Rensselaer Orchestra (Arts 2300 / 1 credit):

- All students (new and returning) wishing to take Orchestra are required to audition. As there is a limited number of seats for wind and brass players, auditions for these seats may be particularly competitive. Past participation in orchestra does not guarantee a seat in a subsequent semester.

- Please prepare

- a short (2-3 min.) solo piece demonstrating your current ability,

- the following major scales (concert pitch) AND each relative minor: G maj, E-flat maj, D-flat maj, B maj

in either 2 or 3 octaves, as is appropriate to your instrument

- Only students who have not previously participated in Chamer Music are required to take an audition.

- For students wishing to participate in both Chamber Music AND Orchestra, only ONE audition is required.

- Please prepare a short (2-3 min.) solo piece demonstrating your current ability, and major & minor scales in 2-3 octaves (as is appropriate to your instrument).

- Please note that many ensmebles continue in the course from semester to semester. For students entering the course for the first time, I make an effort at the first class meeting to situate students in ensembles of an appropriate level, but the constitution of these ensembles is dependent on course enrollment. Students are encouraged to attempt to form ensembles that align with their interests prior to the first class meeting.
