Summer 2020 Grades

Opting for Pass/No Pass grading on your ACC courses may impact your future transfer. We encourage you to finish the semester strong: try your best and utilize ACC resources aimed at helping you succeed in this new virtual environment. A list of these resources can be found at https://www.austincc.edu/coronavirus/resources

Here are some questions to consider when deciding if Pass/No Pass is the best choice for you. We encourage you to speak with your academic advisor - they can help you decide what's best for your situation. What is your expected/earned grade in the class? Have you spoken to your instructor about your progress in the course? Are you planning to graduate from ACC? When are you planning to transfer? Are you applying for a competitive program? Is this course required for entry into your major? Is this course major specific (ex. is this a biology course and you are majoring in biology)? Is this course a prerequisite for other courses in your major? What was your GPA before this semester? Will your GPA increase or decrease based on the information provided by the university? Are you applying to a program/school that utilizes holistic review for transfer applicants? Are you planning to apply for a professional school after undergrad? Are you currently a student at a 4-year and taking summer classes with ACC? If so, verify with your academic advisor to see if they require a letter grade for the classes you are enrolled in.

FAQs
20
What is Pass/No Pass?Pass/No Pass is being offered to ease concerns around the transition to online classes for both Spring and Summer 2020 courses. You can select PASS at ACC if you have earned an A, B or C in your course. You can select NO PASS at ACC if you have earned a D or F in your course. You can make this decision after knowing what your course grade is. After grades are submitted, students will have from August 14 at 12:01 a.m. through August 21 at 11:59 p.m. to opt in to change their grades the Pass or No Pass grade option for the summer 2020 semester.

22
How do I calculate my GPA? Your grade point average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the total amount of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted. Your grade point average may range from 0.0 to a 4.0. An A is worth 4 pts per credit hour, a B is worth 3 points a credit hour, a C is worth 2 points a credit hour, a D is worth 1 point per credit hour, and an F is worth zero points per credit hour. Here is a online GPA calcuator that can help you calculate your GPA: https://gpacalculator.net/college-gpa-calculator/
23
24
How will ACC calculate a Pass/No Pass in my GPA on a repeated course? All grades for repeated courses appear on the transcript. An asterisk (*) by a course grade on your ACC transcript indicates that the course has been repeated. In general, when non-Developmental Education courses are repeated, only the highest grade earned will be used in calculating the grade point average. A P will replace the grade points of ANY grade earned in a previous attempt of the same course. When a previously earned grade is replaced, the credit hours earned for it will be zeroed out, but the hours will still be reflected in the attempted credit hours.
25
26
What do you mean when you say a P is neutral but will still count toward my credit hours but not my GPA?A P does not equate to a grade so it can't be included in calculating your GPA, but you'll still have those completed hours on your transcript. So, if a university requires you to have 30 completed credit hours in order to apply as a transfer student, the course hours you earned with a P in will count toward the required credit hours.
27
28
Why is the GPA a university calculates for my transfer application different than my ACC GPA?Universities calculate applicant GPAs using different methods when reviewing your application. Some schools will replace grades, some will not. It's best to verify with the university what their method is. Advisors and Career and Transfer Specialists are also available to help you with this.
29
30
When is the deadline to withdraw from my ACC spring class(es)?Withdrawal deadlines for the summer semester vary on the length of course you are enrolled in. View dates at https://www.austincc.edu/students/registration/important-dates. More information on ACC's Withdrawal policy can be found at https://www.austincc.edu/students/registration/withdrawals
