| Overview: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Strengths: | Notes: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Hands | Reliable hands with only one drop on the season. His contested catch rate is poor (36.36% in 2023), but this should improve with physical development and his ability to make hands catches far outside of his frame look easy.
| Mid Route Acceleration | He has some reps showcasing incredible mid route acceleration that he can use to pull away deep.
| Potential | Some of his routes are incredible showcasing the ability to catapult all 6'4, 196lbs of him in any direction with suddenness to manufacture intermediate separation. Although many of his reps are rather unimpressive, he has the flashes that would make any coach excited. Throughout the season, he improved his release, foot speed, and separation at his first break. Mitchell has improved enough in recent games to suggest that he will be a better pro than college player.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Weaknesses: | Notes: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Run After Catch | He does not do much with the ball in his hands.
| Release Footwork | His release improved drastically throughout the season, but he still has highly inconsistent footwork. If his footwork can be fine tuned, then he could be dangerous at all levels of the field.
| Effort | He takes too many reps off, is a poor blocker, and does not appear to try and separate as much on plays where he is not the first read. This improved throughout the season, but is still worth noting.

| Game | Takeaways | Notes:
| Kansas (09/30/2023) Statline: 10-141-1 | Appropriate pacing into zone. Dropsteps frequently. Looks a bit slow off the line. Lacks suddenness in movements. Adequate break footwork. Not a creator. Mostly rounded routes. Vanilla releases throughout the game. More crisp dig from the slot despite questionable footwork. Does not pull away or accelerate mid-route. Great pluck over middle. Sure hands. Rounded cuts, even on shorter routes. Hasn't shown anything too unique or special throughout this game. Highly disappointing for such a dominant box score. | Day three tape (5th round). Lacks burst, footwork, physicality, creativity, and overall route running knowledge and refinement needed to be a starting NFL wide receiver.
| Kansas State (11/04/2023) Statline: 8-149-1 | Slow release with large counter-movement. Mid route acceleration. Takes some reps off. Not strong after the catch. Big, soft hands. Surprisingly good mid route acceleration. Poor downfield coverage, but he does still pull away deep. Incredible hands. Mostly a linear threat. Lag on false moves with poor lateral agility and foot speed. Better quickness on some reps than others. Not a good blocker. There are some really strong reps sprinkled throughout his tape in between many bland reps. Has the lateral acceleration and burst for a good break, but it is not seen often. Maneuvers the sideline well. Intermediate separation is inconsistent. | Project with high upside as a deep threat, but definitely needs a lot of coaching. Early third round grade. Running with more fervor than earlier in the season.
| Oklahoma State (12/02/2023) Statline: 6-109-1 | Great linear acceleration. Debatable push off, but effective out route. Inefficient release steps are lessened. Reliable hands catcher. Excellent false move on slant. Foot speed upon release appears more impressive than earlier in the season as well. Hips are sinking more on split release. Poor blocker. Excellent hands catch with an outstanding catch radius. Staying impressively low on his cuts. | First round caliber athlete. Early 2nd grade. Major improvements throughout the season regarding footwork, game knowledge, release, and even physically.

| Attributes | Grade / 100 | Notes
| Separation | Short | 68 | Definitely a work in progress, but improved significantly throughout the season.
| Medium | 71 | This may be generous, but again, it improved throughout the season.
| Deep | 84 | Could be considerably higher based on flashes.
| Release | Stance | 70 | His narrow stance often leads to inefficient footwork.
| Acceleration | 87 | Linear acceleration could be significantly higher, but he must continue to work on his lateral acceleration.
| Footwork | 79 | Hip depth and foot placement have improved, and could become legitimate strengths with some additional experience.
| Hands | Catch reliability | 95 | Six drops his freshman season at Georgia with only 29 receptions, but only one drop since with impressive hands on tape.
| Catch radius | 93 | Listed at 6'4 at Texas, it was disappointing to see him only come in at 6'2" at the combine. That said, he has long arms, is highly explosive, and has great hands away from his body.
| Contested catch | 48 | This really should improve based on his other attributes.
| RAC | Athleticism | 96 | Ridiculously athletic, as he proved at the combine.
| Agility | 73 | He displays reps with decent lateral burst, but does not use it much in the open field or on a play by play basis.
| Contact balance | 42 | Goes down too easily for his size.
| Blocking | Technique | 20 | He does not know how to block, and doesn't want to learn.
| Willingness | 20 | He often appears as if he is going to block, then allows defenders to slip right past him without making any contact.
| Coverage | Press | 71 | He has moves to defeat press, but must refine these moves. He also seemingly jogs on many plays, allowing himself to be blanketed throughout the route.
| Off | 72 | Has room to grow when finding the open space.

| Final Scouting Report
| Adonai Mitchell is one of the most raw, intriguing prospects in this class. His early season performance warranted a day three pick at best, but his improvements throughout the season have left him deservedly in the first round conversation. After only accumulating 38 receptions in his two years at Georgia, AD Mitchell transferred to Texas and immediately stepped in as their number one receiver. Early on, his release was sloppy and gave him no advantage, his route breaks were rounded, and his overall game sense was clearly lacking. By the end of the season, the 6'4 athletic monster was leaving cornerbacks in the dust off of his split step releases, bursting off the line with significantly more power, and cutting with more precision throughout his breaks than he was just a month or two earlier. His movement skills and ability to sink his hips and propel off of either foot is highly impressive for his height. He may not win at the catch point as often as he should, but his reliable catch radius is phenomenal. Mitchell will still be 20-years-old to start his rookie campaign, and has the athleticism, size, speed, and hands to become a dominant alpha wide receiver in the NFL. His early season tape may have suggested that he sit for a while or return to school, but the amount that he improved throughout the season in every aspect of his game would suggest that he will become an even better pro than he was in college.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Playstyle | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Best Route | Out & Up. His mid-route acceleration down the sideline in combination with his hands and size make this route extraordinarily difficult to cover. If he has a quarterback who can reliably make the difficult deep boundary throw, then AD Mitchell will light up defenses with this route at the pro level.
| Worst Route | Whip Route. Lacks the suddenness and consistent release to run complex routes close to the line.
| Pro Comparison | DJ Chark. Mitchell has better hip fluidity, but Chark was more refined deep threat coming out of college.
