Overview:
17
Strengths:Notes:
18
Balance when Pass BlockingWhile he could still work on his run blocking footwork and engagement, he has great balance on the edge when pass blocking.
19
Movement FluidityClearly a high level athlete at the position.
20
Hand PositioningHe has quick hands that get where they need to be, and do not get chopped easily. When they do, he resets very quickly.
21
22
Weaknesses:Notes:
23
Gap CreationHe does not quite have the footwork or power to single-handedly create gaps, but his positioning on zone blocks has improved throughout the season.
24
StrengthMost of his lesser reps come from a lack of raw strength as opposed to any issues in technique.
25
Handling Leg DriveIf a strong bull rusher gets inside positioning and drives, Fashanu struggles to reset his anchor.

Game:Takeaways:
29
Iowa (09/23/2023)Very quick hands and use of length. Excellent athlete for the position. Great balance. Maintains inside positioning regardless of pass rush move due to quick hands. Not a people mover, but redirects away from gap well. Elite balance against pass rush. Hands are not easily chopped. Stood up slightly on bull rush. Ridiculous strength and stability. Excellent edge mirroring. Manhandling opposition. Great in run game, exceptional in pass protection. Typically first off the line. Consistent kickstep. Every down consistency makes him elite. Couldn't have performed much better.Top 5 tape.
30
Ohio State (10/21/2023)Great balance on the edge. Uses his length well when pass blocking. Not necessarily a gap creator. Does not always position optimally in the run game. Fluid mover. Inside zone footwork has been suboptimal on multiple plays. Lost balance before attempted pivot. Passes off stunts well. Good lateral recovery. Gets shed in run game too easily. Overextends recovering on inside move. Minor strength concerns. Needs to reset his feet better against bullrushes. Good hand placement. Cannot handle Tuimoloau's long arm. Sustains pass blocks well with good angles and hand positioning, but angles and balance overall are uncharacteristically worse than usual. Just an off game, but not too concerning in the grand scheme of things.Six pressures allowed after allowing only one through his first six games. Weaker tape that exposed his weaknesses, but still a top 10 prospect.
31
Michigan (11/11/2023)Extremely fluid. Great hips, balance, and pivots. Good drive on inside zone rep. Locks up and not easily shed. Still great drive on inside zone. Grip on run blocking reps has improved from earlier in the season. Poor rep on gap run. Very inconsistent run blocker. Inside zone this game has had some plus reps. Excellent mirroring. Pressure stemmed from wrong assignment, not from getting beat on a standard rep. Could afford to gain some strength.Top 5 player with elite upside if he gets significantly stronger, which he is likely to do.

Final Scouting Report:
34
Fashanu is one of the best athletes in the 2024 NFL Draft. His fluidity and movement skills at 6'6, 312lbs are nothing short of astonishing. When pass blocking, he has elite mirroring, sound hand placement, and understands how to gain leverage and stand up edge rushers. Whether coming at him with bend, counters, or straight speed-to-power, Olu reacts instinctively to mitigate the majority of pass rush reps. He is a true top ten talent, and the young left tackle would likely have been a top ten pick had he declared back in 2023.

Despite all of his technique, movement aptitude, and understanding of the position, he still has plenty of room to gain strength. The Ohio State game this last October, where he allowed six of his ten pressures on the season, really opened up the eyes of many viewers. When hit with legitimate power where he cannot gain leverage on his opponent and a hand is locked into his chest, he can be drilled back into the pocket. While the tape was not as bad as most make it out to be, it exposed his primary weakness at this point in his young career. This lack of strength also extends into the run game. He has good drive and decent grip, but is not a gap creator. He has sound run blocking technique on many reps, particularly in zone, but is not consistent when it comes to finishing the rep. He could become a good run blocker with some additional strength, but it is unlikely that he ever becomes truly elite in the run game.

Although the strength differential from college to the NFL is drastic, there is little concern regarding how his game will translate. Technique is king at the position once certain size and athletic thresholds are met, and Fashanu has it in spades. He may never become an elite run blocker with perhaps the smallest hands of any offensive lineman in the entire NFL, but he more than makes up for it in the passing game. The 21-year-old will surely gain strength over his first few years in the league, and has the skill and athleticism to become one of the best pass blocking left tackles in the NFL.
