Teachers, that are of older age, or at risk should remain home until they can return safely. It has been noted by the CDC that children are at very little risk from Covid, it does not spread easily on surfaces, and asymptomatic people do not spread the virus.

I would not want to subject my child to that plus having to abide by all the other CDC guidelines while at school if they had to go to school for the amount of time that they would normally go for. It was not healthy or helpful for anyone...Remote learning is not posting assignments and having parents help children complete. Remote learning is engaging with children via an online component...whether that is zoom, Skype, FaceTime. The education gap will continue to grow if learning was handled the way it was in the spring. Asking kids without internet or computers to drive to a campus and sit in the parking lot is not a solution. If the summer is filled with sports, baseball, tennis...and then you go back to no school...you will socially crush our children....and the school’s chance of ever earning trust and support in this community. If it is going to be instruction...there should be a teaching component. We had virtual assignments posted to a platform with occasional check-ins. We do not fault the teachers...but if that is the plan moving forward...the administration has significant work to do to educate teachers on “how” to teach remotely...remote instruction should be instruction. If that can’t be achieved....send home a packet of documents and ask them to be returned at the end of each week...and save us from the multitudes of passwords, platforms, and busy electronic work that not everyone can access. Our community is already skeptical of our school system...not opening when colleges are open and students are living on campus...seems ridiculous. Especially in a community where there is little to no cases of the virus. Not being taught by the parents. Our son should receive reading instruction for dyslexia. He received no additional help or instruction...and has not since school closed in March. No one even checked with us to see if there was a way to skype, zoom...offer alternatives. Nothing. All students should be given a laptop/chrome book. Most households with multiple children do not have computers for each child...and it does not work to have kids use iPhones or iPads. The platforms used were cumbersome at best. Required multiple passwords, logins...and were completely one-sided...no interaction. Our educators did not attend school to learn to teach remotely...and our parents are not trained to be teachers. Remote learning in the form that was offered last spring does not work and is not a long or semi-long term solution. If the parents feel comfortable sending the kids they deserve to receive an education. If there is staff with compromised immune systems, they can be the ones that work with the kids that choose to stay at home and do distance learning. We need to find a way let the kids come back to school that want to come back. I get that we need to look out for those that are vulnerable, and perhaps they need to stay at home and be provided with distance learning. But the last time I checked we still live in the USA home of the free. If the parents feel safe letting the kids return, I feel that they deserve to be able to come back and get their education. This is not a knock on teachers who were thrown to the wolves overnight to pull something together. They did outstanding considering the circumstance. It is just hard to replicate the classroom when parents are also working.
