum means for Britain's tech scene, and the jobs that depend on it. I have received a few comments in my inbox from tech business types, but the most interesting so far has been from Ed Molyneux, the CEO and co-founder of FreeAgent (an accounting service for freelancers, so on the pulse of not just startup culture, but also those with less secure incomes). 02/09/2015tech.eu‘Queen of Startups’ Bindi Karia leaves Silicon Valley Bank to help European founders in different wayshttp://tech.eu/brief/bindi-karia-leaves-silicon-valley-bank/Bindi Karia, a longtime fixture in the European tech scene (although she was actually raised in Canada!), left her role at Silicon Valley Bank last week "to pursue new entrepreneurial opportunities". As a Vice President based in London, Karia helped shape Silicon Valley Bank's early-stage banking efforts in Europe, with a relatively recent focus on corporate and emerging VCs. Before joining SVB in late 2012, Karia spent a few years at Microsoft UK as its ‘Venture Capital/Emerging Business Lead’. I had a brief conversation with Bindi to see what comes next, but she said it was too soon to discuss her plans in a lot of detail, only that she will stick to her passion for entrepreneurship and helping out early-stage businesses, particularly when it comes to connecting startups with VCs and corporates. One thing is for sure: there's no chance she's departing the European startup ecosystem, so stay tuned.BK

The reaction to a recent episode of my video series Digital Futures, entitled ‘What it’s really like to be a woman in tech’, genuinely caught me by surprise.
