School Counselors-Start With Hello Week
Daily from 9/23 -9/27The “Start With Hello” week stemmed from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, United States, when 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members.

The incident was the deadliest mass shooting at either a high school or grade school in U.S. history and the fourth-deadliest mass shooting by a single person in U.S. history.[a] The shooting prompted renewed debate about gun control in the United States, including proposals for making the background-check system universal, and for new federal and state gun legislation banning the sale and manufacture of certain types of semi-automatic firearms and magazines with more than ten rounds of ammunition.

The “Start With Hello” violence Prevention Program was started because it is believed that the shooter, Adam Lanza, was socially isolated. This isolation is preventable with your help!

At BMS we will work towards ending social isolation by having daily activities.

On Monday, September 23 we will Start with Hello
Teachers will greet students in hallways and at main entrances and homeroom door with a “HELLO…!”

Tuesday, September 24 will be Random Acts of Kindness Day
Random Acts of Kindness “Tear Off” idea sheets will be posted throughout the building to encourage students and faculty to conduct random acts of kindness throughout the day!

Wednesday, September 25 is Wear Green Day
Wear green to show support for the Sandy Hook Community and honor lives lost to gun violence.

Thursday, September 26-Thank A Teacher Thursday
Students are encouraged to visit the “Thank A Teacher Table” during lunch. Paper will be provided to write a quick note to a teacher or staff member that students would like to thank! Students can drop their note in the mailbox provided and we will take care of delivering later that day.

Friday, September 27 is Flexible Friday
Today staff and students are encouraged to mingle at lunch and eat with someone new!

10/10/2019 14:41:04Jaime PoirierSchool Counseling Office10/21 and 10/22Hellloooo Eagles! Guess what tomorrow is? That's right-UNITY DAY
Here are some things we want you to remember for Wednesday. First, wear orange! Your teachers and staff will too! Extra points if you can get your parents to wear orange! The most important thing to remember is that we are celebrating kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Every day is a new opportunity to wake up and ask yourself, how am I going to be kind today? How am I going to include others at lunch or at group work? That's what Unity day is all about. See you all in your orange Wednesday!
