I’m Michael, I’m Brenden.
Join us and together we’ll dig deeper into the silver-screen classics of yesteryear as well as the box-office hits of today, we’ll take a closer look at the stories they tell, and see if we find the face of Jesus looking back.
We’re gonna explore the deeper meanings of these films; the plots and their twists; the characters and their choices; and how we can relate them to the gospel of salvation, and ultimately our Christian walk.
You are tuned in to Finding Christ in Cinema on the GCTNetwork.

|Brenden: The editors of this film missed the mark when they left out a crucial scene between Captain Jack Sparrow and Lord Cutler Beckett (amongst several others scenes).||PS Ron Poteet: It was cut so that the parts in PotC 5 would mesh with the storyline better :)..|

The Movie Wasn’t Supposed to Be in English
For a better sense of reality, Spielberg originally wanted to shoot the movie completely in Polish and German using subtitles, but he eventually decided against it because he felt that it would take away from the urgency and importance of the images onscreen.
According to Spielberg, “I wanted people to watch the images, not read the subtitles. There’s too much safety in reading. It would have been an excuse to take their eyes off the screen and watch something else.”

I go to work the other day. Nobody’s there. Nobody tells me. I have to find out. I have to go in. | No, no. They’re not gone. They’re here. | They’re MINE! Every day that goes by, I’m losing money. Every worker that is shot costs me money. I have to find somebody else. I have to train them. | We are going to be making so much money that none of this is going to matter. | It’s bad business.
[Sniff] [Footsteps] [Pouring] Thank you. | Leave the bottle. Take that. Lean...thank you.
Scherner told me something else about you. | Yeah? What’s that? | That you know the meaning of the word “gratitude” - that it’s not some vague thing with you like it is with others. You want to stay where you are. You’ve got things going on the side. Things are good. You don’t want anybody telling you what to do. I can understand all, you know. I know you. What you want...is your own sub-camp.
Do you have any idea what is involved? The peperwork alone? You’ve got to build the ******** thing. Getting those ******* permits is enough to drive you crazy. Then the engineers show up, they show up and argue about drainage, foundations, codes, exact specifications, fences four kilometers long, 1,200 kilograms of barbed wire, 6,000 kilograms of electrified fences, ceramic insulators, three cubic meters of air space per prisoner. I’m telling you, you’ll want to shoot somebody. I’ve gone through it. I know. | Well, you know. You’ve gone through it.
You could make things easier for me. I’d be grateful.

You can be merciful.
You are a good man.

The Good Samaritan
|Luke 6:31-36 NASB|
Treat others the same way you want them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Colossians 3:12-15 NRSV
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:12-15 NRSV
1 John 2:9-11 NASB
The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
Revelation 3:5 NASB
He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

Hey Guys, you did a great job with WORLD'S END. I am amazed at your abilities to mine Christian themes out of some of these movies, wow!
Now, I have to call a Podcast Foul on you. How is it you've done almost 150 episodes and covered AT WORLD'S END, but still haven't done HUGO? Are you trying to rip a hole in the Space-Time Continuum or something? I know Michael loves HUGO, so I can only assume this is the result of some vendetta Brenden has. We've heard more quiche jokes over the last 3 years than Christian themes from HUGO- that's just wrong. How about letting bygones be bygones? After all, Michael took one for the team when he did that LION KING episode. And it's on Netflix, so easy to access.
Love the show guys! #muhweeladgimli
