How would you define or describe "gender" based on your reading of the text this week?

Feminism is wanting men and women to be treated equally. Women have always been treated like they were inferior to men purely because they're women. They're seen as weaker or not as hard-working, therefore, they get paid less & treated terribly in some situations.
I would describe gender as a construct. Your gender doesn't have to be based on the one that you were born with. It's all based on who you want to identify as and no one has the right to tell you differently about how you want to be perceived.

Feminism, like the Bechtel Test, challenges media's portrayal of traditional gender norms and how women are sensationalized for sex. This ultimately has demeaned the general perception of how women should look and act in their respective cultures. Through tactics of social change, feminism has attempted to change the way media is subjugating the position of women in society.
Gender is demonstrated in the media by confirming traditional societal norms in respective cultures. Most of the time, women are trivialized in positions of power and are both celebrated and condemned for their sexuality. Men are taught to desire themselves to be strong, well-built, leaders, and providers. These norms are perennially mediated through different formats and thus drilled into the minds of the general public from all angles.

Feminism started off as purely an empowerment movement towards women, from women, to reject societal standards towards women. However now, feminism has changed into many different subcultures to fit and benefit many different means; feminism has moved into an age of 'self-benefit' and 'falsified empowerment.'
The concept of gender is constantly changing, as now gender is described as much fluidity, however the challenge between gender norms and gender fluidity remains to exist. Where their exists gender acceptance and intersectionality, there also exists 'hyper-masculinity,' or 'hyper-feminism,' where such two terms are used to promote set standards for 'each' gender.

I would describe feminism as the fight against a patriarchal society and the fight for women’s equality in several areas where there are disparities in fairness.
Gender is basically an extension of identity. Gender is the way one expresses themselves and can be typical or atypical to the traditional gender binary. Gender can be expressed in a multitude of ways.

I would describe feminism as a movement that fights for equal rights between men and women. Feminism advocates for women to be taken seriously and treated equally in all aspects but especially within the media and workplace.
After reading the text on gender this week I would say that gender is a term that has been modified in recent years. Gender often times has stereotypes within the media but recently those stereotypes have started to shift and gender has a more broad and fluid meaning that is more inclusive to people of all races and sexual orientations.

Feminism can be described as the push back against sexist stereotypes and the fight for equality for women in all aspects of life.
Gender can be described as part of one's sexual identity, and not necessarily a biological difference of male or female.

I would describe feminism as the fight to have equal positions in all of the places in which media takes place. There have been advances made for equal positions but positions that have been used to fulfill stereotypes.
I would describe gender as the way people identify between the two sexes. In media the people who are Cisgendered receive the most benefits in terms of opportunity.

Feminism is the concept of equality for both men and women. The text illustrates the barriers that women have had to overcome in a male dominated media industry. Feminism also represents inclusivity for all kinds of women and fights the stereotypes that the media continues to portray.

Feminism is the movement which works to redefine the portrayal of women in media and society. Feminists works to enhance the perceived standards of women, their presentation and overall role in society to be adequately matched to their true abilities.
I think that gender is driven by many stereotypes that have developed over time but in the recent years, media has strayed to find a way to allow multiple genders to coexist within the same sections of media. Gender is a foundational part of identity, and must be expanded beyond traditional media’s portrayal to a new, broader representation.

Try to help women get rid of stereotype and be themselves.
A classification coexist with many social elements defined by subjectivity.

Through the reading of the "feminism" text, they write about the various media forms and their impact on feminism. It states that romance novels and soap operas "helped keep women in their place", they related women to being melodramatic and promulgate patriarchal values. Filmmakers continued to use racists and sexist roles for women of color and white women. These roles in media confirmed the role women had in society; however, women did not agree nor tolerate these roles. Even today women continue to hold their own and play the role that they want to have in society.
Throughout the reading of the "gender" text, the recurring theme of the male and female body and how it is viewed by others through media. Through the use os media, male body images are being changed to represent the 'perfect' male image; however, they are realistic. In addition, they continue by explaining that "men look and women appear", creating a sexual objectification of both genders. While gender is a continuously discussed topic, neither gender is superior or has more power over the other, we are all equal.

Based on the reading of the text this week, I would describe Feminism as a lens through which to better understand the world and it’s treatment of those who are female presenting. It is a critical lens through which we can not only better understand the world and our various biases and interlocking places in it, but also a movement for change in order to create a more equitable world despite these structural issues.
The text mostly looked at gender as a binary within which people fall into two groups and focused on gender mostly from a cis point of view. Ultimately, gender is an important part of identity in general as well as an individual's intersectional identity and the text also pointed out the influence of queer theory when discussing gender and thus did not entirely focus the conversation on a cishet understanding of gender.

gender is identification between the different sexes and also identifies with a biological concept

To me, feminism is about women’s freedom. Something that is often forgotten is that for this freedom to truly exist, men must also be free. When I say freedom, I mean freedom from the historical and cultural expectations of patriarchy that limit both women and men.
The text made me consider how gender is a facet of identity that exists purely as another thing to be advertised or advertised to. For example, marketing to men involves affirming their masculinity, whereas marketing to women attempts to both empower and subtly say "you're not good enough, but (insert product) can help!"

I would describe feminism as the advocacy being done to fight for equality amongst genders.

Feminism is the belief that men and women are equal, rather than women are better than men. Sexism and discrimination against women exists in almost all aspects of life (employment, education, homes, relationships) because our society is structured around the patriarchy.
Gender is the range of characteristics between male/female/more, usually considered in reference to social or cultural differences, rather than biological differences. In recent years, there has been lots of shifts in the openness to men/masculinity and queer theory.

Although the ideologies and practices of the feminist movement have certainly changed over time, the basic idea behind feminism is striving for equality of the sexes. Feminism takes many different forms, ranging from the actions of individuals, political movements, and social movements both in the media and in person.
As complex as it is, gender can be loosely defined as the identifier for sexes, both biologically, socially, and culturally. Because gender exists on a spectrum, referring to it as the defining identifier for only the male and female biological sexual orientations is inaccurate.

Feminism is the equality between men and women. Specifically, in media, women were portrayed as only sexual objects. On the contrary, men were portrayed as strong leaders or heroes, and only men had leading roles in film. This difference promoted sexist representations of women as well as discrimination against females due to this idea of the domination of men over women. Family roles have also been emphasized in cinema. We can see this all throughout media when the man of the house leaves for work when the mother stays home to take care of their children. The feminist movement allowed for people to question how women were being portrayed in the media and if this portrayal was right.
Gender is one's definition of themself. Since the term "gender" was previously only based off of the gender you are assigned at birth, problems arose when the media wanted to portray people who are not only cisgender. Toxic masculinity is another topic throughout media that promotes the idea of how men should act. Overall, the media has made all people feel that they have to fit into a certain category. This excludes everyone who does not appear to be "normal" because of how they act or define themself.
