| Languedoc Bistro (downstairs) | Best chef, best overall food. Really hard to get in with a large party (large - more than 2 people.) | Indoor - basement | RAINWATER CLAMS. Best dish on Nantucket. Chicken and Duck Carbonara also great. Steak Frites.
| Galley Beach | Review by Doug Rose: They have a sophisticated menu, an excellent wine list, and pleasant service – as good as any on the island. But what really sets it apart is the spectacular setting right on Nantucket Sound. The dining room is a veranda that’s wide open to the beach, and if the forecast is nice, you can reserve a table outside on the sand. In the busy season, the bar area is crowded with bourgeois singles and Nantucket high society, which can be amusing to watch. It’s a short cab ride from town, and it’s outrageously pricey, but if you’re up for a truly special occasion, you won’t regret this. | Outdoor - on the sand - most beautiful ambiance in ACK | Scallops. Cocktails at a high top in the sand. Caesar Salad, Fluke, Halibut. TINY dishes and $$$ - but really special!
| Cru | On the dock - cocktails and people-watching. Overpriced, but sceney. Fun for a drink before dinner. | Both - bar + outdoor patio | Drinks.
| Boarding House | Review by DR: at the corner of Federal and India Street. We’ve had many nice dinners there, but our most memorable have been when we’ve sat outside under the awning, where we can people watch, and they can envy what we’re having for dinner. The menu is skewing into wild game (venison, etc) which is a little strange - stick to seafood. | Both - bar + outdoor patio
| Afterhouse | Indoor - step down
| Ships Inn (downstairs) | Review by Doug Rose: The small dining rooms and tiny bar are situated in the basement of an historic inn, and while the setting isn’t chic, the food, wine and service are all terrific, and the overall experience is cozy and romantic. It’s not a touristy place, in fact the clientele includes lots of regulars, and so it’s a little bit calmer and quieter than most restaurants in town. Ask for a table in the main dining room, and be ready to relax and enjoy. | Indoor - basement | Chef-caught special of the day - hopefully it's sea bass. Caesar salad. Crabcake. Lime & Garlic Chicken. Duck Boglenese. Tempura lobster and avocado. Fluke.
| Queequegs | Easy spot to grab a Lobster Roll for lunch in town. | Outdoor patio in town
| Sandbar @ Jetties Beach | $1 oysters 3pm - 5pm. Pretty bad service, and lots of kids, but beachfront casual lunch spot at a place you can bike to (which has become a tradition for Emily & Ben - bike to Galley, eat oysters and drink rose.) | Outdoor | Oysters & Lobster Roll - Lobster roll served on crazy buttered texas toast. You will die of carb overload
| Cisco Brewery | Really fun day drinking spot that has tours of their wine/beer and liquor brewery/distillery. Live music, sometimes has a cover. Food trucks. Great for a happy hour or daytime. | Outdoor | Food trucks - Spanky's raw bar for chilled shrimp.
| Straight Wharf | Seafood. Since it’s situated right on the wharf, the bar area can get noisy, but the dining room is quiet, candlelit and lovely. Not quite as memorable as some other settings, but we’ve never been disappointed with the food, and you can ask for a table near the water, which has a view of the docks. | Both | Lobster Clambake
| Ventuno | Review by DR: the ultimate in downtown dining. It’s in the heart of town on Federal Street, in a renovated colonial townhouse with a maze of intimate little dining rooms. The menu offers a nice mix of seafood and Italian, with great appetizers, and a creative cocktail bar (if you like prosecco, try the “Tale of Two Cities”). The clientele tends to be a little bit dressier than most Nantucket restaurants, but the atmosphere is not at all stuffy. Be sure to ask for a downstairs table, away from the kitchen. | Indoor
| Brant Point Grill | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Club Car | Popular classic bar that has just gone under new management. Unsure of what it's like now. | Indoor (Bar)
| Black Eyed Susan | Breakfast spot - fine for brunch. Cash only. | Indoor and maybe a few patio tables
| Sayles - Pickup lobster and shellfish to take home | This place is an absolute logistical nightmare. You'll wait in line forever and they'll ignore you and you'll go through lots of anxiety - but the lobsters are really tasty once you get them home! Authentic. | Pickup or some super casual outdoor tables (have never sat there) | Lobsters
| Met On Main | Breakfast spot primarily - casual dinner spot with backyard patio. Fish & Chips, lobster roll - not necessarily fine dining | Both | Mezze platter
| The Pearl | Highly regarded, outrageously expensive - sit at the bar, cocktails and Hors d'oeuvres | Lobster dish, oysters
| 56 Union | Not a great location, lots of locals. Lobster roll. Open year round | Lobster roll
| Dune | Get a table on the 1st floor.
| Something Natural | On cliff road - sandwich spot with picnic tables. Only need to order half a sandwich and take them to the beach. Avocado cheddar chutney sandwich (go light on chutney.)
| Provisions | Sandwiches | Takeout
| Fresh | in town - small, looks like a liquor store. ODB sandwich - chicken salad with grapes & curry | Takeout
| The Lobster Trap | Beer, lobsters, fish & chips - party spot during the day. Avoid during holiday weekends, but fun. | Both | beer & lobster
| Slip 14 | Can sit on the covered porch with retractable windows - cozy spot. Avoid visiting when it's low tide as it's on the dock... | Both | Lobster Gnocchi, Calamari
| Nantucket Bake Shop | morning pastries. pick up & go. | Takeout | Scones. Blueberry muffins. Donuts.
| Cisco Beach | Good surf, food trucks? no food trucks, but easy walk to the beach | beach
| Company of the Cauldron | Pre-fixe that's gotten a lot of attention - fun for a special occasion, but a little dark and stuffy for an airy beach vacation! | Town
